To me it feels like they took too many things from different games and tried to glue it together: Tiles from Clash of Cultures Cities and trade posts from Era of Tribes Some things directly from Sid Meier's Civilization Combat track that reminds me Through the Ages. But I think it's quite the problem taking small pieces from every game and then make a medium weight game. Feels weird. Also, prices are quite crazy.. the materials are very basic, but basic+expansion will be higher than the price of Clash of Cultures: Monumental Edition that has tons of miniatures..?! And the deluxe edition is deluxifying the wrong things in my opinion. The video itself is great Alex, thank you! It definitely helps taking a decision
I played this game several times. It was a lot of fun. And I always think civ games stink without a computer. I’ll try to address some questions. - compared to clash of cultures. It is much simpler and quicker than clash. Tech trees are gone. Culture is king. You get it via many ways. - each nation has unique bonuses which can only be used twice. They vary greatly. Some nations are warmongerish. Some are not. - it is possible to warmonger another player into oblivion. However, the amt of points you get start to diminish - I felt the military upkeep was way too costly. There is a weird tension with keeping military high enough to act as a deterrent. - the way actions are generated with the cards is brilliant. - there are engine building elements in this game. They can be very powerful. - combat is intuitive and makes sense. - the terrain types each have military who works best in that terrain. (Jaguar warrior in forest, for example). So sticking with similar terrain does benefit you. - the trading network mechanic is cool. - this video doesn’t do anything to help anyone to understand this game. He is ranting way too fast. Go find another video. I even have a playthrough of this.
I love Civilization games, but waiting to see final release reviews. Crowdfunding has gotten more expensive, A LOT more expensive, and great games seem to always come back for a second run or expansion, so might as well just wait and see what the final release is.
Wonder how it compere to Clash of Cultures.. There's enough that made me intrested but that covered in dust big box of CoC does bring some degree of anxiety. 😂

There's something poetic about Clash of Cultures hovering above Epoch's game box. Really big boots to try and fill.
Lol indeed
Are you going to do a Back or Not Back on this one? I haven't seen it pop up.
I feel that it is just another Civilization. I miss games like this but set in a more condensed period like e.g. Clash of Cultures.

How does Epochs compare to Nations & Mosaic, thx?
OMG, I'm only 3 mins into this review and am totally confused . Guess it's not for me

How did you ever know what was going on? Well done
I won’t correct you for how you say “epoch” but those are columns, not rows.
lol fair

Small overlap, very different games
