King Frederik X Crowned King of Denmark: Ceremony Highlights

- Denmark has a ‘proclamation’ ceremony for a new monarch rather than a coronation. But Denmark still enjoyed a day full of pomp and circumstance as Queen Margrethe II handed the reins to King Frederik X.
Queen Margrethe II travelled from her residence at the Amalienborg Palace to the Christiansborg Palace. The monarch was escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment. Thousands of well-wishers filled the streets of Copenhagen.
Queen Margrethe’s son Frederik arrived at the palace by car. Once inside Queen Margrethe signed a declaration of abdication, transferring the crown to Frederik.
Afterwards, King Frederik X was proclaimed king by the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen from the balcony. The new king was then joined by his Australian wife Queen Mary and his children Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
The royal family then returned to the Amalienborg Palace, passing by thousands of adoring fans. The King and his family made one last balcony appearance, before retiring into the palace.
But Danish royal fans partied on into the evening, enjoying a fireworks display at Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens.
The next day King Frederik X and Queen Mary arrived at the Danish parliament for their first official engagement. The former queen Margrethe was also in attendance.

Such a lovely family. I especially love how the King and Queen showed affection towards each other.
Like normal people, unlike the uptight British royals 🙄
@@Ker-mk3bf British royals are ULTRA ORTHODOX conservative. People like to know royals are human.
@@Piping-Hot-Lava441Yeah, but he is still very different. He's not as rebellious as Harry. But he gets that behavior from his father who was very outspoken about his dissatisfaction that he could not be made King Consort.
@@Piping-Hot-Lava441 well, he was very clear, that his frustration was, that he wasn’t his wife’s equal. He kept using examples from Scotland and Spain, saying that their Queen Regnants made their husband’s King Consorts. And he was a firm believer that Queen Margrethe could make him a King if she wanted to. But fact is, she couldn’t. While the Danish monarch is the one person who can grant and take away titles, yes, there is one major problem in the way in Denmark, when it comes to Queen Regnants granting their husband the title of King, which Prince Henrik either chose to overlook or never really understood.. And that problem is the Danish Constitution. It says outright, that no one can be above the King in title or rank. When the Danish Constitution was amended in 1953 to include female succession, the Danish politicians seemed to forget, that the then 13 year old Princess Margrethe would one day get married. She is the first Queen Regnant in Danish history, so there wasn’t any precedence for what a Queen Regnant’s husband should be called. So when they did marry, the politicians decided to copy Prince Phillip’s situation in the UK. Something Prince Henrik was never very satisfied with. But the problem is, even though everyone would know that Queen Margrethe was the monarch, in the eyes of Denmark’s highest law, if Prince Henrik were to be named King, he would be above his wife in rank and title. You may then ask, why not just amend the Constitution again? Well the truth is, that amending the Danish Constitution is a nightmare process. There have only been made five amendments and another amendment to the succession act in 2009 that removed the male primogeniture, since the implementation of the Constitiution in 1849. And it wouldn’t just take a simple little wording change to change that.
@@Piping-Hot-Lava441 yes. Denmark was an Elective Monarchy for 700 years, where the nobility did not want to elect a female monarch. Margrete the I is the only one who came close, but she was never recognized as a monarch in her lifetime. Her legacy wasn’t truly recognized, until Queen Margrethe came to the throne in 1972 and she took the Regnal name Margrethe the II, to honor her namesake’s legacy.
In 1660, King Frederik the III remade the monarchy to an Absolute Hereditary Monarchy, and by law barred women from inheriting the throne. Even though the Absolute monarchy was abolished in 1848, women were still barred from inheriting the throne until the Constitutional Amendment in 1953.
Yes. She abdicated this Sunday. Breaking the record of 900 years since the last Danish monarch voluntarily abdicated, and 500 years since the last involuntary abdication. She is also the longest reigning monarch. While King Christian the IV was King for 59 years and 11 months, he was 11 years old when he became King in 1588 and wasn’t crowned until 1596. So as the reigning monarch she holds the record, but as the named monarch, he still holds that record.
What an blessing it is for Queen Margrethe to witness her son and daughter-in-law becoming King and Queen!
Ich freue mich so für das Dänische Volk mit ihrem Königshaus.Ein Hoch auf S.M König Frederic und I.M.Königin Marie con Dänemark und dem ganzen Dänischen Volk.Viele Grüsse aus Bayern.

The Proclamation Ceremony of King Frederick X of Denmark was an event of great emotion, and a great demonstration of support and applause from the Danish people for their new Monarchs, King Frederik X and Queen Mary , Danish people , who , have also well expressed his admiration and gratitude to his previous Monarch , Queen Margaret II.
The huge crowd that attended the various Palaces where the King, Queen , and their Family , appeared was truly impressive, having King and Queen, in all situations , being highly applauded.
The attitude of Queen Margarethe and of Prince Frederik at the time of the transfer of Power was a great demonstration of sensitivity, elegance and respect, and simultaneously an adequate aristocratic posture, between the Mother, Queen Margarethe, and her son , the King to be , Frederik X.

@JJMedusa As a Dane interested in history and HONEST REPORTING, I find it much worse, that the only ACTUAL OFFICIAL CEREMONIAL PART performed on that balkony was not even shown in this video!!! Our PM called out 3 times "Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the 2. has abdicated. Long live His Majesty King Frederik the 10th". THAT was the ONLY official part ( dating back centuries ), and they CHOSE to leave that out!?!? Everything after the PM left was only an "extra" for the crowd there, not an official part of the ceremony. No wonder so many from foreign lands see this as a tabloid level Royal Family event with this kind of coverage. So much symbolism from those two days was lost on many.

Vermont? Please say hello to Sanders, if you happen to meet him! He always speaks fondly of the Nordic countries. Don't know, if he was ever here? But I DO know, that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was here in 2019. As a speaker at a Climate Forum our then Crown Prince couple were Protectors of. They held a Royal Dinner for the participants, and AOC was seated in a prominent position at the table with Mary, who is now our Queen Mary of Danmark. Both Frederik and Mary have been more outspoken about climate issues, than Margrethe was. In line with our governments positions obviously, but more outspoken.

Just wondering, was there any type of ceremony with pageantry and crowns, etc, similar to what we recently saw with the UK coronation of King Charles? So far all I’ve been able to find in videos is them going on the balcony.
Congratulations king federik
As said at the beginning, it's a proclamation, not a Coronation. So King Frederik was not crowned. Do you bother watching your own videos before writing the headline?

Did i miss it or does Mary not have to curtsy to queen Margrethe any longer? Or do they not curtsy at all? Seem like such a lovely family. Who's the man king Fredrik hugged?
It was his brother Prince Joachim. And no, Mary does not have to curtsy to Margrethe anymore. Formally Mary is above Margrethe now. Margrethe is still Queen Margrethe. But Mary is now THE Queen of Danmark. Dronning Mary af Danmark. ------ On a sidenote, the six Royals who were invited to our Parliament on day two of the transition were the ones, who can act as Head of State of Danmark. King Frederik, Crown Prince Christian, Queen Mary, Queen Margrethe, Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte ( the sister of Margrethe ).
You are man ! You are human ! Thank for Palestine flaq !!❤❤
The King was not crowned. No coronation, just accession ceremonies. But very well done.

After his first 100 days as king, he had 19 jobs to do. I guess he now need a vacation 😛😂
Did anyone notice the younger son throwing attitude walking back inside with his waving?
Yes. 😂
@@hlondon24O8- It was indeed a emotional moment for the children: Their elder had become Crown Prince, and most important: Their parents are now King and Queen of Denmark. For a 13 year it is huge and very difficult to understand. They are, one can imagine, perhaps worried about their future. Will the press hunt them whereever they go? What about their mates in school? I really felt warmth, when I saw Princess Josephine, and thought: "Don´t worry, Princess. Everything is and will be all right!"
I wish him the best from America, despite my being unfamiliar with Danish politics.
They are royals, but have no real say in how the country is run, the parliament of elected officials do that 😉
He wasn’t crowned, you know. Nor was Margrethe or her father. In fact, none of the Scandinavian countries have kept the coronation as a ritual to mark the investiture of a new monarch.
Bueno , me encanta saber de la realeza en general, pero sinceramente no entiendo bien cuál su función 🤔
Well each country/kingdom is a little different, too
I'm glad his younger brother was there, hopefully whatever differences there were in the family have been repaired.
Is Queen Margarethe still called Queen or Queen Mother, as the British say. I'm from USA, don't know the titles and I do NOT mean to offend anyone in Denmark. I'm just genuinely curious.
Queen Margrethe is a queen now, not the queen. And Queen Mother is title for previous queen consort who also mother of the reigning monarch. Queen Margrethe isn't queen consort, but queen regnant, so she can't be queen mother.
