- Kero Kero Bonito's theme song for Bugsnax is wonderful and iconic... and when we first heard it, we didn't even realize that it was actually revealing the entire plot of the game.
Thanks SO MUCH for giving this little video essay any attention at all. I worked so hard on it. I realize that the audience for this video is HILARIOUSLY small, but if you're a massive Bugsnax fan like I am, I really hope you enjoy it. Let me know in the comments!

I didn't realize it was foreshadowing until someone told me, because I am very dumb.
Another thing is the seemingly throwaway line "Everyone's talkin' 'bout Bugsnax" as the song draws to a close. It's explained in game that the island addicts its victims to the Bugsnax and hooks them onto the parasite even if they don't want to consume them; it's the only thing they can think about it. In other words: Everyone's talking about Bugsnax.

its even heavily implied that the reason why Bugsnax mess with crops is because they dont want people on the island to have access to any other food. Hunger will inevitably lead to the consumption of one parasite, and even if you wanna stay clean of them, after a while hunger will be so massive you will not stop thinking about them.
Theres also the line "a Tasty quest to fill the hole that many feel inside Thier Soul" tells you that you need help the Grumpuses with Thier issues so they don't quite literally eat themselves to death.
@@Geomaster97 I love how the song directly states that, on Snaktooth, they went looking for a way to improve their life, but instead they found a way to fill that same hole with something else.
Id keep them as pets like gramble
Can we talk about how we're literally starving to death over the course of the game because we can't eat bugsnax but there's no other food on the island?
I think you can choose a dialogue option near the end of the game when interviewing Eggabell that you have been surviving on sauce when she's shocked to hear you are allergic to bugsnax. Not exactly nourishing but, it's something.
Peanut butter, hot sauce, ketchup, cheese, chocolate sauce & ranch: *are we a joke to you?*
you'd be shocked how calorically dense peanut butter is tbh, it might not be the healthiest thing but you won't die of starvation. though you will likely suffer a number of vitamin deficiencies. you might not starve but you will probably contract scurvy.
You're character eats Sauce like Shelda and Gramble, it's not revealed until you interview Eggabell in the update, after beating her quest but before entering the final act, wherein you can't catch/feed others Bugsnax anymore
@@rexcake that’s what the ketchup is for. And besides, peanut butter is poly and monounsaturated fats, so relatively healthy.
I love this type of foreshadowing where it’s so obvious after the secret is revealed. But it was placed so well you didn’t notice until it was almost too late. It’s like how Doki Doki means a heartbeat increase of fear in ddlc.
Don’t forget about how omori did pretty much the same thing
a similar example is in the themesong of the classic show, the prisoner.

Doki-doki isn't really connected to fear; it's just the onomatopoeia for a heartbeat, like how America has pitter-patter and ba-thump and the like. Using doki-doki as an adjective (ie "my heart is all _'doki-doki'!")_ is a poetic way of saying you're nervous, excited, or otherwise riled up, just like if you said "my heart's all a-flutter!" or "my heart is pounding!'

Well omori comes from the word hikikomori. Hikikomori means _“A form of severe social withdrawal.” -Google_
I’m not sure if this line is intentional, but I also think “We are whatever we eat” could be a spoiler.
It’s a very fitting pun on their transformative properties, but it could also be in reference to their origins.
We learn that the Bugsnax are made up from Grumpuses that became consumed, so in a way, Bugsnax are Grumpuses.
We are Grumpuses, and we eat Grumpuses.
That feels like the most deliberate part
Well, bugsnax are parasites so it's more so a reference into the host slowly turning into bugsnax themselves
I guess we _are_ whatever we eat.

i like that "we are what we eat" is completely iteral, but at the same time a double, if not triple meaning. yes, you transform into the food, but it goes both ways in that the bugsnax are eating the grumpuses right back, turning them into more bugsnax. so the line could be from their perspective. and THEN, as paulrecall said, there's the themes of cannibalism, both directly and indirectly
Also, isn’t every bugsnax a grumpus from ages ago? Technically, that means that you are eating what you are. A grumpus.

Actually, it went from its to it's. "Its" is the possessive of "it," while "it's" is a contraction of "it is." Apostrophes are almost exclusively used for contractions; the only exceptions are when they're tailing proper nouns (usually people), which morphs both parts into a single possessive. Your comment basically just repeated the same phrase twice, with one being contracted and the other not.

I was sick this past weekend and it was added to Gamepass relatively recently so I was like: why not? I remember it being bright, colorful and intriguing, so I'll play through the story.
I ended up 100%ing it in about 3-4 days and I'm obsessed!

Yeah, same. Wasn't expecting much really, then got hooked, played for 3-4 days consecutively and got 100% (platinum trophy) on Ps5. Fed all Grumpuses to the maximum, caught every existing bugsnax for Gramble (including the Cappucceetle and all bosses), got all hats, done all side quests, finished the DLC, and I regret NOTHING.

I have a personal passion project of mine that includes the concept of parasites that take over a body (in my case, the animal life on earth.) And when my dad asked what one of my inspirations was, i had to admit it was bugsnax, ive always loved the concept of parasites and bugsnax pushed me to write my own. Gotta love those evil little snackies

@TheArtisticDragonStudio nothing i wanna share tooo many details on, but basically earth attempts to derail a meteors path by firing at it and ends up shooting a dormant alien mother who rains her parasite babies onto earth, parasites latch to the animals and mutate them into meat eating sparkle abominations, like sparkle furries but evil

I love how the picture even spoils it in a cute way.
The hat to give the overall strawberry shape, the blush and freckles are analogs for the red strawberry flesh and seeds. Even the shoulder length hair looks like the leaf legs of the Strabby. It's great.

I thought it was going to be way worse though. I thought everyone in the camp would turn into Bugsnax one by one, until you're the only one left.

I just finished the game and the roller coaster of emotions between happy me telling my brother about how cute the game was and jamming to the theme to the next day me sobbing because of the ending and jamming to the theme
I just finished the game and got all the bugsnax including the cappucceetle and by God the vibes were there
I just realized the 2nd line of the chorus is a double meaning because it's obviously referring to trapping them in your snak traps but a different way to tell someone to shut up is to "shut your trap"

I finished the game awhile ago, and has now become my favorite game. The gameplay is amazing, that characters are amazing and the music is fantastic.

A great aspect of that last line is, if you're just listening without reading, there's a bit of ambiguity there.
You could read it as:
"Come to Snaktooth Island and discover. It's Bugsnax!"
And it sounds like it's talking about the game itself.
You could also read it as:
"Come to Snaktooth Island and discover its Bugsnax!"
With this interpretation, you're discovering the Bugsnax that live on the island.
But then you learn the twist:
"Come to Snaktooth Island and discover, it's Bugsnax!"
As in, the island is composed of Bugsnax.
