Had similar issues missing hooksets using the Gamakatsu weedless hook and a medium action spinning rod. Once I went up to a medium heavy spinning rod my hookset percentage dramatically increased. No issues using the same hook on my medium action bait caster.
Some of my best days fishing are just like this video, find the one thing they want more often than not by accident, drop everything at the truck and follow the pattern.
I agree with you on some of the weedless hooks. The ones like you are using where the weedless thing “snaps” in to the hook I have a difficult time hooking them. The ones with the two wires that just hang off and don’t hook into anything seem to work better for me. I especially like the weighted wacky hooks, I think 1/16th oz, with the weedless wires...those things work very well, especially on windy days.
Debo, Ive been using the VMC wacky weedless in a 3/0 size. I even snipped the weedless wire off one, to become non-weedless. However I didnt see any difference in my hook up ratio. MH
Medium Power would likely cover those for you. If you find a medium power with a soft tip, that would be ideal because you could have the backbone of a medium with the soft tip to fish those lighter dropshots.
I also missed fish with that style hook at first, then I started using o-rings on the senkos, and just barely skin hooking the senko allowing it to slide easier up the shank of the hook. The senko was staying down in the bend of the hook when fish took it, blocking the nylon weed guard from extending and getting out of the way if the hook point. Give the o-rings a try and see if that doesn't increase the hookup percentage for you.
Had a horrible evening missing fish on a Berkeley weedless wacky. Switched to the VMC and have only lost one fish since and that was a drag problem. Tagged you in the results from today’s wacky adventure on the Insta. Had a fun day with my kiddo.
I like the VMC wacky hooks works best for me good video I remember the first time I used wacky rig bubble gum trick worm caught so many I quit counting
Have you ever reviewed the quantum 100 . I just got one and was curious. What your thoughts were. The rod is 7 ft shock med heavy. I caught a 5lb bass on it and it did not break.
I got several packs of the vmc weedless wacky hooks and hated the wire on them. I bet I missed half my fish so I started just cutting the weed gaurd off and they worked just fine. But now I use the 6th sense wacky hooks.
I wonder how many Men have told there Wives “one more cast” lol and I truly appreciate the video and I’m certain it saved some Guys from the Gamakatsu Weedless Hooks and possibly losing a Monster Lunker. I know the wacky rig is difficult to use in the River here but the Drop Shot works well.
Have you or could you make a video of lures and what are the best Weather conditions to fish them? For example Spinnerbait, soft plastic,Chatterbait, crankbaits, etc.
I miss a lot of hooksets on the wacky using a similar berkley weedless hook idk what I need to do better. I usually switch to a Ned rig out of frustration.
I have found lots of lures on the ground these last few months of scouting ponds and rivers. I find more line than lures but that's a reason i carry empty grocery bags in my kit.
I’m stuck on the octopus hook for my wacky rig. I’d like to find something to make them weedless without missing so many fish. If there was a way to do something like a Texas rig/ wacky rig combination.
Good video man ! I been fishing wacky too but it's been so cold here in Illinois. What is also a great finesse jig to use , need some help picking some out ! Keep up the great work bro ...
I tried some with a wire guard like that, VMC I think. Had same problem, used cutters and just cut the weed guard off. Hooks are fine, guards are not. VMC Neko hooks are good. I have also had good luck with Mustad Titan X hooks.
I really appreciate the info! I def use the wacky rig in the spring, but usually fish them weedless. I will have to check those out and see if I can land a few more feesh! Thanks! Keep em comin!
I’ve had the same issues with the vmc weedless Neko hooks and missing fish and those just have 2 thick mono lines for the weedless version. i use the #1 Neko vmc like you and just accept to lose a few hooks and get snagged once in awhile....the lure is light enough tho using those weights you slide down your line to pop your lure off a branch can save a few snags.👍🏻
I'm just getting back into bass fishing. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. A lot of channels just want you to see their haul, but you actually provide the info on your rigs and r&r combos. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
I gotta say Debo. I have messaged you about my set ups and I have been using red lip less, jerkbait and even chatterbait and also struggling getting bites. So it is a relief seeing you struggle getting fish as well.
Weather’s been fugly here too. Frost again tonight they say. You’re finding way more fish than I’ve been able to so far. Try the eagle claw weedless from hooks Wally World. I’ve been happy with the hook up ratio on them though I won’t use weedless hooks either if I don’t have to.
Just started bass fishing, everyone I’ve caught has been wacky rig but with drop shot set up. Is that not the way? All I know is if I caught that many bass in a day would I not ever be home but I’d loose my job too! You get me riled up every day ! Unfortunately my days don’t go like that but still loving to just be out there!
Not necessarily just a spring lure, but I haven't seen you try a drop shot setup. 1/4oz tungsten weight. Owner mosquito light hook size 1 and nose hook a Big Bite Baits Smallie Smasher 4.5". The color is GP Org Blk/Pearl Blue Flake. It's a bluegill imitation. Caught a 2.4 pounder and a 3.2 pounder here in Oregon last week. That new Okuma rod/reel spinning combo looks great btw. Thanks Debo!!
I never had a problem with those hooks before but today I missed 3 dang bites within 5 minutes with those wacky hooks. they wouldn’t stick em! I’m definitely getting the neko hooks and going back
I like using drop shot hooks for wacky rigs. They have a slight angle going back which isn't weedless, but helps a lil. But also a shorter shank so bass get the whole thing in a bite! Also, diggin the music at the end! Let's get together and rip some lips soon brother!
Love your videos debo they do better with an o-ring, my favorite wacky hook is the tro-kar Finesse TK137 size you don't even have to set the hook hard at all
Debo, I have a theory about the spring type weed guards like you were using. I believe that when a bass picks up your bait, the guard springs open, smacking the fish in the roof of the mouth. This causes the fish to stop the bite and open his mouth. (Kind of like your buddy in 5th grade flicking your ear lobe with his index finger). The collapsible type weed guards work well for me. Would love to see some underwater footage to see if this is true.
Yep, will never waste money on Gary Yamamoto and similar overpriced senkos again. It's all about the correct color and size. Never caught more on a Yamamoto than a Dinger or other cheaper options. The bait movement and action on different brands will not be that drastic on such a simple style bait and technique.
@@fishfood8719 i agree on the size of the lure but most of the time i don't think color matters too much. I bet he would've caught the same fish if it was a green pumpkin dinger.
Try the hayabusa weedless hooks and decoy makes a good one as well it’s a shame cause I have so many packs of the gamakatshu hooks the only way I would use them is by cutting that weed guard off
You need to wait a few extra second before setting the hook. Put some fishsticks on it and they’ll hang onto it. You also have to pull your big boy pants up and set the hook. I use those hooks all the time on the Delta with nearly 100% hookup ratio. Have to be patient though.
Yall should try my modified wacky rig... 2/0 ewg Texas rig 1/16oz with a sinker stop, but slide that stop 2-3 inches above the hook. Regular skin hooked wacky style. Use whatever plastic you want and it’s a wacky rig you can throw with any rod/reel setup you want. I think you’ll like the action because it’s different. If senkos fall too fast try zoom finesse trickworm or any floating plastic
Owner weedless wacky hooks are the way to go when you need a weedless hook for wacky rigs. Sharp and I haven't lost a fish like I did with the gamakatsu weedless.
Same problem with those hooks. Only weedless hook I’ll use (regularly) with wacky rig is the Eagle Claw Laser weedless. I think a “J” style hook is better than that short “C” style hook.
very nice! I'm with you, looking forward to some warmer days. This cold front, rain, cold front, rain cycle sucks!
Had similar issues missing hooksets using the Gamakatsu weedless hook and a medium action spinning rod. Once I went up to a medium heavy spinning rod my hookset percentage dramatically increased. No issues using the same hook on my medium action bait caster.
Man idk how people can dislike this video. Love your vids Debo keep it up!!
yell-o braid.. nice.. go get em.. nice work
Some of my best days fishing are just like this video, find the one thing they want more often than not by accident, drop everything at the truck and follow the pattern.
Senko style worm always works. Cool video.
Yes more fishing
Debo and dizzle. Great video
I agree with you on some of the weedless hooks. The ones like you are using where the weedless thing “snaps” in to the hook I have a difficult time hooking them. I especially like the weighted wacky hooks, I think 1/16th oz, with the weedless wires...those things work very well, especially on windy days.
Great video I was actually going to try the neko hook for wacky rigs based off your wacky rig video from a while back keep the goods coming 🎣🎣🔥🔥
Perfect Video
Not using the o rings on the bait anymore? They sure save me a ton of baits.
great stuff like always
Great video I for sure need to carry much less when I walk the banks.
Thank you bro for this vid !!
Debo, Ive been using the VMC wacky weedless in a 3/0 size. I even snipped the weedless wire off one, to become non-weedless. However I didnt see any difference in my hook up ratio. MH
The yum dinger my favorite stick bait
Great video brother! Keep killing it.
If you were getting a spinning rod for wacky rigs and drop shots (nose hooked and Texas rigged) would you go Medium Power or Medium Light?
Medium Power would likely cover those for you. If you find a medium power with a soft tip, that would be ideal because you could have the backbone of a medium with the soft tip to fish those lighter dropshots.
Just caught my PB largemouth today went just over 4lbs! Ya taught me so much man I appreciate it
I also missed fish with that style hook at first, then I started using o-rings on the senkos, and just barely skin hooking the senko allowing it to slide easier up the shank of the hook. The senko was staying down in the bend of the hook when fish took it, blocking the nylon weed guard from extending and getting out of the way if the hook point. Give the o-rings a try and see if that doesn't increase the hookup percentage for you.
Love the Yumdinger. EWG texas rigged weighless.
Watermelon seed and June bug on a Texas rig caught me good ones this weekend. I can’t believe I was sleeping on the Yum dingers
Had a horrible evening missing fish on a Berkeley weedless wacky. Switched to the VMC and have only lost one fish since and that was a drag problem. Tagged you in the results from today’s wacky adventure on the Insta. Had a fun day with my kiddo.
I don’t toss a wacky rig near as much I did when I first got into bass fishing. I guess it’s probably due to my obsession with the Ned Rig 🤠
I use the VMC’s as well
I like the VMC wacky hooks works best for me good video I remember the first time I used wacky rig bubble gum trick worm caught so many I quit counting
Lol at 10:24 dis Debo or Napoleon Dynamite? 😂
Have you ever reviewed the quantum 100 . I just got one and was curious. What your thoughts were. The rod is 7 ft shock med heavy. I caught a 5lb bass on it and it did not break.
Bend the hook out a few degrees and it will hook up butter. Love the channel.
I just started throwing the wacky rig and was wondering what hook, brand/size and line size do you prefer?
I guess if I just watched all the way through before commenting I would get my questions answered
That rig is wacky! Haha dad jokes for ya.
I started out with those Gam weedless for wacky and since trying those Neko 1 #1 weedless or regular, have not looked back.
I missed sooo many fish last year with those weedless wacky hooks. I switched to the Owner Mosquito hooks and never looked back.
I've been having luck with a skirted jig with a ribbon tail worm
what do you think about a brand new set never bend used Lew’s fishing rod and Mach1 reel for $135.00 obo

Those VMC Neko hooks are sold weedless too. They put 50lb fluorocarbon 'V' shaped weed-gaurd at the eyelet. The weed-guard is adjustable.
What was the deal with the berkley fusion hooks you were using for a while on your wacky rigs?
It was cold on Monday and the bite was tough. Threw a wacky and got a 3.5 pounder. Biggest of the year so far. I really need to throw it more.
I just went purchase 2 packs of those yesterday why dint you make this video earlier. Lol
I am a believer that the weed guards on the vmc and gamakatsu both cause you to loose fish. Big fan of just a regular wacky or weighted wacky hooks.
I tried some with a wire guard like that, VMC I think. Had same problem, used cutters and just cut the weed guard off. Hooks are fine, guards are not. VMC Neko hooks are good. I have also had good luck with Mustad Titan X hooks.

I had one of those days last week they didn’t want anything but the wacky worm. Nice video brother - also don’t like weed guard!
Find the wood, pitch to the wood, become the wood.
I gotta say Debo. I have messaged you about my set ups and I have been using red lip less, jerkbait and even chatterbait and also struggling getting bites. So it is a relief seeing you struggle getting fish as well.

Hayabusa WRM962 Power Wacky Hooks are my favorite hooks for fishing weightless stick baits/worms
Just started bass fishing, everyone I’ve caught has been wacky rig but with drop shot set up. Is that not the way? All I know is if I caught that many bass in a day would I not ever be home but I’d loose my job too! You get me riled up every day ! Senkos usually only produce smaller fish for me. I do use it on top of moss like a frog and I can drag it into the holes on top
My favorite Wacky hook is the Mustad TitanX Wacky/Neko Rig Hook
I never had a problem with those hooks before but today I missed 3 dang bites within 5 minutes with those wacky hooks. they wouldn’t stick em! I’m definitely getting the neko hooks and going back
Watched some of your previous tutorials on the wacky rig and this ViDebo definitely makes me glad I plan to work on this technique on slow days.
I just picked up those VMC Neko hooks. I found them with a light weed guard, too. Guess I’ll find out if that’s a problem, too.
I like using drop shot hooks for wacky rigs. They have a slight angle going back which isn't weedless, but helps a lil. But also a shorter shank so bass get the whole thing in a bite! Also, diggin the music at the end! Let's get together and rip some lips soon brother!
Working on learning how to use the Wacky rig as well! Great video DEBO.
Love your videos debo they do better with an o-ring, my favorite wacky hook is the tro-kar
Finesse TK137 size you don't even have to set the hook hard at all
Yes the neko hooks are key. I have used berkley weedless round 1/0 and gamagatsu same ones you used and they stink for sure with hook up ratio
Randizzle disappeared after the intro. 👍🍺🎣
Debo, I have a theory about the spring type weed guards like you were using. I believe that when a bass picks up your bait, the guard springs open, smacking the fish in the roof of the mouth. Get the eagle claw weedless hooks with the metal guard
Let's go wacky
What if your missing them because they are so small they are grabbing the ends of the worm and not the middle with the hook?
I spend hundreds of dollars on lures and all it takes is a 2.99 bag of yum dingers to catch fish... 🤦
$2.79 at my Walmart. Score!!!
Yep, will never waste money on Gary Yamamoto and similar overpriced senkos again. It's all about the correct color and size. Never caught more on a Yamamoto than a Dinger or other cheaper options. @@fishfood8719 i agree on the size of the lure but most of the time i don't think color matters too much. I bet he would've caught the same fish if it was a green pumpkin dinger.
Brother when all else fails. Crack’em with the wacky stick. I use the VMC Neko hooks 1 or 1/0. If i get the weedless, i just snip the guards off
OSP Scrum hook all day. Great video!!!
Try the hayabusa weedless hooks and decoy makes a good one as well it’s a shame cause I have so many packs of the gamakatshu hooks the only way I would use them is by cutting that weed guard off
i live in low mich and we had ice in some places ,
You need to wait a few extra second before setting the hook. Put some fishsticks on it and they’ll hang onto it. You also have to pull your big boy pants up and set the hook. I use those hooks all the time on the Delta with nearly 100% hookup ratio. Have to be patient though.
That's the same hook I use and I haven't had any problem setting the hook and putting them in the boat. I use the 'o' ring setup.
Owner weedless wacky hooks are the way to go when you need a weedless hook for wacky rigs. Sharp and I haven't lost a fish like I did with the gamakatsu weedless.
The fish at 7:02 looked nice and a potential chunker.
Did you weight the senko? (i.e. nail weight)
I’m using weedless hooks less often also.
Found your channel a week ago.... love the content. Keep it going. One of my favorite fishing channels right now!
Do they make a weedless neko hook?
What brand of hook are you using?
Try the Owner jungle wacky in #1, I just buy all weedless and cut the legs off when in open water. It doesn't miss fish.
I still haven’t used a wacky rig! I have more than enough gear to do it now just haven’t tried it.
Soooo what was that lure you found?
Still think a Debo Dink tee shirt would be awesome
I also like the Yum Swimmin Dinger!
I have those I used to use the VMC. But I prefer the the octopus and the wacky rig is my go to way to fish.
I like the VMC Neko hook and the Gamakatsu Wicked Wacky, never had a problem with hook ups on the Wicked Wacky shape hook
I had the VMC weedless wacky hook and stopped using them after loosing a few fish never used them again
Hmm 🤔 I've been throwing Everything but a Wacky. Time to tie up Braid to fluro
Try this hooks chris zaldain for soft plastic 1/0
Great video! I’m digging the neko hooks on a wacky rig; that weedless seems to causing issues. Keep it up! Gotta love the dinks!
Same problem with those hooks. Only weedless hook I’ll use (regularly) with wacky rig is the Eagle Claw Laser weedless.
I think a “J” style hook is better than that short “C” style hook.
what kind of hook would you recommend with the wacky Rig DEBO??
