Why do you think that there was so many coins in this area? Did some sort of event take place here,..or was there some sort of market area set up here centuries ago?

That would be so cool!! Here I want to get a coin I remember finding in a jar of pennies that my great aunt gave me. I had it in my jewelry box and it went missing. Found out my ex took it and used it to buy something.
It was a small penny, smaller than a CDN/US penny, same colour as them but it was called a half penny.
Such a cool video!! Thx guys!!🤙🏻☺️🐬

Hello.. those tiny coins you found are called... Lepta.. in the bible Jesus referred to the widow who drop two small coins into the treasure chest.
Those were the smallest coins used at that time.
You couldn't even buy one sparrow to feed yourself, they had very little value

01:46 Constantine I, by the combination of style portrait and approx. diameter, I'd say about 310 from western mint (could be London, Trier, Lyons...), reverse has been intentionally filed smooth.
03:56 most probably also Constantine I (by the hooked shape of the nose), GLORIA EXERCITVS (single standard) variety, struck AD 336-342 (and for Constantine I, 336-37 only). Mintmark is off-flan.
10:14 Constantine II as Caesar, BEATA TRANQVILLITAS type, Lyons, first officina (PLG in ex), issue of AD 321 (with C- R controls in rev. field), much scarcer than the previous one.
13:45 "Barbarous radiate", British, imitating Tetricus I, Gallic usurper, AD 271-74 these imitations are supposed to have been struck a bit later (late 270s - early 280s)
14:45 either Valentinian I or Valens, less likely one of Valentinian's sons, but the obv inscription is worn out. I cannot see the mintmark but seems legible.
16:38 another British "Barbarous radiate" of approx. same age and type as before.
Hope this was useful. Great video! Keep doing this great job, rescuing all these coins, every little one is important!

@@BondiTreasureHunter Hello my friend it is I who am grateful to you metal-detectorists that bring so many wonderful coins above the surface for us to study and collect. Unfortunately most other countries are not so open-minded in this subject as you are in the UK, they have even forbidden metal detectors, they are so stupid.

@@Numischannel Yes that is frustrating that the history is being destroyed by the plough or rotting away. It's such a fantastic hobby and a great way to learn more about history.

    • @Numischannel
      @Numischannel 3 роки тому +1

@@BondiTreasureHunter Yes, I have a friend who is a metal detectorist in "some Eastern European country", and whom I help identifying his finds, and he's got a channel here in youtube. I also comment his finds in my channel, but he asked me to keep his name undisclosed. He does exactly what you do, I never saw him trespassing any archaeological site nor anything, just private fields with no ruins. And in Italy, a country I know very well, if they find coins ploughing in their fields, many farmers would rather sink them in the lake or in the Sea, to avoid bureaucracy and even the closure of their fields for undeterminated time (and loss of their crops).

Well Leigh you've brightened my morning again. I've got hayfever and as usual haven't slept much due to pain, sorry had to tell you this to give you a picture of how I'm feeling at 5.30am. It never ceases to amaze me the abundance and quality of the coins that people find. I visualise the scenes back to the Roman occupation and think "damn I've dropped my money, I'll just have to starve today". I love the chunky little dog, at one point he started digging behind you and I thought he'd been trained to find human bones 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks so much for the excitement and sheer joy of your treasure hunts. Would you include information on need for permits and permission from property owners so that people aren't inspired to go out onto historic properties to 'treasure hunt' on their own? Too many sites are being looted. Also, could you also share that finds must be reported to authorities--especially gold finds? Thanks.

You choose the place YOU HOPE is NOT a historic place if yes bb permit for that place and IF you get a permit for a place you need to call them, tell them when and where to search and 2 people is beside you looking you for searching with the detector at the place is suppose not a historic place. There are UA-camrs who collect vintage shotgun shell headstamp. I found one in the field next to our house that the manufacturer stopped making in 1934. I found it six inches in the ground, and when I picked it up it was as if the hunter had dropped it, and I had bent down to pick it up for him.
If you start doing closeups of your finds, include.these other artifacts in addition to the coins. As cool as coins are, the diversity of your finds will appeal to diverse viewers!
