I love deduction based games and picked up the deluxe version of this on the KS. Personally, I think the game punishes you too harshly for incorrect guesses since many times you have unperfect information and most times it takes a lot of clues to get the hard ones better than 50/50. Additionally, at some point in the game its basically not viable to have an easy card in your hand. Also, it sucks to try to answer more whims only to have the queens speed increase anyways, plus you still have to fill all the spots in the garden. (Just means your both sprinting sooner when answering more whims). I also haven't gotten to the other parts of the game with the keys and card packs etc. because getting defeated like that leaves a sour taste in most players mouths and don't want to play for another hour to lose it on maybe the first mistake. I love the game though and the concept, i just think the rules (and maybe board) need more refinement in a second edition.
Hey Eddie - Thanks for watching!! I agree, this one is definitely for folks who find some degree of enjoyment in deduction, bookkeeping and harsh consequences for inefficient play (an admittedly tall order), and even then it can feel like everything comes down to a flip of the coin. We looked back at our game and had fun identifying some ways to improve the efficiency or our tile placement and clues, which was an interesting exercise, but is absolutely (and understandably) not an exercise many groups are going to want to go through after having just slogged through to a loss. Because it's a really tough game, some groups might even benefit from ignoring the concept of winning the game at first and instead using the score tracker as just that: "We got to 20 this game, let's try for higher next game." Just a few thoughts, although I know sometimes that "feel bad" switch gets flipped and it's tough to get the game back to the table. I hope you get to try again soon and dig into the extras. Cheers! -Andy
It's a shame that Glenn's clues were marked down incorrectly as it would have been confirmed waaaaay sooner (and less moves for the queen as well *incorrect guesses*) but good job for a beginner run all in all :D
Ian was just telling me about this one on Saturday. Looks like a lot of fun! I think I would have immediately played again, haha. Gotta get that win!
Yeah, if we hadn't already been like an hour over our scheduled time on filming, we would totally have gone for another round 😅
I totally get that! I know all about long videos haha 😱
