FEUD: Bette and Joan, the first installment of the new FX anthology series from Ryan Murphy, tells the story of the legendary rivalry between Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) during their collaboration on the Academy Award®-nominated thriller What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, and well after the cameras stopped rolling. The series explores how the two women endured ageism, sexism, and misogyny while struggling to hang on to success and fame in the twilight of their careers.
In addition to Academy Award winners Lange and Sarandon, the cast includes Alfred Molina as the film’s director Robert Aldrich, Stanley Tucci as studio titan Jack Warner, Judy Davis as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, Jackie Hoffman as Crawford’s housekeeper Mamacita, and Alison Wright as Aldrich’s assistant Pauline.
Notable guest stars include Dominic Burgess as Crawford and Davis’ co-star Victor Buono, Catherine Zeta-Jones as film star Olivia de Havilland, Sarah Paulson as Geraldine Page, Kathy Bates as Joan Blondell and Kiernan Shipka as B.D., Bette Davis’ daughter.
FEUD: Bette and Joan is created by Ryan Murphy and Jaffe Cohen & Michael Zam. Ryan Murphy serves as Executive Producer along with Executive Producers Dede Gardner of Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, Tim Minear and Alexis Martin Woodall. The series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios.

This show was waaay more emotional than I expected it to be. Took over 5 years to make it to a streamer, but it's here.

Although I'm not a drag queen, after watching this I WANTED to put on a feather boa!! LOL. Dunaway was incredible in the part, but I thought Lange did a wonderful rendition too, especially in portraying Crawford's more vulnerable, insecure side. I haven't had this much fun with my clothes on!
Minh Duong omg!! i had an older gay friend that was an old co worker of mine and when i watched this i was thinking about him because he loved the actual feud situation between joan and bette. we would always talk about this an old Hollywood drama. i miss him.
Dunaway could have played Louella Parsons, that would have been a hoot, and it was a missing element from this show.

It's crazy that both Jessica and Susan were actually 10 years older than Joan and Bette (during the making of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane) but they both look 10 years younger than both Bette and Joan!

You have to remember the actresses of that time didn't get plastic surgery. Also it wasn't no cosmetic procedures going on in the 60s. Nowadays you can get all of those things to make you look longer!

Anybody looking for Lange and Sarandon to look and sound like Crawford and Davis are bound to be disappointed. It's best to watch the miniseries with an open mind. Joan and Bette were both one of a kind that CANNOT be imitated, that's why their aura is still so alive and vibrant. I can only hope Lange and Sarandon capture the SPIRIT and MANNERISMS of Crawford and Davis, tho from previews so far it seems Lange is doing a better job than Sarandon. It would be a daunting task for anyone to play Bette Davis, but Lange seems to have succeeded in capturing the spirit of Joan Crawford.

I never, ever pay to see anything. But in this case, I popped for it, and was pleasantly rewarded with a truly entertaining bit of film fluff. I LOVED IT. Great performances, great timing, great casting, great script, great direction. Just put your troubles down for a moment and have fun... this will be a very "fabulous" ride.
this show is absolutely the best thing out right now, in my opinion. I love Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis, and Jessica Lange is really making me hate Joan Crawford, so I guess she is doing a fantastic job too

I wasn't thrilled with Susan Sarandon's performance and the fact that she severely underplayed Bette's accent. Sarandon, at least in the first episode, was playing the role on the surface and Jessica's acting had more depth and a thoughtfulness quality to it. However, something you can't take away from Susan is her resemblance to Bette. The shot of her recreating the scene from All About Eve as she comes down the staircase is an eery resemblance. Jessica's look is close enough for Joan.
Can't wait! Although i think Catherine was miscast as Olivia de Havilland. She's too sultry and sexy for the role.
She reminds me more of Olivia's sister Joan Fontain.

Loved it ! Jessica and Susan bring just enough to give you the essence of Bette and Joan. Judy Davis was brilliant as was Jackie Hoffman. I think CZJ was miscast, her face never moved. And I doubt Jack Warner had a body like Stanley Tucci !
I love old Hollywood, those 2 were real broads. I hope this brings a resurgence into old Hollywood and we will see more shows like this.

I remember watching the original movie on t.v. back in the 80's. It was a good movie and Davis was excellent. Now, this remake looks really well done and they casted great as they look like Davis and Crawford. I do have to say I never knew that they hated each other!

Both Joan & (especially) Bette had a distinctive way of talking and moving. Couldn't these 2 actresses at least ATTEMPTED to talk and move like them???

I was really disappointed. Susan Sarandon was unable to capture Bette Davis.
She isn't a very good impressionist. I could tell from the ads she was completely unable to imitate Betty.
I think the casting SUCKS IMHO.
I think Jessica is a stronger actress (in general) than Susan. That said, I think she's barely believable as Joan(face shape is all wrong, looks a bit too old, where as Susan looks too young). They both sound like they're *pretending* to be this icons-not delivering even half way. For instance Bette had extremely distinctive mannerisms-all of which are unseen on these ads/clips/promos on YT. I almost wonder if this was rushed out too soon, or the budget would not allow the time required to truly study the classic actresses *properly*. Both desperately need vocal coaches, and wayyy more time practicing movements, tone of voice, inflection, etc.
At first glance, I thought Susan looked way too young to be Bette at the time of this movie. I almost wonder if she would not agree to making her face look older(prosthetics,latex, etc). Or, maybe it was a foolish decision by the director....I almost feel like I'm watching b-movie actresses play Bette and Joan, and since these are established actresses, that feels really disconcerting...

Only complaint is that Sarandon kept her brown eyes. Bette's must be in a shade of blue as cold as her soul.
Joan Crawford had blue eyes as well... but small differences like eye color aren't gonna stop this from being great.
While I agree that "small differences like eye color" aren't going to prevent this from being a phenomenal show, such details shouldn't necessarily be overlooked when portraying real-life people who actually existed. Joan and Bette both had these steely blue gazes which is one of the trademark things that made them such popular actresses then and icons now. Jessica's features are a far cry from Joan's as it is, so not giving her the right eye color doesn't help matters at all.
Saw something with Susan Sarandon about 20 years ago and thought she should play Bette in a movie about her life or something. Beautiful resemblance!

Just watched the first episode...loved it! Susan Sarandon playing Bette Davis was like Faye Dunnaway playing Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest..makeup is absolutely perfect!

I can't understand why the makeup artist for this film did not age Susan's face more. It could have easily been done with a tiny bit of latex-and it would have made things a whole lot more believable.

i know that in this clip they say joan crawford was the most beautiful woman in the world but i have seen real clips on her and while i dont think she was ugly and i think she had her own type of beautiful i wouldnt call her the most beautiful in the world cause in the clips her eyes look too scary to be called that and someones eyes can tell u alot about a person most of the time.
Olivia is still alive..close to 100 and lives in Paris..she was very close in age to joan..so Im not sure why Catherine..being so much younger than the leads..was cast
The mini-series has Bette just picking her Baby Jane costume off a rack when in reality , her clothes were very much designed for the production EVEN WINNING an OSCAR for BEST BLACK and WHITE COSTUMES

I think that sarandon GETS Davis, but Lange gives Crawford more pathos, humanity, and emotional richness than she had. Crawford's emotional immaturity and fears were far greater than Lange's performance suggests. Crawford was a full-fledged narcissist who was in survival mode every minute. She didn't have the emotional depth or reserves that Lange's performance suggests. She was a child in a woman's body, not a misunderstood artiste. She was performing every moment of her life and never had the genuine moments of human interaction shown in this series.
"Bitch and Bitchier" would be a more a appropriate title I think.

It adheres, factwise, with every book I've read on Davis or Crawford. Only fresh angle: Crawford's brother Hal blackmailing her over the long-alleged smoker Joan's said to have made in pre-fame days. Most rumors have that one bought up by L.B. Mayer and destroyed or used as bargaining chip.
Sarandon and Lange are nothing short of brilliant breathing life into Bette and Joan while avoiding easy caricatures. 18 Emmy nominations don't go to junk.

I realize that cigarettes, back then, ruined every minute of every day, for just about everybody. But honestly, do we have to see so much of them in modern productions? This sort of thing is why I don't pay for movies, and don't pay for TV. Why PAY, to have cigarettes shoved at us?
