Redditors who watched a certain person video about not using switches at HM K'pac and who think the spikes made that kill possible. Yes they exist, and I've read all sorts of dumb takes and have gotten flamed so hard in the past for pointing out how blindly some of them follow the top dogs.
I personally think the amount of flesh dropped needs to be almost doubled or the flesh per spike needs increased. Sure it would lower the price, but it would drastically lower the cost of using it. The other option is to buff them, but I’m not sure you can without making melee use the full abyssal set as a crutch.
@@janitorizamped It isn’t though? It’s only worth it if you are running all 3 abyssal items. Otherwise the buff is minuscule over normal spikes. It basically means that unless you are dual wielding they are way overpriced. Dual wielding melee being one of the worst styles for AoE which the spikes synergize off of. If you arent using the set you are throwing away gold for a less than 1% damage increase because they are used regardless of if they proc. This isn’t even factoring in Melee also being one of the hardest styles to adrenaline dump as well.
@@Jefftiffy maybe have an item that doubles the Abyssal Flesh obtained per slayer task. Because i can see why doubling them naturally would be slightly OP, maybe even make them drop 100% during slayer tasks for ALL abyssal creatures in the Asylum (currently only Lords have a 100% Drop Chance on task). But all things considered, maybe I'll just stick to the regular Alloy Spikes, after all, I already camp the scourge and don't really switch my weapons too much with Melee. If i went heavy with my switchscape, maybe I'd consider using them full time, but for now and, outside of bosses like HM K'Pac and ED3, I don't use Melee too much to the point of needing these spikes.
Ya I only ever use these unless I’m doing at least 3 of these 4 things: 1) camping masterwork spear 2) using Jaw’s of the abyss 3) using a blood reaver familiar with at least 2 of vampirism aura, scrim, and soul split active all with weapon poison 4) If I’m camping the melee Rex matriarch ring over reaver’s ring Even then I will only ever use them for bosses.
Hey Protoxx, great video! I was wondering what you think about armour spikes now after the addition of primal armour spikes, an increase in smithing level to 110 and having the ability to buy them as well as the reduced cost to use the spikes? Not sure if it would make for a good video or not. I'm really just trying to decide if it's worth using now for mostly bossing.
Welcome to PVM Discussions, where people with anime profile pictures feel like they're the PVM authority and their opinion is the only one that matters. Just be glad this isn't reddit.
Jesus, the amount of hate in these comments is unbearable. Half of them don't even have the balls to be direct with you and just piggyback on someone else's hate. Isn't that a circle jerk? Right or wrong, your opinion still matters, take care
Most of them are just angry for some reason I don't understand. They don't even come up with good arguments as to why I'm wrong or, they cite something I already said in the video.
I have only been pulling this out in melee scenarios where I need more bleeds for the abby helm to proc off of for extra adrenaline, rather than for the miniscule damage. Camping the spear that's 2% extra per attack with high uptime.
Basically, any boss that last as long as HM K'pac, but one must also have to take into consideration the investment into switchscape and one should set aside the top tier, anime profile picture, top tier PVM'er Videos and focus inwards, because their content may contaminate one's point of view if one's not up there yet.
I find the video title kind of misleading when there isn't all the information given that could've been given. What about stacking the abyssal armour spikes with scourge whip. Would it be a dps increase at example bosses or would it still be better dps to just go normal alloy armour spikes.
Dude the point here is that he explain price and time to make them so is not worth using this aby spikes .he is not doing a whip+aby spikes review this is actually a very informative video stop the hate this dude make really amazing videos.
The point remains the same with the abyssal scourge, although I agree that I should've probably specifically also added that using spikes + the scourge is still not worth it to make it clear. To get 50 stacks in total in takes about 45-60secs with the scourge, in that time you can expect to gain maybe 2 stacks if lucky (at a boss) extra from the spikes. You're spending a ton of money on spikes just to get max spikes maybe a second or two faster which is not worth it.
@@simpsonfan272 eh if your really care about money like that I guess so. If you can manage literally 2 ed1 solo runs an hour you can make like 20m an hour. And that’s if you’re unlucky. With luck you can make wayyyy more than that. You can cover the cost of the spikes pretty easily with most upper mid level pvm.
@@drewhickerty6753 I am yet to test these spikes, I took a small break from RuneScape and have now come back as i missed PvM. I have bought the scourge and helm and am hyped to test it out.
I feel like they need small buff, maybe 50% chance to add a stack instead of 25%, or making it last longer than 9 seconds, I cant even get over 6 stacks before it wears off.
At 00:50 you mentioned Abyssal Armour Spikes (alloy) doing more damage than the Abyssal Amrour Spoikes (rune) but according the the wiki and tooltips stats in game they do the exact same damage? How do you confirm whether or not the alloy versions of the abyssal armour spikes do more damage than the rune varient as I can't seem to find a source anywhere?
Alloy abyssal armour spikes have the alloy effect, carried over from the regular alloy armour spikes. "Alloy armour spikes have a 10% chance to increase their damage from 100 to 1000% of your Smithing level; thus, at level 99 Smithing." Source: Runescape.wiki U can also see it in the ingame tooltips iirc
@@ProtoxxGaming I can't seem to find where it says the regular alloy armour spikes effect carries over to the abbyssal varient thats what i meant by it not showing in tooltips as it doesnt mention it in the abyssal variant tooltip or in abyssal armour spike (alloy) in wiki plus I haven't noticed the extra dmg compared to the rune abyssal variant? EDIT - I'm just confused cause if the effects carried over would it not mention it somewhere? Some people on reddit seem to think it doesn't get carried over to the abyssal variant
I don't see why anyone would use Abyssal spikes without Jaws of the Abyss to begin with.. While informative, isn't this info kinda irrelevant? It's like recommending not using Overloads while out of combat
Well they work well in very niche situations, but will cost you money. You can not claim something is worthless without having tested it, which is why I created this video to share information and the logic behind using the spikes or not. You might know/understand why they aren't worth using but that doesn't mean that applies to every person watching this video. Lots of people know cars are statistically "dangerous to drive", but explaining how and why they are dangerous to drive is far from irrelevant information. I might know why cars are dangerous statistically and where and how most accidents happen but others might not. This is again, why I created this video. So while I appreciate the feedback, I believe calling the information irrelevant is a bit unfair. If these spikes are ever changed (instant upgrading, become cheaper or have their chance to activate the special changed) people will understand what kind of impact that will have on their effectiveness if they happened to watch this video.
I've seen a ton of people use abyssal armour spikes without jaws for some reason. Mainly because some people consider it an 'upgrade' coz it's the newest update.
I mean, a drop log can take you thousands of kills. In such a long run having the best in slot weapon is important. If it doesn't break your bank, go for it. it will help loads
@@abhisheknauduri7013 Oh. Hopefully you'll make enough money from the log for the t92 version. The reason it's so good is because it extends all your bleeds by 50%, this means u'll be bleeding corp almost constantly.
Since it's so minimal it barely speeds up the amount of stacks you gain (since bosses attack slowly and the chance is on 25%). I don't think its worth it. It takes 45-60sec to get max stacks with the scourge on a boss, in that time I only got 1 or 2 procs from abyssal spikes at Vindicta in my isolated experiment.
The cost due to abyssal creatures being used for exp just means you always use the abyssal spikes. No reason not too, I get abyssal flesh off ge for under 500 gp each all the time, during this video abyssal flesh was 8k+ each. Its barely 2x cost over alloy spikes now and you make them quick.
You want bread? A pair of croissants? Now I'd love to have Dead Cells weapons like the Vorpan (with the ability to deflect attacks) or the Electric Whip (with the ability to behave like the Korasi's Sword spec but in a 5x5 Area), maybe even Firebands to spice things up (Basically, a mini Magma Tempest for Melee). For exotic weapons, just for looks, anything from the Aztec Empire would do.
I meant the gear I had to look it up its dwarven siege engine and oldak coil. Theres alot of new items and abilities when I came back to the game now to catch up where I can. Wouldnt mind buying a fractured staff of armadyl but is like 4.6b-5b alot of farming to do.
Like surg said, its nothing special. I'm berserked, and bleeding my assault with the greater barge ability. I'm also using a grimoire for higher crits in that clip
Meh. I'm an ironman. Time and money mean nothing to me. I just made 245k dinarrows because I had to. Wish you'd do content for Ironmen too. A lot of your vids are MTX/GP based and a good majority of RS3 players are iron..
On average you'll make 20m an hour just off whip drop , theyll eventually go down due to farming them regardless what flesh goes for, I think I got 2 per kill , they make up less than 5% of the loot value as of now . Mind ya this is based off my 2000 on task kills
Hahaha I understand :P I sometimes like to dig into why something isn't good for me and for others with testing but I don't go along min maxing my play session everyday :P Its really only for videos and purchase decisions on rs
I honestly disagree the cost isn't that much and the time to make them is not that bad lol not to mention if u use the new whip with the spikes and the new helm it's actually pretty op unless they nerfed them in the month I been out
Somewhat playing devils advocate here as I've never bothered to make or use the spikes yet... I guess this could go much deeper in the analysis, other things to consider, making them while afking isn't exactly the same as the time using them (granted many tasks are afk but not all uses of them are) so the time itself is not exactly equal. Additionally, there would be a decrease in supply costs while marginal, would contribute some value to the spikes.
I hate pvm in runescape. 0,6 tick combat after 12 years of playing moba games feels depressing. anything that would make me skip through pvm a little bit is not a waste of time.I am happy owner of 1 mil rune spikes and can't wait to abbysal them
That sounds more like a personal issue tbh, for Instance i absolutely abhor MOBAS and I've tried lots of them in the past, even the MTX Predatory ones from Gameloft, I never really liked the flow of the battle or having to rely on a Team to achieve victory, most games feelt so conflicted, ike they wanted to be ARPGS but hate being a single player game, so they add a social aspect and make something super weird as a result. That's why i prefer RuneScape, where most of my victories are personal achievements and depend entirely on the weight I put, also most Group bosses take the best out of everyone involved and that's a way better experience than any MOBA could ever dream of providing. The RuneScape tick system is just a cheap excuse to shun on the game (I'm not defending it because it sucks rats) but even without it, people would still suck at this game and would like to have another "legacy combat mode" that uses it because they can't keep up. Although, seriously speaking, and with my heart in hand, you have my full sympathy for wasting 12 years of your life on the Moba Scene, I wish i could recover my 3 years there alongside all my money.
I'd say all MMORPGs are a waste of time for the fun per hour ratio u get. They try to be all kinds of games at once, and can't really excel at too many specifics. Still fun tho
@protoxx no offence im a max melee on rs3 and doing all the high end pvm bosses and ur 100% wrong about all of this i would get more info next time before posting :)

I don't think you actually watch my videos at all if you think I'm constantly "spitting" on Jagex. Sure, I give Jagex "feedback" by voicing my opinion if I disagree with something, like the garbage quest rewards that came with extinction, but even in that video I mentioned positive things about the quest. From testing it in so many places against so many mobs and bosses, to spending all that time and money on making the dang spikes just to test em. And then compiling all that data together and running all those calculations? You’re a fucking legend Protoxx!
And I’m sorry so many in these comments are too ignorant to understand the value of this information, man. You definitely don’t deserve that.
So thank you for making this! From those of us who understand the value of this vid and all the others you’ve given us!
I really do appreciate the comments that do understand the value of my video. Thank you!
While it doesn't keep me up at night, spending 20 hours on a video for someone to just say "nah bro you are wrong" while the numbers don't lie is just disappointing to see sometimes. Thankfully, the vast majority (90%) like the video :D

I don't think anyone is just using spikes without the jaws
Redditors who watched a certain person video about not using switches at HM K'pac and who think the spikes made that kill possible.
Yes they exist, and I've read all sorts of dumb takes and have gotten flamed so hard in the past for pointing out how blindly some of them follow the top dogs.
I personally think the amount of flesh dropped needs to be almost doubled or the flesh per spike needs increased. Sure it would lower the price, but it would drastically lower the cost of using it. The other option is to buff them, but I’m not sure you can without making melee use the full abyssal set as a crutch.
Or just leave it as it is because it's already really strong?
OK, thx 4 the info! 🙋🏻♂️ 🏆🥇❤️
Ya I only ever use these unless I’m doing at least 3 of these 4 things:
1) camping masterwork spear
2) using Jaw’s of the abyss
3) using a blood reaver familiar with at least 2 of vampirism aura, scrim, and soul split active all with weapon poison
4) If I’m camping the melee Rex matriarch ring over reaver’s ring
Even then I will only ever use them for bosses.
I do not usually comment but seeing the amount of salt in the comments is just depressing.
Good vid pal
These are pretty great for melee hard mode kerapac
Basically, any boss that last as long as HM K'pac, but one must also have to take into consideration the investment into switchscape and one should set aside the top tier, anime profile picture, top tier PVM'er Videos and focus inwards, because their content may contaminate one's point of view if one's not up there yet.
@@Kranon luckily you don’t have to do any kind of switches for these 😊 just throw them in your inventory and they will consume when you get hit
I find the video title kind of misleading when there isn't all the information given that could've been given. What about stacking the abyssal armour spikes with scourge whip. Would it be a dps increase at example bosses or would it still be better dps to just go normal alloy armour spikes.
💯 agree the whip makes them almost op especially if u got the new helm
@@OmniDan26 seems like its working PogChamp
@@ProtoxxGaming THE SPIKES AND HELM ARE FOR BOSSES NOT ABBY DEMONS. SMH
I think theyre great tbh i just use the whip with them at the same time mainly while clearing ed1-3 and it makes trips way faster
But now you gotta calculate how much money they’re costing you to use for how much of a gain in time 🤔
@@simpsonfan272 eh if your really care about money like that I guess so.

5.3k mid 2k insta atm
I feel like they need small buff, maybe 50% chance to add a stack instead of 25%, or making it last longer than 9 seconds, I cant even get over 6 stacks before it wears off.
Never thought I'd see a personal opinion video. The spikes are actually decent
"Alloy armour spikes have a 10% chance to increase their damage from 100 to 1000% of your Smithing level; thus, at level 99 Smithing."
Source: Runescape.wiki
U can also see it in the ingame tooltips iirc
@@ProtoxxGaming I can't seem to find where it says the regular alloy armour spikes effect carries over to the abbyssal varient thats what i meant by it not showing in tooltips as it doesnt mention it in the abyssal variant tooltip or in abyssal armour spike (alloy) in wiki plus I haven't noticed the extra dmg compared to the rune abyssal variant?
EDIT - I'm just confused cause if the effects carried over would it not mention it somewhere? Some people on reddit seem to think it doesn't get carried over to the abyssal variant
@@Axemwa It could be bugged right now, might be fixed if it is.
They should 100% have the alloy effect though
@@ProtoxxGaming That's actually a very fair point, you changed my mind! :)
I've seen a ton of people use abyssal armour spikes without jaws for some reason. Mainly because some people consider it an 'upgrade' coz it's the newest update.
Looks like Futima was wearing the ring of Charos while telling you this. It's super effective
How effective are they as part of a scourge camping set to maximize bleeds?
Not that effective
I play a defence pure, this item is very OP for me.
Why can I only make 600 of the spikes at once but I can make 1000 qt a time in a furnace.
Jagex logic haha
unrelated question, Is it worth buying the Spear of Annihilation for Corp Log or should I just stick to 2nd best which is Mizuyari?
I mean, a drop log can take you thousands of kills. In such a long run having the best in slot weapon is important. If it doesn't break your bank, go for it. it will help loads
@@ProtoxxGaming Thank you. I can't afford the Masterwork Spear but I can get T90 version which is cheaper.
@@abhisheknauduri7013 Oh. Hopefully you'll make enough money from the log for the t92 version. The reason it's so good is because it extends all your bleeds by 50%, this means u'll be bleeding corp almost constantly.
@@ProtoxxGaming should I buy t90 then go for t92 or save for t92 and use Mizuyari or any other spear until then?
Is it worth using spikes + scourge for extra stacks? Or is the stacks you gain minimal versus the stacks from the scourge?
Since it's so minimal it barely speeds up the amount of stacks you gain (since bosses attack slowly and the chance is on 25%). I don't think its worth it.
It takes 45-60sec to get max stacks with the scourge on a boss, in that time I only got 1 or 2 procs from abyssal spikes at Vindicta in my isolated experiment.
@@ProtoxxGaming thanks, overall conclusion abyssal spikes suck

The cost due to abyssal creatures being used for exp just means you always use the abyssal spikes. No reason not too, I get abyssal flesh off ge for under 500 gp each all the time, during this video abyssal flesh was 8k+ each. Its barely 2x cost over alloy spikes now and you make them quick.

On average you'll make 20m an hour just off whip drop , theyll eventually go down due to farming them regardless what flesh goes for, I think I got 2 per kill , they make up less than 5% of the loot value as of now . Mind ya this is based off my 2000 on task kills

I honestly disagree the cost isn't that much and the time to make them is not that bad lol not to mention if u use the new whip with the spikes and the new helm it's actually pretty op unless they nerfed them in the month I been out
Protoxx doesn't melee prod so of course he'd say not worth it.
💜

First of all, what makes you think I'm spitting on Jagex in this video? Did you even watch it? Its a video covering when you should and shouldn't use abyssal spikes and why...
I don't think you actually watch my videos at all if you think I'm constantly "spitting" on Jagex. Its either that, or you're only getting certain videos in your feed which is giving you an isolated view on my content. Sure, I give Jagex "feedback" by voicing my opinion if I disagree with something, like the garbage quest rewards that came with extinction, but even in that video I mentioned positive things about the quest. The ironic thing is, when i'm too positive about an update the majority dislikes I get the opposite of your comment, where people call me a jagex Drider.
You can't please everyone I suppose.
Its thanks to @Protoxx and people like him that Jagex fixes their crappy/dead content due to a thing called "feedback" from the majority of the player base.
