      I think maybe what we see in the sky box is actually the severed branch of Yggdrasil, which held Valheim, rather than the whole world tree... It would be awesome to progress beyond Valheim to the other realms of Norse mythology in a later sequel

    • @CasualCritic

      @@Kadath_Gaming That would be very cool indeed, although showing it in the skybox doesnt necesserilly mean that valheim is still attached to begin with. We could already be floating, but just still close by.

    Viking limbo
    The word itself seems like it is a cross between valhalla and helheim.
    The equivelant of heaven and hell in norse if i recall.
    The name scheme also makes sense.

    I always just assumed the Yggdrasil branches we see in the sky are still attached to Valheim, but severed from Yggdrasil itself.

    7:43 Maybe when Odin was fashioning the 10th realm of Valheim he took parts from the other 9 realms to build it. Since Valheim is supposed to be a penal colony of sorts for his various enemies which probably includes various giants, fire demons, Vanir that would not submit, monsters, trolls, spirits, and even some troublesome mortals as well as other enemies of the ruling Asir it would only make sense that if Odin wanted to keep his foes alive but still isolated he'd place them in similar environments to their native realms. So it was that Valheim is a patchwork realm, made up of parts from its sister realms mashed together by Odin's arcane machinations to serve as permanent exile for his enemies, far away from the All-father's sight and whom were supposed to remain neutralized as (potential) threats to his power. To some, the various regions within Valheim that are so distinct are like a bitter slice of a home lost forever to them (for the ageless or longer lived beings), to others its mere glimpses of homelands they've never known and only through stories past down through the generations (for shorter lived 'races'), still for others it's seen as a second chance, to start again in a new realm. (could iclude the ageless, shorter lived generational groups, long lived beings, and new comers)

      Odin isn't a creator god. He can't create a realm. He took all the foes that he couldn't kill, chucked em in this realm, and severed its connection to yggdrasil.

    Im glad you spend the time to pronounce words correctly! I cringe everytime I see a creator spend time making a video but then mispronounce all the words incorrectly. I know its not a big deal but I certainly notice :)

    Helheim being hell is a common misconception. It's not a place of torture and punishment but merely the "default" realm for all those who died from whichever cause apart from the few that died gloriously (in battle) and are granted premium access to Valhalla so to speak. Even gods go to Helheim when they die as did Balder.

    Simulation from Odin to fallen warrior to prepare to fight for him at the End.
    Valheim replicates some of the other worlds: Meadows being Midgard, the new Ashland could be the fiery Muspelheim and so on.
    Very good game, been enjoying it since it’s debut on PC and gladly went back to it once It went to xbox.
    It’s a very good way to get people interested in the Norde culture and mythology.

    -val- comes from Latin, where it has the meaning "worth; health; strength. '' This meaning is found in such words as: devalue, equivalent, evaluate, prevalent, undervalue, valedictorian, valiant, valid, validate, valor, value. And heim in norse means home, homewards, so its paying tribute to the land of valheim being our home, essentially saying to value the journey homewards. Basically its a name that signifies the value of building your home ingame and seeking validation with said structures, and valor with ones combat protecting ones home ofc(hence the raids) and the validation one gets after completing a lengthy build or grinding for required materials. Also could mean not to undervalue your home, or be prevelant in defending it. I mean with what val means and heim means, biasly im sure they just pieced together two words that describe progression and worth. Would love to hear what others think of this theory of mine. Though truthfully my explanation doesnt explain anything of the lore. So kudos on that;)

    • @CasualCritic

      I like your deduction! It could very well have something to do with it - im assuming the devs didnt just pull a cool sounding word out of their hat. That said, "heim" is in the other realms'names as well, meaning it might not signify "home" as much as "world", or "homeworld" or something similar. The val part is interesting though - especially because it was used as a dumping ground for all of Odin's enemies. Worthless would be more fitting - but very interesting nonetheless!

      Actually, the name likely comes from the Old Norse words valr (meaning the dead or the slain) + heimr (meaning home). So Valheim would mean Home of the Slain.

    Though not wrong to say it's a positive afterlife Asgard/Volholls/Valhalla isn't equivalent to the Christian Heaven, the way that Christians describe their afterlife of eternal peace and tranquility is often translated as making it more akin to Helheimr.

    Valheim has already stated it exists in the dimension of the dead in Norse mythology.

    • @msarilyn7677
      @msarilyn7677 3 роки тому

      In case you are wondering there are several dimensions one can go to in Norse mythology that are connected to one another through Yggdrasil the world tree.

    • @CasualCritic
      @CasualCritic  3 роки тому +1

      Where did you get this info? And I assume you mean realm by dimension, right?
      The realm of the dead, as stated in the video, is called Helheim - the game itself states that Odin created the 10th realm Valheim, and cut it loose from Yggdrasil. He sent his enemies there, and later dead humans, like us. So in a sense it is A realm of the dead, but by no means inside the actual realm of the dead - Helheim.

      @@CasualCritic Helheim is literally HELL that is where the word comes from. Not just a realm of dead people.

    • @CasualCritic
      @CasualCritic  3 роки тому +7

      @@msarilyn7677 I strongly disagree there - have you watched the video? Helheim is called HEL, most likely because its ruler, daughter of Loki, is called Hel. But besides that - the game actually states Valheim as a seperate realm - so im not sure what you are referring to with "Existing in the dimension of the dead", but I dont follow...
      If you have a source of a dev saying anything like that, please link - im curious.

    I haven't seen the in-game verbiage specify that the 10th realm *is* Valheim. I had been thinking Valheim is a place created to re-train up fallen warriors in preparation to send them to the 10th realm. So the Valheim bosses may be enemies of Odin but they're not the same enemies who were banished to the 10th realm; there's a whole other set of even more challenging bosses after defeating those we see in Valheim.

    • @pangeaforever
      @pangeaforever 8 місяців тому

      I think the opening text crawl IS saying the 10th world is Valheim. They are growing in power and the chosen warriors were sent to that world to defeath Odin's enemies. I don't get any indication that we're talking about two different realms in the opening text crawl. However, it would be cool if the end game were another realm you went to for a sort of boss rush.
