Haven’t heard this soundtrack in over 20 years but I still am humming to every beat of this music like I’ve never forgotten. This game got me hooked on RTS for life.
Same. Started with genesis, rented it so much from blockbuster that the dude gave it to my mom and I because no one ever asked for it while it was rented to me and he wanted to make shelf space for new games. Then went on to dune 2000 FUCK yes!
15:12 HOURS AND HOURS OF Yes sir ! Acknowledged. Movin' out ! « Enemy units, approaching. » « Base under attack... » « DEATH HAND ! approaching... » etc.
Frank Klepacki is a legend. Note that on some genesis models this music was slower. And on Frank Klepacki music collection this tracks are also slower. Seems like cpu frequencies differ. For example here ua-cam.com/users/view_play_list?p=956899B75CB7C6C7 This music speed was on my console as well.
12:27 it's the moments like this that make me appreciate the playback on the real hardware, as opposed to emulated stuff. In that section you can almost hear the distant electric guitar riffing away in the background (although it might just be some residual echo / sound distortion - I certainly haven't heard anything like that when playing the vgz track through inVGM plugin)
Evasive Action sounds so much like the OSTof DnD: Warriors of the Eternal Sun that I suspect a connection between the two games. I check and, yep, same composers. I cannot wait for a proper recording of the latter sound track!
Even more better than Dune 2 ^^ Like a game universe inside the music ^^ This music blows my mind without spice ^^ They need to build some kind of monument for Frank Klepacki ^^
The only thing that would be 8 bits would be the PCM samples, the rest (FM and PSG) cannot be put somewhere, under that logic almost all SNES music is 8 bits because the samples are 8 bits, I know that many interpret the NES, Master System and even PCE synthesizers as "8-bits", but in reality they do not exactly handle 8-bit instructions, it is wrong to say that NES music is 8-bits but no one has questioned that, nor those who really know audio.
I played the living crap out of this game as a kid in the 90s, and I always thought it hilarious that the image on the front was just a couple edited AH64's and some US troops lol
+DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL No surprise there. Dune: The Battle for Arrakis also known as Dune II: Battle for Arrakis is one of Sega Genesis / Mega Drive hits and is easily gets in top 5 best games on the platform.
+DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL I believe this was the worlds first RTS game. Its the great great grand parent of games like Star Craft, Age of Empires and Empire Earth.
You tell me what the hell with this cover this don't look anything from the movie 1980 Dune but the music is great and the game, not a real military soldier and the chopper that bull
"...you must conquer forces both human and inhuman in savage battles..." the only inhuman force in the game is the shai-hulud, and you're really not supposed to beat it. But some 90s marketing guy somewhere needed to make the game sell, so here we are.
+Sensali7 Yeah a helicopter is sorta lame compared to the units actually in the game. Artist must not have gotten the memo. Probably heard "we need a war in the desert" and came up with that.
@@alexhunter6127 It's supposed to be but maybe the artist should have worked for free or read the first book for reference. The "thopters" in Dune are even mentioned near the beginning . They're mentioned almost right after Paul arrives on Arrakis. The description wouldn't be hard to find at all. Even a low paid\effort artist should know about the material.
Considering the blades above the vehicle are at a V angle and the craft is purple, I think it's actually supposed to be one of the Emperor's Ornithopter units from the game. They probably got a bit lazy and used an Apache chassis and tweaked the position of the blades rather than build their own model just for a cover.
This just brought back my college days with buddies! I can hear the action in my head... "reporting." shck "acknowledged." shck "movin' out!" shck. "construction complete" boom "aaaahhhh"
For a second I thought he said DUDE! The battle for Arrakis! I never heard this OST before (only played this game on PC), but I like what I am hearing.
Absolutely unforgattable impressions! What were the hours, spent playing Dune... The first notes of 00:00 presents me the wonderful memories from my childhood... The "Credit Roll" is fine and beatiful also... and worth being heard often.
this gives me goosebumps. I remember then I got my Genesis in 1994 and didnt understand the concept of this game (was 8 years old). But always observed my big brother playing it. and enjoyed the music as much as I do now.
And what about game music....Only a few games have OST what deffinetly not looks like 8 or 16 bit. 1) Journey to Silius. 2) Contra the hard corps. 3) Dune TBFA. 4) Comix Zone. 5) The Terminator. 6) Batman. 7) The lost world: Jurrasic park This 7 games have to awesome for 8-16 bit games sound.
ehh I dont this its ma-13 by vrc aka rated t for teen by esrb is it but im thinking the game is either ma-17 by vrc aka mature 17 by esrb or ao 18 (please note that vrc is limited to 3 rates of above besides ma-18 which is ao 18 by esrb since manhunt 2 by Rockstar company or take two games received an adults only rating in America and the other rest of the countries as well before it was banned in united kingdom.)
What I loved about this game before I had ever played it is that the box art has absolutely nothing at all to do with Dune. It appears that this one was purchased after the Rating System came into being, as mine doesn't have the MA-13 on it.
Dustin, I don't want to be that guy, but I've looked everywhere else, and have only found the PAL version of the soundtrack... is it possible you can upload this RIP for download?

This music speed was on my console as well.
Which speed do you think it is the one intended by the audio designer?
12:27 it's the moments like this that make me appreciate the playback on the real hardware, as opposed to emulated stuff.

I'm also hearing some foreshadowing to Phantasy Star 4's OST.
Even more better than Dune 2 ^^ Like a game universe inside the music ^^ This music blows my mind without spice ^^

This game had very good music for like 8 bit sounds.
Nope it's FM synth yamaha signature

If you can get your hands on these files, this soundtrack sounds the best slowed down by 10% or custom x.9 speed here on youtube.

uh is the spice trip hook the same as the new smashing pumpkins return to faith??
❤❤❤😊
I kinda prefer the German version that goes DUNE: KAMPF UM DEN WÜSTENPLANETEN.
Божественно. Именно то что я искал. Спасибо.
I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not... but I always thought this version was superior to the DOS original, especially the soundtrack.

the ost is just amazing, unbelievable how they achieved epic sounding melodies with what they had.

Yes but no. I prefer the slower version in 50Hz - it was sounded more groovy. Hah, that apache helicopter on the cover art ...Mega LOL)))))
Woah!! That voice in the opening was so clear! That's incredible!
If GEMS was far superior to Japanese sound drivers in anything, it was in PCM sample reproduction.
34:47 The composer must have had fun with the sound effects on this track.
The Composer of this Game is called Frank Klepacki one of my favorite Composer you should check out his other works
I did a MD/GEN cover of Command Post using all channels and sampled drums if anyone's interested.
+Alianger It's good!

Turbulence = Rise of Harkonnen riff from Dune 2000 :V
DUNE: THE BATTLE FOR ARRAKIS
*Jams Intensify*
fingers crossed they recycle this OST for the latest adaptation.
ive always wondered why an apache was on the game cover when everything else is so futuristic lol
+Sensali7 Yeah a helicopter is sorta lame compared to the units actually in the game. Artist must not have gotten the memo. Probably heard "we need a war in the desert" and came up with that.
I wouldn't put it past them, but if you look, the rotors are going up/down, not circular, so I think that's pretending to be an ornithopter.
@Dave Hanson Looks like a Desert Strike cover that didn't get used lol.

Command Post the best. although this sounds quite sped up, not as I remember

Turbulence is my favorite track.
Spice trip is rise of the harkonen from dune 2000. .and Turbulance is Dune 2000 - Under Construction.

There was also an RPG on the Sega CD, by Cryo.
Is there anyway to play the sega version on pc??? Not the Dune II one the actual sega one… still have my sega and dune but I’d love it on pc
Emulator of Sega.
Kega Fusion for example.
It supports Sega CD, Master System ,Genesis (MD), Saturn and 32x games.
