No other site mentioned it was toxic. Thanks for that. I have been worrying over my pearls and was getting rot on top and found it is way too wet for I completely repotted her and she now looks happier. Now I feel it has a chance
No worries at all! Yes that's so common with these plants - I've killed a string of pearls before by accidentally overwatering. Nowadays it's actually one of my lowest maintenance plants and only gets watered every couple of weeks and is doing amazingly 💚
I got my first String of Pearls last month & she is acclimating but finding the best position is a challenge. I’m ok with leaving plants in nursery pots for a long while but I find they’ve often used the wrong soil mix. So now I have to replace it with correct potting mix sooner than later. Thanks for your info
Thank you so very much for this highly informative presentation. I absolutely love String of Pearls and they are now very hard to find in the stores. I’ve been searching a long time for another one of these plants and I just found 4 full ones that I purchased for $100 from a private seller and am very hopeful I can get them to thrive this time around. I appreciate that you shared your knowledge about these beautiful plants. I listened to every single word. Tyvm P.S. I like your doggie 🤍
Absolutely awesome Channel Claire. Your content is so full of information and love your style of presenting, Waiting for the Spring now, so I can start planting😀🌻🌺🌸. Keep up the good work and "wink" to Joli
Great video! I love your plant collection in the background. Your pearls are beautiful! I've had a love hate relationship with this plant for sure lol. Giving it a go again, wish me luck 😁 Thanks for sharing
Great video and very informative! I noticed your pearls are very big in size, as in each individual pearl itself. My VSOP is nice and full but the pearls are quite tiny. Can you offer any advice as to what I could do to increase it's size?
If you use cactus soil and drench it. The water will flush or go through quickly. So would watering weekly be good enough? Wouldn't the moisture meter read dry after a week because water is not sitting in pot? Using a terra cotto pot as well.
Everytime I hear "bright indirect" light, I think it wants to be able to look out the window but not actually in sunlight. 😁 I have several plants like this.
my home gets awful sunlight. so i just recently relocated all my pearls to a shelf with a grow light. i cannot find anything regarding spacing or if this will even be affective. do you think they will do well? and how strong of a light/distance from the light thanks so much for all your info!!!
Elllo Claire!!🎉 What should I do about the nodes?!? I recently potted some cuttings my friend gave me but the nodes are super long. I read that you should cover them with soil. But then you said your video they hate sitting in soggy soil so should i just worry abt them?
Just found your channel and I love it! I just bought a SOP 2 weeks ago and haven’t watered it cause it looks plump and happy but the soil is dry. Should I wait? It seems happy so far where it is but I’m scared to kill her lol
If a stretch of vine has lost some leaves will they grow back? I'm not sure whether to propagate the ends and replant them in the pot or leave it and wait til spring - if they'll grow back 🌱 Thanks!
so ive noticed little baby string of pearls will shrivel if the roots have been damaged.. i have a toddler and she loves plants as much as i do and sometimes pulls them out of the soil and esencially damaging the roots i heal the root in a ramiken with lava rocks for oxygenated water. every single Time it works
could you please offer some advice to me regarding saving mine? I have done very well for so long and my pearls are very happy and lush. However, I recently had my first experience with mealy bugs. on one of my plants, I used neem oil but then heard the horror stories and have been trying to wash it off with soapy alcohol water(alcohol completely safe forsucculents) but it is NOT washing off the neem oil. Is my plant ok? The other plant, I killed the bugs with the alcohol water but since I had recently watered it and then had to flush it for a couple days tp clean away the dead mealies, I am having random rotted fluid-filled pearls in random spots such as a healthy strand or just on top. How can I fix both of these plants? Like I said, I have had them forever and they have always done amazing but now, the biggest one has neem oil on it. It wont come off and the other one has had way to much water. HELP!
I wouldn't stress too much about the neem oil - it'll go gradually over time but just make sure to keep your plant out of direct sun. I've found rubbing alcohol and a systemic pest treatment such as provanto to be the best for mealybugs, but be careful not to get any alcohol in the soil and perhaps consider a repot if you suspect there might be bugs in the soil 💚
Hello again! Update, my pearls are doing great. BUT, I just noticed that the stems of my pearls(strings) are getting so thin they are like fishing line. Why is this, can I correct it, and what to prevent it. Also, there is white fuzzy mold on my soil and these things are so delicate to repot. Organic ways other than cinnamon to kill the mold? HELP!
Hi I just had a string of pearls and my questio is...why the leaves are tiny, is there something i can do to help to get bigger? Thank you for you reply.
This my be a silly question. If one of the pearls bursts while handling the plant and it gets on your hands. Is just washing your hands really well ok?
If you're just losing pearls at the top of the pot then it sounds like you might have accidentally overwatered. I'd recommend checking the roots ASAP and potentially taking some cuttings to pot back into the pot to make it lovely and full again 💚
@@deea8897 @Dee A Oh I see! So the actual pearls unfortunately won't root, but if you take some cuttings from the strings themselves and plant them straight back into the top of the soil it will help your plant to look fuller again 💚
@@Layeredworld… I have had individual little pearls that have rooted. I place the balls into soil so the little sliver is up and showing because that is there they absorb sunlight. Keep the soil slightly moist at all times until it roots.
I see that you have dog and cat, and snake plants and string of pearls. I find information mentioning that these plants are toxic to pets. How do you keep your pets from consuming these plants? Thank you very much.
You're right, these plants are toxic. I'm very lucky that my animals have never paid any attention to my plants, but if they did I would definitely be sure to keep any poisonous plants up high and out of reach. Most pets will come into contact with toxic plants on a daily basis (in the garden/on walks etc) and have the sense not to eat them, but it's always better to be safe than sorry if you're in any doubt 💚
My cat ate some of mine and got really sick. He was totally lethargic. Big vet bill and some comfort care later, he fully recovered! My SOP lives at work now, in my office.

I saw a big string of pearls today and bought it because of you!
Ooooh yay so exciting!
Thank you so much. I received a string of pearl as a gift and had no idea how to care for it.
Have a blessed day.
I’m guilty of over watering. Learnt a lot from your video. Hope my string of pearls will be happier this summer 😁
Nice video. I got my first string a pearls today so this information is very helpful.
I'm really glad it was useful 💚

love the video! very helpful, all the way from Florida USA
Brilliant, many thanks, so useful
So helpful!!
Excellent video full of valuable information. I would love to know the best way to propagate String of Pearls. Thank you.
Just cut it (make sure you include at least one root node) and put it in damp, well-draining cactus/succulent soil with perlites 😊

Thanks for such an insightful video! May I know how to care for cutting propagation in water? Wouldn't they rot for prolonged submersion in water?
You should switch the water once a week and they'll be fine

My string of pearls has 2 blooms…I didn’t know they bloom! Does that mean it’s a happy plant?

I got one from the store that is over watered. It has mold growing on the dirt. I have to re pot it

Yes this can happen so easily! Bless her heart, and great you've found a way to save them 😂
Also is it better to plant in a smaller pot. I'm asking because I put mine in a coconut mesh basket well that harm my plant

Hi can i please get the fertilizer that you make for the string of pearls thank you
Finally after watching like hours of your videos I hit subscribe lol

Great help, lady 👍
Thank you, I'm really glad it helped 💚
Is it advisable to bottom water variegated string of pearls?
Sorry, I did not see the link to where you describe the homemade fertilizer.
I'm looking at a place to purchase string of pearls along with string of tyrtles
What conditions do they need while propagating? I have mine in a green house with 70% humidity, is that ok?
This my be a silly question. If one of the pearls bursts while handling the plant and it gets on your hands. Is just washing your hands really well ok?

How to propagate please!
Do they grow out of the pearls, I just got new plant and couple of pearls fell off making it look bald, any methods to successfully propagate pearls

I wasn't aware, I overwatered the newly bought plant, a lot of the healthy beads bursted 😢
