The nice thing about Gossip Stones not existing in ALTTP is you can make up any reason why they're not around. I think Ganon ate 'em. Look. You just became a pig beast, had your greatest victory, and are now the unquestioned king of the land - you're gonna be hungry, and sentient stones made by the Goddess just might be exactly the thing to sate that hunger before the sages throw you in a hole for centuries.
I am now thoroughly educated regarding gossip stones. Thank you. I admit that I have called them "Boing-oings" for years, because "Phantom Hourglass" was the first place I encountered them.
Its worth considering, the Gossip Stones only say time remaining. While that perfectly lines up mechanically with the fall of the moon and end of a cycle, but remember that the cycle and the time that the moon is set to land is likely purposefully matched to the eve of the carnival. EVERYTHING in Clocktown revolves around time and especially the the start of the festival. The clocktower opens at midnight in an event mirroring the ball dropping at new year, and EVERYONE is preoccupied with getting their preparations for the celebration done. So its very likely that the Gossip Stones in Termina are not the twisted recreation of Skull Kid recontextualizing a royal symbol into a taunt for the possibly dead hero supporting whatever wild pocket dimension theory some people (and publishing companies) tout, but instead just a Terminian repurposing of Hylian technology to tell the time and play automated messages about upcoming events... Actually that might imply that IF there were previous tensions between Hyrule and Termina... that Hyrule is now spying on them with back door Sheikah surveillance equipment... shit dude.
I am so glad I found your account! I watched the dragon one and couldn’t find anything online about it because I was so curious about who the others could be! I’m glad you’re covering these topics!
Here's something that I noticed once, along with my personal theory. In Breath of the Wild, King Rhoam describes the Guardians as free-willed machines that were taken over by Ganon. Gossip stones have always seemed free-willed to me, or at least sentient. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Guardians are upgraded war gossip stones (although that would be really cool,) but I also wouldn't be surprised if they were created with the same technology!
I have a very simple way that I reconcile inconsistencies for all the games, especially when it comes to appearances, geography, etc: The games are all just artistic and stylized representations of history and legends within Hyrule. Not just in the literal real world sense that they are literal video games, but at a canonical level. They represent events that really happened in the Zelda world, but details are forgotten, fabricated, or simply glossed over as a result of millennia of oral tradition. In a similar way, the exact location of Kakariko Village with respect to Hyrule Castle is inconsistent because its physical location in the world isn't as important as its role as a recognizable and recurring symbol within the legends of the heroes.
Great explanation of Gossip Stones and my favorite LOZ subject is Sheikah because they're like ninjas accomplishing missions to obtain peace by any means.
I dunno man I had alot fun beating Triforce Heroes with my mates... But ether way this was still a great video with superb editing. Gonna go check out you're other ones next.
to me, the reason the gossip stones in phantom hourglass atleast look different is because they're in the realm of the ocean king, so presumably are tied to him somehow instead of the standard stones having a connection to the shiekah and hylia (and we know oshus loves his facial hair, so that would explain their wicked stache)
In all the games with gossip stones the Sheikah are all but nonexistent. Besides Impa, there’s no true Sheikah left from what we can see. What if the Sheikah stones are sentient because they mark where a Sheikah died in service to Hylia? Their sacrifice is rewarded with being able to continue their existence, albeit in a reduced capacity, and because of their dedication they continue to help the hero whenever he is in need. This could also have evolved into the shrines in BOTW, which is why we don’t see them there.
What if the gossip stones just speak whatever language Link understands best, and that just ends up being a language that the goron from skyward sword doesn't understand.
Gorko is a scholarly lad, I'm sure he's able to pick up on Hylian languages, plus, he's speaking to Link so he can definitely understand Link's most preferred language. Unless Link's ancestral heritage dating back to ancient times allows him to decipher Ancient Hylian, perhaps?
@@GossipGeist how would Gorko know the language of the skyward sword humans if they have been in the sky for so long none of them knew they were ever once on the ground and maybe Fi acts as a translater.
my take is just that the Sheikah made the Gossip Stone to communicate information like a walkie talkie or rather a hidden Radio Outpost. why do they disappear? numerous calamities causing technological regression as the Sheikah are forced to relocate time and time again + no maintenance. in Twilight Princess the hole is likely as they decommissioned them, the mission was over; Ganondorf was slain and vanquished after-all. As Hyrule started to flood over in the adult timeline they'd need smaller, more portable ones as the kingdom collapsed and the people scattered. I'm thinking the tech evolution from the World Wars having back-pack radios to modern cell phones. smaller, sleeker, more features.
Hey James: I don't really know what happened to the *Gossip Stones* though they could be random statues that we don't really *Understand* and can't communicate with anymore *OR* one of them could be the *Great Horned Statue* that we will eventually get to know in both *Breath Of The Kingdom* {did you notice I combined the two games into one title?} Anyway, there's something new on my *Channel* that you're going to *WANT* to see, so I thought I'd watch an old video and respond in the *Comments Section* so that I could make it known to you!!! I hope that you will *ENJOY* it and also that it *ENERGIZES* your latest project.... Please have a wonderful week, drink a cup of tea, and pet the cats in my honor!!! ~ JonseyG 👲💖
You could argue the stone sleights on the dungeon walls that the bald guy talks to you through in LttP and the stonebeaks/owls in LA are downfall timelines gossip stones.
7:52 that could definitely be something ruled out because of TotK now. Although obviously, there aren't any gossip stones in the game, the stone tablet side quest confirms that at least this rencarnation of the hero doesn't understand ancient hylian. Although that doesn't necessarily confirm that the other incarnations don't, it seems liekly that they wouldn't
@EggmanlandResident Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 are one of my all time favorites. I always try to add something into my videos from all of my favorite games when possible to spread the love.
This should showcase better what the sheikah eye is: hylia appointed a group of dedicated people or tribe to protect the triforce and her incarnated bloodline (the royal family) from evil, the destructive force of demise's hatred and demons, so the tribe sacrifices their selves to protect the very existence of hylia and keeping the triforce hidden. They learn all sorts of hidden arts of magic to do so under hylia amd her wisdom
I love those stones, made sounds, launched into space, spinned around, told me the time, changed colors, spawning fairys, piercing into ones mind with text. shaking ones screen. Love those boing boing stones. I guess hylians did not like em due to privacy issues 😊
maybe the ocean gossip stones look so different because they are a new creation base on link and zelda telling people about the info the king gave them on people created them as a way of convauing information on island to visitors incase no one is there to explain details to visitors and the 2 designs are just because the creators wanted to have them resemble the designers
I have literally never seen that as a moustache before until just now and can't unsee it haha like a moustache usually comes from beneath the nose not from the sides, I thought they were more like hands of a clock but just the same size because it would look very odd to have one short one long
Personally, I'm a big believer that just because an element isn't apparent in a narrative, doesn't necessarily disprove its existence. Like major metropolitan cities in some games only have like 6 buildings, not because they have such a different threshold for the term city, but more likely because thats whats relevant to your character's experience and perceptions. The gossip stones weren't relevant to the hero(s) in the downfall timeline because he had other ways of gathering the necessary information for his quest(s), and no inclination to believe they would have any bearing due to the lack of sheika presence. Also, personally I believe that the Sheika, a tribe that generally falls in and out of favor with the royal family and the general population of hyrule from game to game, probably made the gossip stones as a continuation or homage (or blasphemy in times of disfavor) to the goddess orbs, which I think would have been enough to gain Hylia's notice, or "favor" as it could be inturpreted, but also potentially a way for her to keep them under thumb and scrutiny because they had enough cunning and power to replicate divine magics (and even possibly under horrific means similar to the video's theory, i.e. a philosopher's stone), which could also be why even in times of disfavor, the royal family seems to keep them on a leash when alive (not botw, but purah is suspiciously on hand once zelda is back in totk). My theory is also that during times of disfavor, sheika related/aligned relics would have been removed due to x*noph*bia, but some would likely be preserved by various factions die to their undeniable abilities. Some probably destroyed, most probably kept by the royal family (why the king in ww would have at least a fragment to make the communication stone), some falling into the hands of malefic factions (yiga to carve and desecrate into those frog statues), some recovered by the hero of time (altered into the howling stones for his decedent), and some being lost to time, never to be noticed by another hero under some overgrowth or in a merchant storeroom 10 feet away from where the hero buys an arrow refill, unnoticed. I think any that might have remained for the botw/totk era were most likely converted into something that was incredibly relevant to the hero and right in front of us. Before the calamity caused by Ganon overtook the guardians and great beasts (sheika tech, I believe, but at least unearthed and redeveloped by sheika), the sheika seemed to be in pretty good favor and developing probably so much more than what we see in link's memories (and again, this link has no reason to notice the gossip stones in the first place), I think there's a very good chance that they also unearthed (or recreated) leftover gossip stones/gossip stone technology. After the calamity, they would most likely have fallen back into disfavor as people would need someone to blame for ganon having such advanced arms to continue terroizing them even 100 years after, and taken any and all known gossip stones hanging around to be converted into the goddess staues we see as an act of Hylian distain for the Sheika as well as an attempt at repentance that the goddess might save them, which is why they still react to the hero's presence, but serve as a more direct channel to Hylia's spirit. Some would have been recovered by the Yiga to carve into their vision of divinity/their mockery of ehat their divinity was as an act of devotion to the clan's principals and ganon, as well as to humiliate the sheika and keep their embarrassment and association with the calamity (as well as being the original unit the yiga splintered off from, and making the yiga's nefarious actions synonymous with the Sheika in the public eye). The Sheika themselves would have most likely tried to distance themselves from the tech and gossip stones (indicated by their tech avoidance in kakariko, which is home to a goddess staue, possibly as a good faith act now that 100 years has passed and the out and out x*noph*bia has died down, but could also serve so sheika could use gossip stone tech without anyone noticing). Any leftover could probably have been covertly recovered by the sheika, disassembled, and converted into the distillation tech, as well as the sheika slate, in a similar process as Daphnes much cruder effort of making Wind Waker's communication stone.
I usually like your stuff and thought I'd try your first video. Was that the first time you discovered video editing software? The quality is good, but IMO it's way too frequent with too many jokes. Your narration, as such, barely gets forward. I am glad you toned that down *A LOT* .
It was the first time I ever used video editing software, yes. There's definitely more than a handful of things wrong with my first video, I'll be the first to admit it, but it was a learning experience from start to finish. My voice over did not improve very much as the video progresses but you will start to notice that my editing becomes a little better, bit by bit as the video goes on. I tried many different techniques that I've never done before in my life with this video, even familiarizing myself with Photoshop at the same time for the first time ever as well. I was 100% new to all of this when I made this video and it shows, but I think the most interesting thing about my first video is watching me get better at it in real time through out the whole video. It's interesting to me, at least.
@UltimateTobi No offense taken, you're perfectly fine. I welcome constructive comments like yours, it's always good to read them, even on my older videos. I'm actually glad to see that people take the time to go back and watch them!
@@GossipGeistGreat! And, as announced, I continued watching and it is as you said. The jokes got notably less and narration picked up. Glad I watched again; I like the video all in all. Poor Triforce Heroes. And yeah, as you said, probably no Gossip Stones in the Downfall TL because most of those games were pre-OoT. I did pick up on the similarities of the Howling Stones to the Gossip ones and like your speculation that it could be OoT Link collaborating with Sheikah to aid his descendant. Cheers!
Seems pretty clear to me what happened after ww. Tinkering with that bit of gossip stone to give it the ability to communicate meant that when the gossip stoned began to resurface in ph, the ability passed on. They started talking to each other, gaining more sentience and self awareness. They started questioning their purpose, hey tried different looks, different jobs. They got sick of being hit all the time in ph, so they hid underground and only resurfaced when music was played by the time of st. Basically, they had a bit of a mid-life crisis.
Theres this item in the wind waker link is carrying around called the pirate charms which the king of red lion( king of hyrule) said it is a modified gossip stone he created himself. Maybe overtime people harvest this gossip stone and modified them into something else for long distant communication purpose just like what the king hyrule of windwaker game did with the gossip stone he turn it to pirates charm pendant. Thats why this type of stone becomes extinct.
I think the existence of Gossip Stones in Majora's Mask is something weird. I mean, there are no Sheikah in Termina and if the Goddess created the Gossip Stones, why would they be there since (probably) Hylia doesn't exist in Termina?
Did you gaming did a video on N64 secrets that you’ve never heard. In it they explain that OoT was supposed to have a day cycle like majoras mask but got cut with a lot of other content. It was essentially for speed runners (before they even existed) to know how many days had passed in game. I think that was the time purpose in OoT but was left in there while the calendar got cut.
I don't think any of the stones are Sheikah in origin. I think they were all originally just stones that were carved into different shapes because of their significance. Each of the stones have a sort of sentience, they have wildly different functions between games, and they can also lie. What if the Goddess Statues (and horned statues) are also gossip stones that have just adopted a new duty by the time of BotW, and the populace have mistaken for Hylia speaking through them? This would explain why they'd have been carved into goddess statues when we see them. We know none of them are actually Hylia speaking, since they're all actually bargainer spirits who reside in larger bargainer statues in the depths below them. So what if ALL the gossip stones we've seen are actually bargainer spirits who are helping the Hero along?
I am so so curious on, one, how you get your footage to look SO good, and what editing software you use! Great content! Keep it up! *edit* does anybody know?
Oh wow, you weren't joking. 8 midroll ads?! I had no idea it was that bad. They were automatically generated and placed by UA-cam, I definitely did not do that. I just reduced the number of ads and spaced them out much farther apart, I hope this helps. Thanks for pointing this out to me, I know how annoying ads are and how much it can negatively impact your viewing experience.
With the downfall timeline I think the most simple and probably true answer is that once Ganon killed Link he just destroyed all of the gossip stones so that they couldn’t help the next incarnation of the hero. Simple. Edit: I feel like if we we’re to actually get a “canon” answer, that’s probably the answer we’d get.
I think the erasure of the gossip stones is probably a factor of multiple things They give hints, but when the internet exists, why would you need them when you can just look up the answer? Puzzles were too complicated, not enough people could figure out where to find the hint, let alone how to figure it out. Puzzles like that are too boring, kids these days want more action. Less thinky, more slashy. Or maybe not enough people cared about them, so they just stopped putting them in games.
Listen! what if the Gossips Stones are made from a stonefication magic to aid the hero, so in OoT they are stonified sheikah monks, in spirits tracks they are stoneified rabbit fanatics. In downfall timeline you can argue that ganon won and just got rid of the stones thats why you see them nowhere. And in BotW maybe instead of using stonemagic they used mumification so sheikah monks aid the hero through giving their life force instead of tips, having in mind the heroe has the sheikah slate (a high tech portable gossip stone?).
This is what I've been able to decipher: "I ??? do not think they have disappeared but instead have been turned into something else" So what they think is that the gossip stones for whatever reason turned into something else over the course of the series

I have a very simple way that I reconcile inconsistencies for all the games, especially when it comes to appearances, geography, etc:
The games are all just artistic and stylized representations of history and legends within Hyrule.
Great debut, man, congratz! The editing is a bit too much, but quite funny overall and I appreciate the effort.
This is the best ‘first video’ on UA-cam. I am shocked by how good it is…
The reason Spirit Tracks gossip stones have ears might be to hear more secrets and lore.
I dunno man I had alot fun beating Triforce Heroes with my mates...
But ether way this was still a great video with superb editing. Gonna go check out you're other ones next.
but link between worlds, has hint ghosts which in my eyes are in essence the spirits of a gossip stone. tho that is more of just a head cannon
Spirit tracks and wind waker fully encompasses early 2000s
to me, the reason the gossip stones in phantom hourglass atleast look different is because they're in the realm of the ocean king, so presumably are tied to him somehow instead of the standard stones having a connection to the shiekah and hylia (and we know oshus loves his facial hair, so that would explain their wicked stache)
Amazing editing and narrating. Pls do more.
@@GossipGeist how would Gorko know the language of the skyward sword humans if they have been in the sky for so long none of them knew they were ever once on the ground and maybe Fi acts as a translater.
a botw mod called second wind has gossip strones in it
Oh wow, I knew about Second Wind but I had no idea about it having Gossip Stones, that's awesome, haha. I'll have to check it out some time.
my take is just that the Sheikah made the Gossip Stone to communicate information like a walkie talkie or rather a hidden Radio Outpost. why do they disappear? numerous calamities causing technological regression as the Sheikah are forced to relocate time and time again + no maintenance. in Twilight Princess the hole is likely as they decommissioned them, the mission was over; Ganondorf was slain and vanquished after-all. As Hyrule started to flood over in the adult timeline they'd need smaller, more portable ones as the kingdom collapsed and the people scattered. I'm thinking the tech evolution from the World Wars having back-pack radios to modern cell phones. smaller, sleeker, more features.
Gossip Girl is behind it all.
I like your editing bro keep it up
You could argue the stone sleights on the dungeon walls that the bald guy talks to you through in LttP and the stonebeaks/owls in LA are downfall timelines gossip stones.
Wow. I was not expecting to hear music from Mega Man Legends in this.
@EggmanlandResident Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 are one of my all time favorites. I always try to add something into my videos from all of my favorite games when possible to spread the love.
The realistic link face is great
This should showcase better what the sheikah eye is: hylia appointed a group of dedicated people or tribe to protect the triforce and her incarnated bloodline (the royal family) from evil, the destructive force of demise's hatred and demons, so the tribe sacrifices their selves to protect the very existence of hylia and keeping the triforce hidden.
Those stones, man, I'm telling you, they're NSA agents!
maybe the ocean gossip stones look so different because they are a new creation base on link and zelda telling people about the info the king gave them on people created them as a way of convauing information on island to visitors incase no one is there to explain details to visitors and the 2 designs are just because the creators wanted to have them resemble the designers
I feel the Phantom Hourglass stones were made by Osha. The entire adventure is in his realm after all.
In German translation they're literally called Shiekah Stein (stone), gossip stone sounds better tho imo
anscheinend sind Sheikah Steine und Mythen-Stein? (laut dem wiki) zwei verschiedene Dinger
Sheikah stones in SS have spikes
I have literally never seen that as a moustache before until just now and can't unsee it haha like a moustache usually comes from beneath the nose not from the sides, I thought they were more like hands of a clock but just the same size because it would look very odd to have one short one long
Love the way you roasted Triforce Heroes, you made my day
What I wanna know is why the blast off when you blow them up
Personally, I'm a big believer that just because an element isn't apparent in a narrative, doesn't necessarily disprove its existence.
@@GossipGeist Much appreciated!
Sorry if I came off as brash (brass?), wasn't my intention.
I'll give it another go.
As mentioned; I like your stuff.
Coordinated space launches. That's why they're all gone.
You didnt mention that when you explode a bomb near a gossip stone in OoT it blinks, shoots upwards and explodes.
They exist in skyward sword, but not in totk. Something must have happened during the unknown span of time bewteen these two games!
They all blasted off into space.
According to the new timeline I guess they never existed in the first place.
I think the existence of Gossip Stones in Majora's Mask is something weird. I mean, there are no Sheikah in Termina and if the Goddess created the Gossip Stones, why would they be there since (probably) Hylia doesn't exist in Termina?
I like to think some were turned into howling stones.
Maybe the gossip stones are eggs which hatch into goddess statues.
🤯
Did you gaming did a video on N64 secrets that you’ve never heard. In it they explain that OoT was supposed to have a day cycle like majoras mask but got cut with a lot of other content. It was essentially for speed runners (before they even existed) to know how many days had passed in game. I think that was the time purpose in OoT but was left in there while the calendar got cut.
The gossip stoned went missing because snitches get stitches. Obviously.
The Sheikah were very nearly extinct in the Adult Timeline.
Great videos, man!
I am so so curious on, one, how you get your footage to look SO good, and what editing software you use! Great content! Keep it up!
*edit* does anybody know?
Lore of The Mysterious Disappearance of Gossip Stones - A Zelda Theory momentum 100
We just gonna ignore how link was brutally murdered by what seems to be gannondorf?
That fairy came in clutch though.
@@GossipGeist it did tho
Ffxi music! Nice
Yep, glad someone noticed! Sunk 16 years into that game. Easily one of my top 5 favorite video games of all time.
the amount of ad breaks on this video makes it almost unwatchable
Oh wow, you weren't joking. 8 midroll ads?! I had no idea it was that bad. They were automatically generated and placed by UA-cam, I definitely did not do that. I just reduced the number of ads and spaced them out much farther apart, I hope this helps. Thanks for pointing this out to me, I know how annoying ads are and how much it can negatively impact your viewing experience.
I’m insane too. I legitimately think Triforce heroes is a good game
I thought you would say that the goddess statues were actually repurposed gossip stones re shaped by hylia to aid the hero
2:30 So what I saw from this first part of the vid, they showed up lore wise until OoT and didnt show up after? Timeline shit happened lol
The reason they aren't around is because the creators weren't able to place them in time.
Tri force heroes is good
I do think I was too harsh on it in the video, it was a joke that came off more malevolent than intended, lol.
I think the erasure of the gossip stones is probably a factor of multiple things
They give hints, but when the internet exists, why would you need them when you can just look up the answer?
Puzzles were too complicated, not enough people could figure out where to find the hint, let alone how to figure it out.
Puzzles like that are too boring, kids these days want more action. Less thinky, more slashy.
Or maybe not enough people cared about them, so they just stopped putting them in games.
wouldn't that be +1 hole in the middle rather than minus? since twilight princess takes place after OOT (:
They can also fly and burrow
Listen! what if the Gossips Stones are made from a stonefication magic to aid the hero, so in OoT they are stonified sheikah monks, in spirits tracks they are stoneified rabbit fanatics.
Downfall timeline gannon won and destroyed them all after windwaker they evolved
They were tasty, I'm sorry!
Gorko the goron ooooooo epic legal battle nintendo vs gamesworkshop
I omage do not think thay hav gone butt insated be maied in to some thing less
Do you even english bro?
This is what I've been able to decipher:
"I ??? do not think they have disappeared but instead have been turned into something else"
So what they think is that the gossip stones for whatever reason turned into something else over the course of the series
