My R1 45ACP had all of the same issues you experienced. I polished the feed ramp and substituted for a 20lb recoil spring, and now it shoots like a dream. Thanks for the video.

I bought an R1S, stainless steel, when they first came out. I haven't had any problems with it. No complaints, love the gun.

Thanks for your post. I've had my Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced in 45 ACP for a couple of years. I'm very pleased with it. Mine holds 8+1 rounds.

Remington does make a decent factory grade 1911. Thank you for sharing!

This is a really good review of the R1. I bought the stainless one not too long after Remington started making 1911s again. Since then I've worked my way up the 1911 ladder to more expensive ones, but I still have the stainless R1 and love shooting it any chance I get.

    Great review!
    Welcome to the 1911 family.
The best test for a new M1911 is to shake it. If it rattles, it will run just fine.
The next test is to rack the slide on an empty magazine. If the slide does not lock, discard the magazine.
The only M1911 I own that does not work is an heirloom Colt Lightweight Commander Model of 1950.
It survived a barracks fire in Korea and was dug out of the ashes.
    Can't blame Colt for that!

Friend-o-mine has had one since they first came out. No issues. Runs as good as my '72 Colt Combat Commander - which has always been flawless.
Key: We always run basic 230gr FMJ, not any type of squared off bullet. Some of our buds have modified 1911's and try running all different bullet types,. and are fussing with their guns a lot. Not my factory Colt, or that R1.
There is no such thing as a copper or lead bullet "breaking-in" a hardened feed ramp. Feed issues with any 1911 type are almost always traceable to the magazine control lips and/or the spring. The lips can break -in, resulting in better performance, but the ramp will need thousands of rounds to change its slickness. Polishing doesn't hurt, but doesn't necessarily help much either.
Sharper, shorter bullets can benefit from a polished ramp or one that is relieved at the top where the ramp meets the lower edge of the chamber to create a more gradual entrance.

Get you some Wilson combat mags for it I had trouble with my factory mags with mine. And that gun shoots as good as any other 1911 on the market.

I had similar problems up to 400 rounds. Then I sent it to Remington for their "Platinum Service" (included with the gun - send it to the factory within the first 12 months after purchase, with any complaints - they paid freight both ways) and got back a completely tuned gun. It is remarkably accurate and I stopped counting after 3500 rounds with not a single malfunction after it was returned. It may not be the most expensive but I doubt any are more accurate. Happy camper.

Love my R1. Nothing upgraded, but changed the grip panels. I just made my furthest shot on target at 60 yards 2 days ago. Never have a problem. Outshoots my buddies SIG all day sadly.

I have the same pistol and had feeding issues until I replaced the recoil spring from 16lbs to an 18lbs spring. I went with a flat wire recoil spring instead of the traditional round wire spring and in an honesty say that the pistol shoots excellent now.
I much prefer this American made Remington than the Philippines rock Island

I have 2, one is stainless, the other is blue, bought both new. I had one jam on the 1st or 2nd magazine with the stainless, no jams on the blue. Had the loose screw issue, fixed with blue locktite. They are a joy to shoot but I would recommend the stainless because of the rust issue with the blue. I would get the blue one parkerized if I knew of someone who does that work.

Mine ranfmj ammo ok. Didn't like jhp. I polished feed ramp
A little better. Got kimber promags, better still. Read ww2 army booklet about 1911s and it stresses keep it clean and LUBED. Talked to vet from Korean War and he said he kept his 1011 lubed with a mix of diesel fuel and motor oil. Would put mix on with fiinger. He never had any issues and yes, he did use it in combat. Wouldn elaborate. Iput rem oil on sliding parts and ain't had no problems with any ammo using kimber mags. Took 1 Remington mag apart. Cut 1/2 loop from mag spring using drimel tool. Seemed like rem mags had more pressure pushing up on rounds than kimbet mags. Now that Remington mags works great. Funny thing. Bought m&p shield 45acp and it runs any ammo, any mixed up configuration any bullet weight. Never had problems out the box after 235 rounds. Have put about 375 rounds through Remington R1 1911 45acp.

I had the grips on my Colt 1911 come loose after shooting it the first time. Probably weren’t locktited like your gun wasn’t either. Lok grips sells O-rings that I used on some wood grips on a CZ. Haven’t come loose yet!
