    Iv always been under the impression you don't bend your leg. It's like an uchi Mata style swing of the leg where ideally you want to bring the leg up nice and high on the back swing too while leaning forward. Also closer hip contact

      of course you can bend the leg, why not, there's variations in every position or technique.
