I agree. I tried the Trailshot for the last two years (four solo backpacking trips) and am giving up on it. Going to the Squeeze.
I made a couple of mods to make it more user friendly, including adding a short tube on the spout end so that you don't have to aim the water and using a water bag for a source, but these didn't make using it worthwhile in the end.
Over time, and far short of the 2,000 liter max, I found the flow rate to decrease, even with regular cleaning and using clear water sources.
Finally, I think MSR developed this for use by climbers with massive forearm strength, not for desk jockeys such as myself.
I'm keeping it around to try a passive gravity flow setup next year.

That's hilarious. I am a climber and have no issues with pressing out a litre per minute. But I borrowed it to a friend and they struggled to get anything at all. I have modded mine with a short tube that connects to my bladder. Way easier than trying to aim into a bottle

I use this and think it's awesome! I fly fish in the Smokies, and never take a water bottle with me. When I get thirsty, I just sit on a rock and drink. It has it's purpose.

Exactly! I think how you use it is exactly how it’s intended to be used (btw I’m super jealous you fly fish in the smokies, I need to do that too)

Look at that poor flow rate from the start of the video. Mine does the same thing after about the first use. Usually it works great on the first filter session of a trip, then it's all downhill from there. I'd agree with Tim it's not real viable for backpacking. You basically have to submerge the body of the filter while squeezing it to fill the bulb to get 90% of the promised flow rate, which is just asking for cross contamination.

Yea, I guess I don't really see the advantage over other choices. I like my sawyer for backpacking. If I wanted a fast easy light less stuff system for trail running I would get a Katadyn befree, I don't see the advantage of the MSR over the befree for that use. I'm not a big fan of the Katadyn befree as a backpacking filter, but for trail running I think it faster, smaller and easier then the MSR.

I don't understand why everyone who cuts a water bottle for a scoop keeps the cap side? It's like sintax did it and everyone followed.

I would choose the BeFree over the Trailshot.

My TRAILSHOT would not work at all after the 3rd go on a bike packing trip. Followed all the instructions on cleaning find out the filter can shit itself in cold weather like 0C got to .8c but unit was in my bag but after that it wouldn't work. Has been over 3 months now thatvis was returned and I still don't have it back or anything from TRAILSHOT. Looks like this unit has let a lot of people down which you can t have when you need water. MSR service is crap as well. Never again!!

Dude in the blue looks like he might have had just a little bit too much weed and seems worried. I am not saying he smokes weed, but just maybe he like weed, idk.

What a ridiculous filter. Katadyn befree the best, even better than sawyer
