You no doubt have heard it a thousand times...but the shield upgrades early pay dividends! after only like 4 rounds at second upgrade its effectively saved a cobalt worth of health.
That may be true but also that's resources you could use for other things. This is a pretty fine balancing act. High level players don't favour upgrading shield early because health isn't that important. If you ramp up economy to get damage and play well you won't get hit much. But yeah since I'm upgrading health anyways I probably should upgrade shield until I get better.

why are you not dragging materials up with you in the elevator? you can at least move them upwards so that it takes less time for the orbs to drag them. consider bringing some up with you each time instead of wasting a trip.
Def worth doing a better job of that. As to why I'm not doing it. It takes time and you can knock resources off the lift. Once I get the lift I try to wait as long as possible to head up.
When you run on basically one heal only why didnt you invest into your shield more? Like the overload feature or basic strengh. Serious question since intuition kind of suggest this. And since you can create water for overload by either tree or converter you would prolong your lifespan.
It's a complicated answer but it boils down to you want to get your economy going as fast as possible so you can upgrade your weapons fast so you can kill the enemies before they do any damage at all. I'm just not skilled enough with these new Domes plus Assessor yet to demonstrate it. If you go back and watch some of my sword dome runs you'll see it more clearly. There is a point where you do upgrade shields but you want to delay it as long as possible. I think it's probably because the shield upgrades aren't really THAT strong. The overload requires water to feed it until you get the autoverload with the condenser gadget. That water is better used for score/econ upgrades/weapons first. Like I said it's complicated and it's based on what the other top players do. Might be a better way to upgrade but I don't have time or desire to map it all out.
@@LucklessLovelocks thanks for really dedicated answer. The fact I did not account for was the upgrade into prestige points and the ability to bail (given you enough iron). So your point is basically: have a strong eco and enough firepower to either bail or invest into dedicated defence to get more points before bailing. Right?
You want to get as many resources as fast as possible to invest as much as possible into score while minimizing your investment in defending the dome. The shield itself is just not an efficient way to defend the dome vs good offense and playing well@@oOBlackadderOo
For a veteran of the game but a noob to prestige, what's some advice that you may bestow upon me? Planning on working with the Tesla/shield combo and thinking of the converter and water one infinite iron and infinite overcharge).
Those are the two gadgets to start with for sure. With engineer the lift is the next gadget and then spire/auto cannon. First cave should be the x-ray to help find resources. The other big thing is to keep 3 connected water at the top to plant your seed. That 3 extra water can be a big deal in the long run.

I'm probably going to practice with the assessor as I really enjoy sending a bunch up at a time. Though more expensive, I favor their ability to extend the life of the group to a few minutes as well as have it stop at the center.
Do you find the reflection upgrade for the shield better in prestige than the invulnerability?
@@Ironica82 that's what the top players use. I think it's because when you get into later waves the reflection will do a lot of damage also. Really prestige is about building to be as strong as possible in the late game to survive. You should watch zimny11 and SlipperyDome to see what they do. They're the real pros.
