I hope this does not become too long. Jurius, and everyone who posted here, both with comments and extra advice, Thank you! I am a new player, and EVE can be very intimidating! (like burnottx mentioned about undocking), I have been fearful, even terrified of losing something I just earned. However, I hope someone new reads this and it helps remove your fear or apprehension of getting into this amazing game:
    1. You will be shot. You will lose ships. You will lose nice ships. It's okay, you will build nicer ones, you will learn what you can do differently next time. Losing your first ship is not the end, it's only the beginning!
    2. Take the advice, and learn from it! There are so, so many people in EVE who all they want from you as a new player is to NOT hit the same walls they hit, so they make you tube videos, websites, everything they can to make sure YOU (Yes, you!) enjoy this game, and keep coming back! Not for their glory, not for the clicks and "likes", but because they love this game, and they want you to love it as well!
    3. JOIN A CORP, period. full stop. The absolute hardest thing you can do in EVE is to be "el lobo solo", it is unsustainable over the long haul, and you'll end up burning yourself out in the endless cycle of shoot, mine, build, replace, etc. A corp is like..your favorite bar, or gaming group..or bowling league! You'll get to know the people, they will help you navigate the huge universe that is New Eden, the help you receive will rub off on you, and you will find yourself helping someone new down the road.
And that, is a win for everyone.
    4. Accept the fact that there are bad actors and jerks in space! You will be ganked, gated, hunted, webbed, modded, (I don't know all the bad terms..), you will be taken advantage of in a corp, people will offer you free stuff, then shoot you for the sheer fun of it, I can go on and on..sound familiar? like, oh, I don't know..life, perhaps? People are jacked up, and they do play EVE. But there are more hard working, nice people who will pick you up, dust you off, give you advice to help you, and hey, they may even give you a new ship and show you how to fly it! (p.s.: be sure to say thank you if that happens!)
    5. You will here something about the "Core 14". Simply put, it's 14 core skills that if you constantly train them (which comes into Jurius's statement about "delayed gratification"), you will mine faster, shoot better, be able to fly better ships faster, and will help you succeed in this game, trust me! (I'm almost done training up my 14 to level 5!, and yes, it takes awhile!)
It will sound cliche, but..train the 14. Your capsuleer will thank you!
Thank you Jurius, and everyone for allowing me to speak on this, I could've said more, but I just want to encourage everyone who contributes to making EVE Online amazing! Now, I have to write down that new player corp mentioned in the comments...

I got my first kill a month or two ago, I was in a coercer in Tama, and fully expected to die when a heron warped to me at 0 and started blasting, my reps were barely keeping me alive as the heron was chipping away at my hull, yet I was doing no damage, then I realised that he had an optimal range disruption script on me and I switched ammo type from multifrequency to microwave, and pew pew I won. Second best moment of my life :)

Welcome back Doctor J.! I enjoyed your videos when I first started EvE years ago; I just recently re-downloaded after years away . Within my first 10 minutes of playing after years of sitting my Astero got blowed up by a sleeper cache because I had no idea what it was. EvE may not have instant gratification, but it has instant punishment for stupidity : )
Edit: For newer players I wanted to add that the game even warned me saying, "Stay away or die" and I just ignored it. /flex

I love how with all the difficulty that this game entails, learning all the math behind the turret mechanics, understanding the compositions of fleet combat, and all its infinite depth that you have dedicated yourself to teaching, you bring it on yourself to teach something even more difficult - Trying to improve peoples attitudes and improve them as people. I'm not sure how effective it will be, but i applaud the effort in the video, seriously underrated.

I have been playing this game for 5 years, but rather casually, and not really getting into the social part of it. Over the past month or so, I have found myself becoming more interested in the community aspect. For the past week I have been focusing on finding entry guides like this one to get a better sense of how to go about getting more into the game and community. Yours is one of the very best I have found so far. The real life helpful groups you mention are very interesting indeed. This is the first time I have heard of such things existing because of the EVE game community. This is like real life sports communities that have support groups for their participants.

Some corp mates told her to cobtact the rescue service. I told her *im the system where you found your initial WH. Ill park my barge and rescue you.* i had her give me all the details she could remember and used some deductive reasoning by thinking from her perspective. After about a hour (im not sure how long it took) she finally recieved the message *i found you, rescue has arrived* followed me through the few WHs and to safety. It was unexpected that id launch a rescue mission that night😂

    Ha!
    Im one of those.
Started playing eve (iirc november 2017), asked experienced players whats most profitable, they told me exploration, went to google, went to youtube, watched a bunch of guides (or had them play in the background), started exploring, got decent skills (both personal and character) within a week, and on 17th day of playing eve i plexed myself with casual 4 hours or so of exploration on average. A few times i got lucky and brought 300-400 mil from a single wormhole :)
8 months later i was sitting in a rorq.
Couple months after that i was running a capital ship shop in low sec.
    Took a break.
    Came back to nullsec.
    Started trading ore in bulk.
    Started trading supers.
Got 70ish bil liquid and a titan (though some of those i got along the way, i didnt really "grind" it).

I agree with all of your points, except for #7.
As a starting player without any alts and any skills going into industry is a waste of time and SP (which is limited to 5kk on Alpha char).
General mining in high sec (and even in low sec) gives very low profits for time spent, especially if you include time for hauling of minerals to production stations/market. Doing any other content for the same amount of time will give at least 2-3 times more ISK which will allow to just buy replacement ships from market.
Yes, I know that there are some exceptions (like gas harvesting or some events) but they require much more knowledge and investment than any new player will have at start.
Industry can become helpful later on as an additional passive source of income, but wasting your first weeks of training and gameplay on a Venture... to shoot rocks? I strongly advise against recommending that to new players.

the community is not better then others. like in the RL,good guys are rare. every day harmless player get killed,a player with brain and soul would not kill those player. this is far from good community.
pvp is the reason why the game not grows, most player leave because of bad endless farming,no real law system. a miner in highsec earn 6-20 mill per hour but ships cost 1bill and more. endless farming without good content. a smart developer would push pve content. then the most player in the world are pve player. highsec need to be 100% save. you want pvp then go to 0,0. so easy is good gamerdesign

In regards to delayed gratification and plex - I also can't just throw a load of real money at the game and 'win'.
I could buy a lot of plex, sell it, and be able to buy a decked out Marauder, for example, but if I don't have the skills levelled i won't be able to even get in the ship, and if I only have the minimum requirements I won't be able to do much with it - figured that out the hard way recently trying a Calm Exotic Abyss in a Caracal with only the base requirements; 26m ISK just gone, lol
I've heard some horror stories about EVE's PvP and how harsh it is, it put me off for a while, but on my first Venture expedition I was warned by a complete stranger about 'CODE' and advised to mark the corp as hostile - I also figure that it's unlikely anyone will waste a Catalyst on killing someone's Venture worth less than a mil; but a mining barge is a different story.

I also earn enough to allow myself every few months a break of one to two months from the game, believe me everybody shoould its way more fun coming back to new changes and the skilling also takes longer so during that time i continue omega for skilling.

First off, I'd like to say thank you for making this video. I began playing almost 6 years ago, and have been inactive for 2 years. I was playing the game with the wrong thought process and I regret it greatly because it hampered my drive to play daily like I used to. I started a rookie, and left a rookie with a few kills. I never gave myself the chance to learn and grow. I went from wanting to become a highly regarded FC, and a respected PvPer, to giving up, burning out, and just leaving silently like the wind out of somebody's airlock. As of right now after watching this video I have redownloaded the game with a fresh new mindset and I'm ready to take this game the way I should have. With that being said. There is so much stuff to do even as beginners. Within a day of playing I had millions of isk and multiple ships including a strong t1 abyssal solo ship. And the corp I found is just absolutely amazing they answer any questions, constantly recruit new players and help them, and don't care how active you are or ask for money just to be in the corp. Currently I'm stuck on running abyssals they are super easy and rewarding. Sometimes I go exploring its super fun finding new areas and looking at the cool planets and stuff they made for this game. 10/10 recommend playing this

I have found that people in EVE are not necessarily "Dumb", but, they like to overstate or understate things, and can often give bad advice. Many people think that something is easy because they have learned how to do something, when to a newer player, what they are talking about, isn't easy, or achievable to said new player just yet.

First some back ground on me and my experiance in eve. I started playing in 2012. Yes pre blood bath of b-r5rb. I have flown with some of the biggest names in the game. But always been in the behind the scenes never at the front. I would like to stay first thank you for a great video. Secondly to add to a couple of points. I was into indy at the start. That was my bread and butter of the game. I actively avoided it. Even when living in null sec. The burn out is real. I honestly spent so much time focusing on running the indy side of a corp that fed several of the large coaliltions that eve was becoming a day job for me. Learn indy. But use it as a tool. I stopped playing in around 2015 due to burn out. I came back in 2016 and left again in 2019 (am returning again. Last time it was due to pc not burn out). Next is PVP. If you dont enjoy it thats ok. But learn it. It will save you millions in the long run. It is such an important part of the game. And understand that pvp isnt just the gank fleet or faction warefare. Its also marketing and the battle of logistics.
    Good video.

Where's my mouse/trackball pointer? Is it supposed to be part of the game's challenge that you can't see your pointer? I had to use task manager to shut the 'game' down.
Can't move to monitor. On my 2-monitor desktop, the game shows up on my secondary (lower specs) monitor, and has no handles I've found to drag it over to monitor #1.

well, I enjoyed the game the few days i played it. but I'm probably going to look elsewhere again... i only wanted to do missions and enjoy the market from the "business" side of the game, since i heard this is one of the things this game is good at. so far its been a bit slow to say the least...
doing pvp right away seems like a terrible idea, i mean you should at least pve a bit until you are strong enough to do pvp without dying in one shot LOL... but i guess its just me (as that is my experience in other mmos with pvp, you never do it until you are strong enough not to die right away).
also, since the game is not single-player (solo) friendly, I'm gonna have to look back to other MMOs that are solo player friendly (yes, there are a lot. just cause it's an mmo doesn't mean they should ignore the fact that a lot of us like to play ON OUR OWN instead of forcing us to be in fleets 100% of the time, notice i said fleets not corps).
corps are the same as guilds in other MMOs, with their own unique benefits to this game. these types of guild systems are usually requirements regardless of if you play solo or not.
Most games have the option where you can stay in PVE zones or PVP zones, since anyone can get ganked anywhere in game it just tells me its a non-optional pvp game (means its pointless to try and build something that you can survive a pvp fight in, cause by the time you get strong you'll get killed and lose all your ship items before you can even be strong enough to fight back).
most of the people salty about this game complain about it being sub based, but since you can access it without paying make is "free 2 play" even though the F2P model is just a trial with limitations.
it was good while it lasted... i think games like Eve would benefit from learning from other MMOs but it seems like this is one of those MMOs where the playerbase has not played another MMO game... LOL

Yea Eve is a cool game! Been playing it as alpha and omega. Alpha alone was cool, However I feel that this game is a ripoff, all is so much planned and worked out just to make money. What it says on the tin is not the game. If you go back from omega to alpha, forget that you can train anymore. You reached your points.... what they never tells you. I do agree this is a very complex game and that is good! Lots of ppl here that would take you for a slave as well by stealing your mined ore while you consented to joining their fleet and their MTU will just steal your containers and take it for themselves and as a "new asshole" you cannot harm them and they know this very well! Most corps are crap and protection from them are crap as they make you their "lil new to steal from new bro" and tells you sorry this is the way to learn slave shit. Not to mention the how much worth your stuff is and you get nothing for selling it! I got tired of this crap and left! There is more bad ppl than good trying to help one learn the game and also full of the "know it all and brag assholes" how much better and how much more skilled they are! I can actually puke from it all!

I haven't long got back into Eve from putting it down after my first month from burnout. Right now sticking with the NPC corps, IAC, since I always feel that corps, like guilds/factions in other MMOs often require a certain amount of commitment, like guild v guild battles that you have to attend X times a month, or have to be on Y amount of hours a week and progress in levels or skills. Am I wrong with thinking EVE corps are similar? Inactivity without forewarning will get you kicked out presumably.

But now, I have the problem where I don't play for months at a time, in which I would and have been kicked out of corporations for being too inactive. It becomes a hassle to try and integrate yourself when you know you'll probably not see these people ever again.

In steam Turkey, i bought Witcher 3 GOTY for 3 USD. Euro Truck with all DLCs costs as much as 1.5 months of Eve. I paid for WOW for years, because i had access to the price, but eve's worldwide pricing hurts. It's just too much for some countries. Minimum wage is 370 USD/month here.
