@JustinBernard This is coming up on a search as from a 2006 album “Portrait” - although one commentator here has it in 1996, which would fit the timbre of the voice. He was a bit of a chamelion - his voice (and hair!) seemed to change in character several times during the course of a single year! So, as I am compiling a chronological playlist of his performances, I am a bit stuck as to where to put this one. The attached image suggests the 2000s, the timbre of the voice suggests mid to late 1990s, so, is the album “Portrait” a compilation of earlier performances I wonder? Also, this is a much “higher” timbre than his concert performances of this in the very early 1990s.
@@Kiarinadia a "tenor" solo? Not true. Dr Malatesta is a baritone - role. I am baritone my self, and i sing it... No idea why do you think it's a "tenor solo"...?
Are you kidding? His voice was only big when it was equalized in the studio. In fact, it was especially small in the opera house, and he was baritone by choice (his natural voice was tenor and he 'decided' to be a baritone).
@marokt What do soft westerners expect; he's from Soviet Siberia! That he lived to survive is about the only "happiness" those dear ones ever have, but I've heard he's a loving husband, and daddy to his two kids, most important.

My understanding is that one's fach is correlated -- to some extent -- to body height. Basses and baritones are basses and baritones because they are taller and have corresponding longer vocal chords. Tenors are tenors because they are shorter and have corresponding shorter vocal chords. Put on some weight, and they look even worse. Five by five, as the expression goes. Is it true? Don't ask me. I'm biased. I'm a baritone, and above average in height.
Not in all cases, I'm pretty short and i'm classified as a Bass-Baritone, it is more usual that basses/baritones are tall, but a lot of Tenors are tall too, it has some influence, yes. But it is not a factor to determine a voice. (Sorry if it's not clear, I don't really know if I explained it in a nice way, English isn´t my native language). Hope to have helped you:)
to me it always seemed like the tenor got the girl. yeletsky didn't get the girl. baritones tend to be villains/tricksters. but i guess it depends on which operas you're looking at i guess lolz
The Marriage of Figaro seems like the only true challenge to that idea, but you are right. It’s because tenors are seemed as more dramatic and emotional/sympathetic than baritones.
This “so mediocre” comment came from someone who has a playlist of Justin Timberlake 😂😂😂😂 So he’d obviously know everything there is to know about mediocrity….
There is no one better than Maestro Dmitri. ❤❤
Bravo.

He recorded this for Philips label. CD was released in 1994 - BEL CANTO ARIAS and is still available on Amazon.
it's just for fun: one "theory" says that the tenor is the lover in the opera but that the bass (and baritone) gets the girls at the end of the show.
Is this a concert record ? Because this song is the tenor solo...
@@Kiarinadia a "tenor" solo? Not true. Dr Malatesta is a baritone - role. I am baritone my self, and i sing it... No idea why do you think it's a "tenor solo"...?
True, great Siberian power. Opera house walls are in great peril of collapsing with him singing!
Are you kidding? His voice was only big when it was equalized in the studio. In fact, it was especially small in the opera house, and he was baritone by choice (his natural voice was tenor and he 'decided' to be a baritone).
What a heap of crap.
you're welcome. Indeed he is!
those were the days...
His today's voice is much deeper, "darker''.Anyway, very nice.
It was recorded n 1993-1994. He was 31 years old.
@jhvorotin The theory in question doesn't just apply to the opera :)
THIS VERSION IS MARVELLOUS
but i like his "OLDER" voice MUSH MUSH BETTER

@jhvorotin It's not a theory. It's an observation.
@jhvorotin hell ya! verily, verily, the bass and baritones shall get the girls at the end of the show :)

haha! yeah it's true
When was this recorded?
tim miller it was recorded in 1996, shortly before Dmitri reached his “prime”.
@sarahcyn who else is there for you? i ask to know whether i missed them:-)) somehow or nott.
@jhvorotin the theory must have been inspired by Dmitri :)
I agree.. but its not 2 notes higher. Till he gets the high Fa its ok. Then its completely different.
this is not the written cadenza, it is 2 notes higher

I’m a tenor and I’m 6’3”… granted I’m a larger voiced tenor, but still 😂

Nah. One of my friends is a low bass, able to access a resonant A1 in chest, and is barely 5'6

He can sing easily as well, but he hasNn't got a lot sense of humor.
so mediocre.
