    He'll never read this, but 16 years ago when I started balding I saw this specific interview and it gave me the confidence to just man up and buzz it all off at the age of 25, as I was also recovering from some major setbacks in my professional life and my self-confidence levels were at an all-time low. Never looked back, and have buzzed it short (never shaved smooth, I want people to know my hair is thinned, it doesn't matter to me and it shouldn't to them) and just imagined Sir Patrick by my side, cheering me on for the first few years. Did way better with women after that, better than I ever had with hair - part of that was just confidence with age, but honestly, I think that hurdle of just accepting the baldness and not worrying about what others would think gave me this baseline level of self assuredness that now I have a beautiful wife of many years, two adorable little girls, and a great profession, and I probably wouldn't have had any of it if it hadn't been for Sir Patrick Stewart and this wonderful interview.
    So thank you, Patrick. I don't have many heroes, but you're most definitely at the top of the list.

      Recently made the same move. I got a haircut in December and went for a neat side parting to look for work, and a friend offhandedly said it was dangerously close to a combover. That was it, that was one thing I vowed I would never resort to, so I shaved it. I've had lots of resistance because I'm 28 and clean bald now (I disliked the stubbly feeling from a number 1 clipper) but I find I'm more confident in myself now and strangely less self conscious of my appearance than when I had to worry about how my head looked, and showering... I could put the kettle on to make a cuppa and have a shower and come back before it's even done lol.

      Going bald is one of the worst things that ever happened to me. I loved my hair and styling it, changing it, making it look right. When I hit my early 20s and my hairline went from pulled back above the eyes but otherwise normal to impossibly thin in the front and dissipating in the back I was devastated. Shaving my head is torturous because of my sensitive scalp and I look ridiculous if I don't do it, I also cut my head when working and get sweat running down all around with no hair. I have accepted it, but I will never be happy and I will never not wish I could change it.

    • @Shindai
      @Shindai 9 років тому +4

      Yucannt Hahvitt Took some time to get used to, I find wearing a bandana helps when exercising and stuff. If you put some skin cream on your scalp to keep the skin soft it'll cut less easily if you get poked. Also don't forget the sunscreen, will help with the sensitivity when you're out :)

    I realised my hair was thinning at 16! but i kept it long till i got to about 18,19 wen i realised i was losing it. At 20 i grew the balls to shave it all of. The bald jokes and comments "how u going to find a girl?" kept on coming. at 22 now all the jokes have died down.I just accepted it, its part of hu I am, Why shud I be ashamed of how I look? there are plenty of people that are affected by diseases, who I am to complain about just lack of hair. One piece of advice for the young and balding, keep it short, dont wear hoodies or hats to conceal it , the more u do that the longer people will take to come to terms with it. All the best bros!

      I commend you for having the balls to shave it off. But you have to admit that SOME
      men have a really weird head shape and cant quite pull off the shaved look.
      Plus you mentioned the word "shame". In my experience, society imposes this shame on us.

    My husband wore a toupee when I met him. He went bald in his early 20s & didn't go outside except to work for 3 years. He was 37 when I met him & still wasn't comfortable with being bald. As far as headpieces go it was very good (& expensive) but eventually I convinced him to get rid of it & shave. He would still far prefer to have hair, but since that's not an option he has learned to deal with his baldness. Whilst I"m sure it must be very difficult for a young man to deal with, if the biggest concern in your life is the loss of your hair then you're a lot luckier than the great majority of the world's population.

      I love the stories about the early days of TNG and how AUSTERE he initially was while other cast members would ham it up. At one point he challenged them about their antics where they said it's just having fun, and his response was "We're not here to have fun"! Apparently, right after that, he began cutting up with the rest of them and turned out to be one of their "worst offenders"! Such joy!

    Like Kiba Fox said - let it go! My late husband was already grey by 17 - imagine the stress he had! However, he wore it like a crown and went on to be a real ladies' man. It's not what is on top of the head that matters, but what is inside that counts for the women who really matter. Confidence is sexier than arrogance, and if you just carry yourself as if you look good.... you will ;-) Trust me on this - I have 40 years on you! Best of luck finding your inner Patrick Stewart ;-)

I lost it when i was in my early twenties and I thought if I shaved off my hair and didn't have a beard I would look like I had cancer or something, but after a little while, it just becomes part of you. Its who you are, doesn't take anything away. Now when I'm at work and some girl is complemented about their hair, I'll just turn around and say " thanks for noticing, I'm trying a new shampoo!!".

    I’ve always had beautiful, thick curly brown hair and it has always been one of my best features. I’m 20 now and my hairline has been receding for about a year (same as my grandfather on my moms side). It destroyed me at first and I fell into a very deep depression that lead to me dropping out of my freshman year of college. Even now, nobody can tell because I wear my hair down in the front and the rest is still very thick, so I can only imagine what Patrick must have gone through. Since then I have come to the terms that I will eventually be skin bald when the time comes, and fortunately I am a pretty handsome guy with a good head shape for it, but I don’t want to be bald or balding during my 20s or even 30s. Hairpieces are a great option for guys like me, and it should totally be normalized. My plan is to start wearing hair systems within the next year, before my hair loss becomes too noticeable, and then rock it until I turn 40 or so, then just go full Dwayne Johnson.

    Thats a good attitude man, and I respect that, and i've always respected people who joke about their baldness. I think it shows a lot of confidence and character, and if you can be a strong enough person to be bald, and say "fuck it im still good looking, I can still get any girl I want", you will approach women, and get turned down, as everyone else does, but that is life. I have a full head of hair, but I can tell it is starting to thin.

    @Jen5en: Actually, having long and much hair is very masculine. Look at Vikings and other old peoples. And men are allowed to have hair, pretty much everywhere. Armpits, chest, pubic area, butt, back,... and those things are considered male. But shaving your head is only considered masculine, cause it's normal that a man loses it after a while. But still both are considered masculine. Only short haired men are kind of affeminate, cause they want to look clean, which is a feminine charateristic

    it all depends on your head's shape. Im loosing my hair and unlike some men I will not look good. Ive never shaved my hair for this exact reason. Im also quite skinny and being bald will make me look as I have cancer.

    Don't need hair to pick up ladies. You guys just need to have a personality better then other guys. Don't let baldness discourage you cause it's very unattractive. Be yourself, make her laugh and feel special and your good to go. If you look at Neil Strauss, he's a pickup artist and he's bald. He's short and skinny but he has a lot of game and confidence!!
