- It was my first time properly celebrating Pride in the Netherlands! I noticed some differences between how it's done in the US vs the Netherlands, which I share here. Also just a vlog on a weekend in the Netherlands and restaurants in Amsterdam.

I like to share my experiences of an American expat in the Netherlands. I describe both the unique and everyday aspects of Dutch culture, and life in Holland while enjoying every bit of it!

Hi Ava! About the chocolate chips. Just buy a bar of good dark chocolate and 'hack' (lever action) that to pieces with a chef's knive.
So glad you feel so at home here in the Netherlands, you have a lot to be proud of miss. From my end you look like a sweet, well rounded lady.
Hope you had a great day celebrating Pride. 🏳️🌈
I think the best shot you have at chocolate chips is to go to the makro or hanos. you can buy in bulk there which does make it cheaper. I do think there are special melting chocolate drops for melting chocolate and drops for in baking like you see in cookies so you might want to pay attention to that
also happy pride
Try "chocolade vlokken" available in every supermarket and cheaper. Used for on bread and very easy to use for other means.
Always wait until it’s in de Bonus, like this week. Buy enough until the next bonus.
@@palantir135 hey, we have the same saying in my house! only with my grilfriend it must be Nutella;)
@@Bosdavid en zijn ook meer suiker dan chocolade.. voor te bakken gewoon "chocolate drops" kopen. heerlijke zelfgemaakte chocolate chip cookies maken we dan met melk, witte en karamel drops.
@@jordycorvers7465 for me both.
The boat parade is pretty amazing!
Happy pride month to everyone!
Hi Ava, love your show. Have looked for the chips at Jac Bostelaar on the Steenweg?
Happy Pride🏳️🌈 month Ava and girlfriend hope that both of you had a great day that day?
Great video btw keep it up👍🏻
Thanks and we did indeed have a nice day 😊
Lidl sometimes has Chocolate chip cookies from brand mcennedie OR something. but is only like 2 Times a year. they are 3 OR 4 for about 1.60 euro, and they are softbaked.
About the chocolate; Don't look in supermarkets. Callebaut Bakvaste chocolade Chunks come in bigger packages, better taste and better price.
Don't miss the Amsterdam Canal Parade coming Aug 6!
So, you didn't take down the flag the same day. It's so nice to see it reflected during your commentary section. Was that showing done on purpose (very cleverly and subtly done!) or a coincidence? Yes, it's great to celebrate who you are in a place where it used to be celebrated to beat who they are.
I always love your vlogs Eva.. it always makes me happy.. Keep it up!!! Happy Pride 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Awww, I love hearing that 😊💜
Hi Ava! Nice video on you "Dutch Pride Day"... which actually slipped my attention this year completely...
The Georgian food looked delicious, I hope you enjoyed it. Managed to find some shoes yet?
Supermarket chain Jumbo has verrry cheap chocolate chips. I am hooked on them!
'show them the boat, babe! the boat!' lol :) I did not expect it to be a consultancy boat!
Haha, I did only see that afterwards...
Have you been to Pride Amsterdam? They also have a boat parade, and it is even more spectacular.
Nice video Eva/Ava.
We generally won't have the American version of chocolate drops in the Netherlands because we are used to using real chocolate instead of the fake one the US uses. Also a lot of US foods will be forbidden by the European food laws.
It wasn’t rain, it was a huge huge amount of water, maybe starting to build an ark 😂😂 so obviously your phone can’t handle that.
And yes it’s great that pride was during this holidays. Great to see you again
@Ava Do you have an opinion on the taste of the chocolate in the US? I understand Europeans generally don't like the taste because of the butyric acid added. To Europeans it apparently tastes a bit like vomit. I'm asking because of the American chocolate chips you brought back. Does it also has this butyric acid added?
Bij de notenshop en bol zijn de chocolade bak pastilles te bestellen.
Hey Ava, Could you please share the name of the Georgian restaurant? I have been looking for a Georgian Restaurant and also to find a decent restaurant to replace my favorite Centras Spanish food in Amsterdam that closed a few years ago after more than 30 years. I loved that restaurant soooo much. And I love Georgian food! And I can not find a decent Georgian restaurant in my neighborhood in Antwerpen.
Hi Hans, the place we went to was called Batoni Khinkali!
@@DutchAmericano Just found it. There are only 2 in NL! And 1 in B ! Thanks anyways! BTW: i love it that the Utrecht Pride parade does not hand out junk that goes to waste anyways 👍😀
@@Dutchbelg3 Waar is die 2e in NL dan? Ik kan alleen een vestiging vlakbij Vondelpark vinden,

Happy Pride Ava
Your cameralady does not take directions very well. Nevertheless a nice and well edited video again. Thank you, your videos always make me happy 😊
Throwing things to the people is ending up in the canals. That's probably the reason not doing it. When the Tour de France (2010) and the Giro d'Italia (2015) cycling tours started in Utrecht there was a line of cars/trucks driving ahead of the professional cyclists and they throw stuff at the people. In September the Spanish Vuelta starts in Utrecht and then they will throw stuff too.
Wow alle 3 grote rondes starten in utrecht hier in den haag start niks
Albert Heijn has great self made chocolate or white chocolate macademia nut cookies. They're big and will fill you up completely, for 2 euro.
The Lidl has great chocolate chip cookies as far as I know.
Happy Pride!!!
So we have the floats that actually float?
Food looks amazing...
Actually, it isn't just day 1 and day 2 of Easter. Easter is supposed to last 50 days and Pentecost marks the end of the 50 day Easter holiday.
Chocolate chip cookies expensive?? They are like 99ct. And yes i live in the Netherlands myself, my supermarket (Albert Heijn) sells em for 99ct.
Great video👏👏👏
Omg I’m moving to Utrecht Netherlands 🇳🇱 from South Africa 🇿🇦
Gelukkig trots! (I have no idea if it's expressed that way?)
You would keep the 'pride' because trots doesn't have a correlation with the lgbtqia in any way. You'd say 'gelukkige pride!'
Throwing things: some years ago, I participated in the Canal Parade in Amsterdam, on a political boat. I may still have one or two of the necklaces of rainbow-colored beads thrown at us. Unfortunately, most things thrown at us were cats and dogs - I mean: we got soaking rained.
The Parade is not my (straight) thing, but I'm very glad it exists here: showing who you are and being cheered for it.
I'm trying to remember the Dutch comedian (Dolf Jansen?) who imagined that at least the male participants would look forward to going to Hell in an afterlife: hot enough to take your clothes off and have a party.
(I would rather join them than be in the cloud - with all these files (including mine).)
You can buy a flag pole and a socket you can screw onto the outside wall underneath a window or so for easy reach at the *W. Pijper tool store at Oudegracht 120* (roughly opposite to the HEMA. ) Every house in the Netherlands had such an easy reachable socket till some forty years ago. And most Dutch people used them to celebrate things like bevrijdingsdag and Koningsdag.
Happy pride!
When a friend of me came out of the closet. The day before i was very worried cause i called him and he told me he was busy and will speak to me about it later, i was just worried. When i saw him the next day he told me he was gay, i was like dude is that it...
Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada.
If you want merchandise thrown at you, then the Vuelta (19, 20, 21 of august) might be your thing.
I know I sound extremely Dutch by saying this: I usually just use hagelslag as chocolade chips XD
Happy Pride Month indeed. Luxury we can embrace this as we love to do the way we want to do 🏳️🌈🌈..
And around 4:00 ofcourse your girlfriend is focusing on you 😍 instead of the boats. 😁
Have a great pride time girls! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈💥💥
Happy pride month to me!
Do you live in Utrecht? I would like to cook and invite you guys; I can make the best Falafel in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Albert hein heeft chocolate chip koekjes voor ongeveer 1 euro
Wat is het verschil tussen hoe de publieke reageerd sorry geen 2de sinterklaas chips gewoon bij supermarkt of via internet
I wonder about the US quality of chocolate. Less consumer protection reduced quality.
Dutch trick: buy dark chocolate and use a Dutch cheese cutter, kaasschaaf.
Psychology at work. You can't get to the other side with canals as well, unless you walk a detour to a bridge. Just like in street parades..... sigh. And chocolate chips you can make yourself way cheaper. Buy a bar of choclate and scrub it on a cheese/vegetable scrubber. Way cheaper! That is how Dutchies do it and that is why it is not sold ready made here.
Hanos: chocoladedips
Ava, I love you🏳️🌈❤️🔥❣️
0:15: It reminds me a bit about this video: ua-cam.com/video/1K1vpU8vzRs/v-deo.html
wait you just found out the whole lgbt parade in the US is just about capitalism? who would have thought.
Haha. Let the booze flooooow.
😂
You are beautiful!
I'm anti-religion, but i'm pro-days-off.
I don't care if someone is gay, straight, bi, or whatever. I do find it strange to celebrate a preference. Why not a straight, bi, or whatever parade? Isn't this kind of discriminatory?
All people are different and yet all people are people.
Bi is included in pride.
The reason pride is a thing but straight celebration isnt is because historically (and in some way still) LGBT+ communities have been shamed for their orientation which is why they celebrate it like this. Now some people (who arent straight up homophobic) dont like it because of a multitude of reasons and there are some valid points to be made. But its not that weird we dont celebrate straight pride. Maybe we will one day when true equality is there. Or maybe we wont celebrate any orientation. But for now at least the concept makes sense :)
@@mistrants2745 Live your life and love it!
Pride is all about celebrating a minority group to emphasize they deserve all the same happiness and rights in life as everybody else. It's not to set them apart but to really just celebrate their existence. And remember this: society is judged by the way it treats its minorities. So of course pride is not about straight people because they are the majority and always automatically had their rights purely from cultural convention. Equality among all people can only come from recognizing our differences. That is exactly what pride does.
Because heterosexuals aren't being discriminated against because of the fact they like someone of the opposite sex. No heterosexual child will be abandoned by his or her family because it is indeed heterosexual. A heterosexual couple won't be called at, won't be whistled at or won't be physically attacked because they show public displays of affection. A heterosexual couple won't be bullied out of a neighbourhood by their neighbours because they are heterosexual. Heterosexuality is the norm, it is cultural law even. Heterosexuals don't need a pride, they aren't struggling in society because of their heterosexual identity. A large part of heterosexual children aren't fighting with themselves when they realise they are indeed heterosexuals. Heterosexuals don't grow up feeling ashamed about their heterosexual identity. Heterosexuals being jealous of a pride parade where LGBTQ+ people celebrate their identity is ridiculous. A heterosexual pride isn't necessary. Heterosexuals aren't marginalised world wide. Heterosexuals don't kill themselves because they don't see a way how to live a free and happy life as a heterosexual. The pride is for everyone accept for the heterosexuals. Heterosexuals are invited though, to also celebrate everyone else, to celebrate together with all the LGBTQ+. To be real allies. Pride isn't about celebrating being heterosexual though. You don't need it. It is heterosexual pride every day, at every festival or celebration. If the norm was: equality for all and all people are people and all people are different, then indeed a pride wouldn't be necessary. Unfortunately many LGBTQ+ people are still victims of society. And yes also here in The Netherlands. Tell me when you last saw a gay couple hold hands, showing affection to each other, kissing each other intimately in public. Outside of pride you hardly see it. Not because they aren't around. They are censoring themselves. Because they get pestered by heterosexuals in public, when they do this. While everyday, multiple times per day you see heterosexuals showing public displays of affection. So no, straight pride isn't needed. And it is not strange at all to celebrate a gender or sexual identity. You are wrong also calling it a preference. It is not a preference. It is who people are. It is in their DNA. My advise is to go celebrate together with LGBTQ+ people at as many prides as possible. Get to know many different people. And learn. Learn about the difference between a preference and an identity. Learn about the dire situations many LGBTQ+ people are in, world wide. Learn about the political threats they are still under. How they get killed, imprisoned, abused and discriminated against. Pride is fun in Utrecht and also in Amsterdam. It should probably become much more political so that clueless people don't make clueless remarks.
Is a football celebration discriminatory against non-fans? Is kings day discriminatory against republicans? Is Chrismas discriminatory against Muslims, Hindu's and atheists? A wedding discriminating singles? There's a group, there's a party, you can join in and enjoy, or you can ignore. What else do you need?
You can get water borne diseases jumping into the canals ? Famous actress got a bad disease ……
Audrey Hepburn suffered her whole life
hi! i found you by searching pride. i'm asexual and genderqueer looking for fellow queers to do content for pride month. would you be interested in doing a collab with me on that topic?
Wow what eyebrows
Just make a statement and go to that wedding on something else than shoes, for example wear slippers or flip flops. Put on some wellies while you're at it. Say to your self, I'm gay, I can wear whatever the hell I want. btw. I don't like shopping either...and weddings ugh!. You say that the roads are empty as there's a boat parade. What about the people watching those boats. They're standing on the frigging road.
You wear something nice to a wedding because OTHER people are getting married and they probably spent a lot of money on that wedding. Not everything is about YOU. I don’t like ties either but I will wear one for a wedding (or funeral for that matter). And I can’t stretch this enough you don’t make statements on someone else’s wedding, it’s their day not yours
its june not pride month
are you on Instagram?
Was there any “ Free the n1pple” activists ??
