The BBC is perhaps the most perfect example of how public money can provide high quality, innovative and educational material that simply would not exist without public (aka Socialist *gasp*) support.
***** I don't know if you're using sarcasm here. I don't know the in depth situation of news organisations in America. Yet I do know that there are both good and bad news organisations there. I just hate the particular bias that BBC news has against India. However, I know they do atleast state sources on their stories although their commentary can be better.
Egg McMuffin WITHSOSE she says she found the clips in this video which could mean she made the video, but she could be just saying it bc it's scripted. who knows :)
Egg McMuffin WITHSOSE no. Joss fong is really great in everything she does. Look at all her videos you'll know. She's really good in searching and explaining to other people
Vox's Phil Edwards also does some awesome videos. By and large, Vox's video team is just outstanding. It's sort of a shame that Ezra Klein's political bits are also on the same channel. Ezra Klein is fantastic for audio, when he can have a 90 minute discussion and it draws out the complexity of the subject - but even if I agree with him 70% of the time, it's a bit cringeworthy to try to pack anything political in 5 minutes using visuals.
Mike Jensen my point is people that voted say, "he was the best choice over Hillary" and then they start defending Trump, who's another idiot. It's like Americans that voted for Trump feel the need to defend him to have their conscience clean on their decision at the ballot. They want to believe themselves that their choice was the right one. It's pure stupidity.
6:00 that shot was unbelievable , I came across it one morning while scrolling through Netflix and man I had to watch it 5 times over. I especially liked the shot from the top of the building showing the road below and all of the people/cars and as it pans to the left to the highway or whatever else was to the right of the shot. Absolutely incredible.
5:47 I was low key jus smiling happily cause of how cute the names were then my expression changed rq after she said eating a dead seal I was wAiT noOo
I definitely have watched planet earth 2 and been in awe at the shots they get. I've questioned how real they are because of how different it looks and how hyper detailed it is. I know it's all real but my brain went there. It's a nature documentary but in its own right its an artistic masterpiece and everyone who contributed to it deserves the upmost praise.
This cleared things up, back in high school (only half a decade ago), my film teacher explained frame rates wrong, he said that anything higher than 24 FPS was slow motion which confused me as video games run at at least 30 FPS and can go up to 120 FPS and The Hobbit movies were at 48 FPS, most recently, Gemini Man was at 120 FPS. Yeah, a high FPS is slow motion if you slow it down to 24 FPS but it produces a smooth picture if you play it at the speed it recorded at. Guess he never thought of it playing at the speed it was recorded at.
It's wrong and annoying AF to say "process-eez". If it were a Greek based word whose singular were "processis", then yes, the plural would be pronounced "process-eez". But it's just an ordinary word, like "mattresses" or "princesses".

Joss Fong is my favorite favorite FAVORITE presenter on Vox. :) Seriously. She's so smart, and funny and pretty too. Her work is so cool to see and hear!
They used hyperlapse but also hyperzoom with a sutil dolly focus pull effect. when. I saw that my mind exploded. That's such an amazing feat to achieve and yet normal people only see a cool timelapse for a couple of seconds.
i would love to have the job of creating these amazing shows. getting to sit out in the ocean, desert or jungle watching these creatures and waiting for that glorious moment to hit record. my mind is blown every time i watch these BBC programs, it's really quite distracting as im trying to watch and learn about the wildlife but cant stop wondering how they got these phenomenal shots.
As a filmmaker and photographer myself, I simply adore the work they produced. What they are doing is nothing new, but the attention to details and the execution is truly unbeatable. Simply stunning.
I would have loved to hear more on how they did the Hyperlapse. I remember watching that scene and being completely blown away at how seamless it felt. Pretty spectacular.
In case if you’re wondering who is the cameraman behind the Hyperlapse - 5:57 (it’s precisely called as Motion Lapse, a slightly higher version of Hyperlapse) it’s Rob Whitworth. I guess he is the only one that does motion lapse.
This is great, but Micrcosmos did a MUCH better job than BBC back in 1996. And the Koyaanisqatsi series have been playing with time wraps in the 80s. Love the series but this creates the misconceptions that the BBC invented the technology and cinematic style.
The camera continuously records and stored the past few seconds of footage in a buffer. This buffer is constantly updated so it always contains the last few seconds of footage. The recorder presses the button when they see something happen and the whole footage is saved into log term memory, including the few seconds before the button was pressed. This means the moments before the shark was seen coming out of the water was also captured.
That's interesting.. I always wondered how they knew to record before the animal jumped or whatever it was doing, turns out it just records before the button was pressed! :D
Loved every second of this. Newfound respect for photographers and their indefatigable efforts to bring us the world through fresh lenses (no pun intended). Thanks Vox!👏🙌
Okay, I'm watching Planet Earth II, but I didn't watch the first season, so I'm completely lost. What is a bird?!
its a government surveillance drone
Genuinely made me laugh
honestly, one of the funniest comments i've seen on youtube. actually laughed out loud a little bit
They are tiny creatures that want to smash becky.
Dawson Sennes ,,/,, this is a bird.
that hyperlapse is pure eye candy
That one shot took probably took almost if not more than 100 hours to shoot and edit all of those clips.
That shot would have taken thousands of man hours, not hundreds. Production began in 2013 and took 3 1/2 years
The guy that did it is Rob Whitworth. Check out his article on petapixel. The first draft of similar work took him 144 hours.

That was in 2006 I believe? Seeing that on the PS3 was amazing. 1080 with such clarity you really think it's 4k or something higher compressed down.

Except BBC News and it's bias towards India.

Those people who think those hummingbird shots were fake have been living under a rock
It's the same type of people that think smartphones run on magic.
They Dont! Man I am going to go cry in my room now.
how can we live under a rock if the earth is flat????
Smartphones use quantum physics, might as well be magic.
Eh, sort of. Transistors work on quantum tunneling. This includes all electronics though.
Give the whole Vox channel to this woman!!
why
i'm pretty sure she's just the narrator theirs probably somebody who collects this info then some one writes the script

MurdocMiKi is that the name of the cute asian girl that does the Vox Obsevatory pieces??
I will never look at BBC the same way again. Hats off to all those working there.
My mind literally got blown away, this is spectacular, thank you for this.

William C. Sierra literally? I doubt it. You're not Kurt Cobain
I remember when Kurt Cobain's mind sailed along the westerlies too.

Probably yes

Our publicly funded BBC documentaries are truly world class.

Bryon Letterman because Americans are too stupid to even admit that both Killary and Donald Dump are incompetent idiots.

Can someone explain me the continuous recording technology? (White shark example) I couldn’t find any reference...

Loved it. Very informative. I grew up watching this and always wondered how they filmed it.
BCC is the best in the woooorrrllld
TL;DR
Camera captures more frames at faster speeds to create the slow motion effect
Planet Earth and the team at the BCC truly set the bar for photography and making documentaries.

Hyperlapse. I had never seen this until that episode on Planet Earth 2. It blew my mind thinking how they created that.
what's the song at the end?
My whole family started watching an episode a night of The Planet Earth II. Sadly their contracts expire Dec 3 and it'll be off Netflix
Very interesting! I've always wondered how they capture those footage when I watch animal docs. WOW!
