My beloved Nichelle Nichols “Lieutenant Uhura” of Star Trek has passed away. As a child growing up in the 1960s this iconic woman inspired me. In fact, I thought of my mother when she watching her. She later worked for NASA inducting women into NASA. After the first season of Star Trek in 1966 she was preparing to leave the show when Dr. Martin Luther King advised her to stay indicating that there were very few African-Americans on TV that predicting African Americans in the future in a positive role. What a powerful woman she will be truly missed.. Long live your legacy!

I had a crush on Uhura. I just watched a 2018 interview where she revealed that she and Gene Roddenberry were in a romantic relationship.
How a racist security guard at the studio wouldn't let her through the gate and how the men in the mail room stopped her one day to notify her that racists studio executives weren't allowing them to give her all of her fan mail.
    She went through so much.
Rest In Power 👑🌠☮ Nichelle Nichols 🙏🏾💐.🌌

I was a Star Trek baby, being a toddler when it was first run. I saw Uhura as someone complected like me, doing the important task of keeping the communications channels open, optimizing the flow of information. She was also a leader, and a team player simultaneously. She knew how her equipment worked, could troubleshoot and repair it when needed.
Spock did science, computer troubleshooting, repair, was a leader and a team player.
Because of these 2 characters, I worked in the telecommunications industry, troubleshooting the equipment and the network. I have had a career spanning over 30 years, inspired by Star Trek.
I owe my thanks to Nichelle and everyone involved in the success of that show and its vision.

I grew up admiring and having a crush on her - being young I had not learnt to be afraid of people whose skin colour was different to mine - and thanks in part to Lt. Uhura - I never have.
Sail the stars and explore the unkown dimensions of the Universe you beautiful, elegant lady.
    Rest in peace Nichelle.

I'm so glad she stayed on Star Trek. I loved her contribution to the show. My Christian faith and my parents' appreciation of all cultures and races predisposed me to accept Gene's vision of a society lacking prejudice and injustice. I definitely was, and am, a Trekkie.

Madam Nichelle Nicholls during the time you were reaching towards new stratospheric planes, there again were not many women of color on television. Yet when Star Trek's weekly showing came up it was awesome to see a mixed collection of beautiful people who could work, travel, live, interact, and strive throughout the difficulties that the dynamics of space can bring. Your optimistic mindset, and engineering skills were adamantly admired by myself. Though I couldn't get past calculus.
Miss Nicholls, Lt., Uhura deepest condolences, I hope that you've found peace. What a beautiful lady. To keep your memories vivid I'll watch the episodes of Star Trek. Until then Aye-aye,
    Lt. Uhura.🌹🤘

Was saddened to hear of the passing of Nichelle Nichols. Even she had no idea of what impact she was having while making Star Trek all those years ago. Until Martin Luther King convinced her to stay, and what an amazing character she created in Lt. Uhura. Really something special. Iconic and memorable. May you go where no one has gone before.
    RIP Nichelle.

I was very young watching Star Trek in syndication in the 70's. In the bay area we were partially insulated from racism. Ohurah was beautiful and cool. My mother was very progressive with women's issues and I saw the character as part of the cool Star Trek show. She is beautiful, inside and out, still. What a great show glad to hear her experience, she is a true icon now. As I grew up I too realized what Gene Roddenberry was doing. I will always love him for his beautiful vision. Though I will always love Star Trek, I am not much of "Trekie" in the truest sense.

She was also fantastic in her brief run as the late Kristoff St. Johns mother on the CBS soap "The Young and the Restless" her performance was Emmy worthy and she was definetly a ground breaker as "Uhura" on Star Trek, one of the few times back then that there were people of color on a major network TV show and she was a beauty and still is..

I say thank you to her for those three seasons at Desilu Studios... all her work has been with me every decade since then and will be, beyond now... feel as though I have lost a long time friend and am feeling sorry for myself; i am....But fan that I am ...I imagine the Enterprise is out there, somewhere waiting at the edge of the universe for all her crew to find there way back to her... Gene Roddenberry waiting to greet them all to take them to where ever they most wanted to go but may have never made it in this life... and as they beam up and materialize on the transporter pad they are as young and vibrant as they were in those days in the 60s... a last gift to them for being there for us... we will always love you all.

Anyone follows surely knows the Great work he did and The unsung accolades he should have! For if we grew to a future that he saw her mankind, we surely would not be in this spot we are today. I personally thought his influence would change the world much more than it did. But unfortunately his wisdom got put into a box what's on the side wow humans still chase the dollar instead of the dream!

I admired her because of Trek. I regarded her very highly for years until I heard her talk politically. The way she talks about Martin Luther King is inspiring and I guess I expected more from her. So, for years I felt disappointed in her. Now, hearing this video I see why she is so personable. I wish all actors and actresses did not talk about politics because I really do enjoy so many of their expertise in acting. I'm all for a black president, but one that unites us instead of dividing us. She is one of those Actresses that never got the starring role she deserved. Granted, through ST I love her and enjoy her, but she also should have had a shinning career in other venues as well. She never got that role that woul push her into mega stardom.
This is also so very important with all the Gene bashing that is being done by his son, Paramount, and Star Trek management itself. She is giving you some small window into what Star Trek was before the greed in ST today. I may disagree with her politically, but I love her. I am so thankful that ST gave her the opportunity to impact so many people in a positive way. You do not hear modern day Trek fans (they are not Trekkies or Trekkers) talk about ST, the characters, nor the show like this. Trekkies and Trekkers know what she is talking about and respect Gene as well as the actors. ST is more than a vision, it is a life all its own created by these people and taken up by the fans. You do not see the knowledge and dedication in modern day fans. They talk about what is common such as Creations being the first ST convention forgetting that the first one was by Joan Winston in 72, while Creations was a comic book store in LI and Adam was trying to talk his Dad into doing conventions. So, much history is disappearing and to hear her talk is a blessing.

What the...?!? Most Videos from "Pioneers of Televison" had Time Chapters. Why does THIS VIDEO AND THE VIDEO OF GEORGE TAKEI suddenly does not have ANY Time Chaperts???? Not good, beacuse of missing Time Infos.
UPDATE / PS.: Leonard Nimoy and William Shatners Videos got Chapters and these Videos were posted earlier.
(It could be tha the Chanel decided to put Chapers in, later. That the First Videos the produced doesn't get / have Chapters, and then suddenly the Chanel decided to put in Chapters from this Moment on / from this Video forward, okay ... could be. BUT THIS VIDEO HERE with Nichelle Nichols AND the other one with with George Takei came out AFTER the Videos from Leonard and Bill... so that cannot be the explanation. Since her/hiis Video got out later. So what's going on?
And yes it also could be that at a certain Point they decided to use Chapers / to put in Chapters, and then after some time, they chanced there mind again and went back to no-Chapters. But this ALSO cannot be the Chase since the Video that was posted later, since the next Video, the one with James Edward Olmos suddenly has Chapters again. Hmm...)
Just saying, just Noticing. That's all

But, samething kinda happened to Star Wars. Too much politics was&is clouding it after Kennedy created w/force is female.👈🏻That didnt go over so well. Then the confusion set in w/all three films. Some Star Wars live action TV shows werent going ok. Could have been better/worse.
Then recently Kenobi is kinda laughable. Im thinkin Disney just ‘73 it.
(Side Note:Which is attached to Roe v Wade).
Im thinkin Disney just ‘73 it. Using old ideas/scene clips for new scenes/movies. Which doesnt go over so good. & at the sametime it tries/kinda links OT. While rendering Old legends obsolete. Which is an insult to lot of fans.
My view point/opinion: COVID19 & inflation isnt helping(Stupid). W/all the shit flyin around at now.
Hollywood & Disney were doing ok. Could have been better. Disney needs to broken up.
Also Disney turn Star Wars the family soap opera into a fan opera. Which is out of place. Its a failure in corporations that big(Monopolies).
George Lucas created Star Wars to be a family soap opera. Not Moral soap opera.
I neither like nor dislike the Sequel Trilogy. Just ☹️(Disappointed).
Now Nicholas it the nail on the head. Star Trek is a moral space opera. It’s designed to be like that.

These people obsessed with race........I would love to ask her a question : "The Black on White Crime Rate is staggering.....stunning.....mind boggling. How is this not the real racism in America ?"
