    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  2 роки тому

      Hey Clara yes this mix should do great but I would use building sand for building it will be much nicer so same 3 to 1 but with building sand as the aggregate, if you add gravel you will be making concrete not good for putting bricks of flag stones down but if you wanted to make a step out of that as in build a frame then put concrte it would be good so this is a video of us making that and ratios ect ua-cam.com/video/s8-8Hoa9-0o/v-deo.html good to watch so you can see differences :)

    Nice one Mac! Ive got some Render around my door frame and its started to crack just with imoact with door slamming (worse lately and little bits have fallen off) but it's all solid except for that little patch...the render finish is quite gritty but smooth (K rend ?) and its a pink colour...can i use this ratio to fill the gap after I dig out the loose stuff? Obv there would be a colour difference but I'd paint with a white or so masonary paint. Aswell mate theres silicone bead around the door pvc trim that joins to broken render, ... Am I best to pick the silicone off, render with above mix ratio, paint, then silicone bead the PVC area? Thanks mate...Aidan.

    nice thickness :-) I like how you went easy on the water at the end :-D I have a habit of adding to much at the last min and never getting the mixture right after that :-p

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  8 років тому +1

      +BattonFive even a brush full of water at a time could make this mix perfect close to the end never good having to add more sand and cement then you end up with waste also cement tends to get wetter the more you move it about anyway especially in a mixer :)

    • @battonfive
      @battonfive 8 років тому +1

      macplastering I didn't know that :-) that it gets wetter when you are moving it, it sounds like the weight of the sand and cement are separating themselves when being moved :-D
      yeah adding extra sand and cement to the mix if its to watery kills me at 1:10 scale, I would literally rather do a fresh batch :-D
      one of the very few perks of doing it small, you can afford a bit of waste as its usually the size of your finger :-) the rest though, few perks indeed :-D

    • @macplastering

      macplastering Hi thanks. Inside. There's a gap between flat edge of concrete under the window sill (5-7mm). The blown plaster/render is 5-9mm (depth varies). Just to make things easier, there's a crack vertically (2-3mm wide) which goes up to the top of wall under the ledge. Going to put some gripfill in the gap between ledge and top of wall in patches prior to sand/cement. Stiff peaks in sand cement ok - smooth to apply in a thin layer? Thanks again.

      Sounds like it is a job for sand and cement for sure buddy instead of grip fill i would stry get some mesh over the crack then cement it clean edges back 3 mm then skimm next day ( mabe run a brush over cement for a key for skim to bond to )

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  2 роки тому

      Hi Ros mate so the short answer is how i was taught what other plasterers i know do and what has worked well for me the last 20 plus years now that been said i have done other mixes that worked well as had to finish with 5 to 1 before due to how any coats needed, again it could be down to the sand in the area our sand is nicely graded and gritty so possibly where you are the sand is more silt which would be best to go a weaker mix then for sure, if in doubt of the the guy doing the job jut asked to see older jobs, again no reason why his shouldn't work, funny many guys seem to think a they do 4 to 1 3 to 1 1st coats wrong but a general mix on the cement itself say 3 to 1 thanks for watching and good luck my friend

      @@rich00cap Dryer concrete and renders should result in stronger as they wont shrink as much when the water is drying out from them but like you found it can be hard to bond if not at a nice consistency , the concrete I made on the other video we have is nice and wet but if you look when I trowel n in the wheel barrow it kinda holds its shape and stands up some I think a mix like that would work great for stetting the bricks and also set real strong in a few days time, oly thing is if you need to point them you would need a mix like the on here in the bucket or a even dryer one so it would stain the brick and compress it in with a jointing tool , thats is if it has joints or you even wish to fill them if it dose have joints :) Thanks for watching wishing you the best of luck this time round mate :)

Keep the newly constructed pond filled for a week, then drain and refill." So i think if you needed to repair it you might need to move the fish for a week or so if you have some where you can keep them for a week it will take a day or so for you to repair then let it dry a day or 2 then fill for a week and drain and refill , I hope this is useful and helps just make sure before you do the repair you give the area a good clean and dry to help the new cement bond will to it
