NYC's Most FLAMBOYANT Steakhouse! Is STRIP HOUSE NYC's Best Steak? HUGE 26-Layer Cake!
Вставка

- No list of the best steakhouses in NYC is complete without the iconic Strip House. I'm a lover of puns and the name of this place is absolutely a play on words. Strip House is known for its NY strip steak, and it is also known for its memorable decor and setting, as the entire restaurant is decorated with burlesque stars from the roaring 20s.
Eating here is an interesting experience. It feels like you are stepping back in time to the 1920s and the flapper era, and I could not film some of the restaurant for fear of getting in trouble with the platform! But beyond the atmosphere, many people consider Strip House to be one of the best steaks in NYC. Besides its steak though, it is also known for the famous Strip House 26-layer chocolate cake, which is one of the largest and most memorable desserts I have ever had!
Strip House in NYC is among the iconic steakhouses of New York, but some people feel it has fallen off over the years. Is it still iconic or is it overrated? Let's find out together!

Really appreciated your HONEST review. Thanks for not over glorifying your reviews. I'd try it out, but not aged now that I know.
i enjoyed this review, well done
Thanks!
As a foodie I love honest reviews about places before I try them so I appreciate your honest critique. As you get better and more well known, establishments will begin to make (sure) you get the best prepared. Be mindful, you may have to wear a disguise or unfortunaely get it to go... Keep up good work, you remind me of Peter Parker, (Tobey Maguire version...lol) a very innocent, honest vibe about you.. 😄
This half palm garlic squish thing on top of my steak needs to be stopped right now.
Ok!!!
I Love that your reviews are detailed. You look at food the way I do. I’ve watched one of your videos and enjoy them all. I’m also a major carnivore. I have to tell you, however, that it’s considered crass to eat off of a roll in a restaurant or at dinner with friends. You tear a piece of the roll off or cut a piece of the roll off if it is too hard to tear and butter it and eat it piece by piece. I’m only telling you this because you go to find restaurants and I don’t want them to think you are a rube. I dig your channel!
Wrong advice on all levels. How to eat and what your "friends" may judge you on.
From the Good Manners source:
Once ready to enjoy your bread or roll, use your fingers to gently break off a piece. Use the butter spreader to spread a fine amount of butter on a single piece just before eating it. Repeat this pattern - Break, Butter, Eat - as you enjoy the bread.
No bread plate on the table? No problem! Simply set the roll on the edge of the dinner plate as you enjoy.
One more thing to remember: Never use a knife and fork to cut the bread or roll and never put the whole roll directly into your mouth!
@@supremester2 do you think that manners are a truth revealed by god or something?
Great video as always, your videos are so entertaining and fun to watch. Please keep them coming. I'm actually watching some of your other videos that I have seen multiple times 😁👍
Another great video thx UA keep it coming❤❤
$22 for a *slice* of cake is absolutely nuts. I don't care if Zeus himself nutted in the cake batter and topped it with caviar and a narwhal horn. These restaurants really have the gumption.
Ayo. Zeus nut is wild. No Diddy
I won't be surprised if the restaurant pays $7 or $8 bucks for that portion. Restaurants have to price menu items at
3 X their cost. I've seen frozen chocolate cakes in wholesale ranging from $8 to $12 per pound.
Its worth it lol. Its the main reason why i go and its a big portion 😊
22 is cheap, cheesecake factory your paying 10 minimum and they are mass produced. 22 for a desert for 2 people is good especially if its small batch in house made. Places like this are made for special occasions thats why the price point is where its at.
Also good cocoa is expensive go to a real chocolate store
I’ve been to the other location and was also disappointed. Your review confirms there’s no reason to give it another try.
Strip House and the Palm are both owned by the same company (Landry's).
Interesting...not a fan of Landry's.
Mortons also owned by Landry's .....steaks are not good either..
Landry's also owns Del Frisco's and Maestros. They are quietly buying up steak chains. You can't beat the dry aged ribeye at Del Frisco's. Great Umami - popcorn / butter
When you get a great piece of dry aged steak you will smell the funk when they bring out to you.
They definitely didn’t give you what you asked for.
Pace’s Steakhouse on Long Island does an incredible real dry aged Porterhouse for 2 it’s legit.
Keeping them coming enjoy the content!!!
Time to go to Texas on a bbq tour- you’ll eat a lot better than in places like this
Great review, UA. Friends of mine went there a couple of months ago, and they weren't impressed at all. But they loved the chocolate cake! You were right on it. Keep up the great work! I am looking forward to your next review.
These places have a lot of nerve charging that kind of money and serving food that is far from superior.
60+ dollars for a small steak, with no sides or sauce is crazy to me. Especially when I can cook much better ones at home.
@@ab_c4429 its NYC. The steak house wouldn't stay open if they charged less than 60$. The rent on that space is probably 100k a month.
@@ashofaphoenix yeah you’re correct on that, guess I wouldn’t really feel great being ripped off like that throughout NYC.
Agree. The ridiculous prices are valid if the food (& service) are ridiculously good. It appears it was not.
@@ashofaphoenixSounds like there problem, perhaps don't open in the biggest shithole in the US ?
Have been to that location twice and it was superb each time.
Thank you UA. I dont want to eat there. Too expensive. But it's good to know. I love all your takes on the restaurants.
If that's a 24 layer cake, then any cake with frosting would qualify as a 2 layer cake.
$16 for pureed potatoes? Wow!
Haven't been to the midtown location but the one on 12th st. has been my favorite NYC steakhouse since the early 2000s.
UA - maybe a trip to Chicago to review some places there?
Love your videos. I agree with most of your reviews and I appreciate your honesty
I’m glad you’re back at a nice restaurant instead of the last couple places. I know you wanted to change it up but even a restaurant in Chinatown will be good. Sue
Would love to see a Wo Hop episode
I’ve been waiting for this review!
Hey UA. Just got home. Nice bread. Steak cooked perfectly. Bad cutlery. They dressed it up with peppercorns. They can tell you anything and you just have to believe them. Nice dessert. Thanks for the great review. TC 👋🏽
Thanks for watching as always! Yeah who knows about the steak, but that dessert was fantastic
You have to be the most affable honest food reviewer on UA-cam
You deserve millions of subscribers
Keep up the great work UA
Worth the wait as always UA!
Love the steakhouse reviews. Super helpful so thank you UA! You are saving all of us a lot of money lol. Strip House is definitely a must miss...
Venture out to Longhorn Steakhouse, their NY Strip is phenomenal, as is their loaded baked potato, and salad served on a chilled plate. I prefer Longhorn over Ruth's Chris and the whole meal is 27 bucks.
Agreed. Pretty good for a chain restaurant.
That’s one of the best looking sears I’ve seen
Dudeeeee, nice to see you here! Love your vids!
Also, I think if they’re gonna do a peppercorn crust like that, it should be on the menu. Personally, I wouldn’t want that much pepper. . And I feel you on the dry age taste. That’s why I pay $60-$80 for a steak because I want that dry age flavor. I am going to try that cake!
Its the staple of the restaurant and they tell you before hand. You can dial it back if you want
my fav steak house in nyc
Hi
Seems the bread/butter and cake were the best parts!
Two steakhouses I’m pretty happy with are “Meet the Meat” and “Christo steakhouse” both are in Astoria/LIC area. I also think Amber steakhouse in Brooklyn is pretty good!
Thanks for the review…my “foodie” nephew wanted to go to a steakhouse for his 11th birthday & we ended up going to that Strip House location…I guess we have unsophisticated pedestrian palates because we actually loved the steak there…after finding the steaks at Keens to be underseasoned, we appreciated how flavorful that pepper char makes the steaks at Strip House. My nephew and his mother got the NY Strip but I got the Bone-In Ribeye both times and found it delicious…we also LOVE the Chopped Baby Iceberg “Wedge” salad…my nephew got the oysters which is one of his favorite foods anywhere (I don’t like seafood at all so I can’t comment on how they were)…that Black Truffle Creamed Spinach was very yummy but I’m not enough of a spinach fan to have more than a taste…my nephew’s French fries were actually better than any of the other potato sides…Unlike the snooty Brooklyn hipster service at St. Anselm, we really like the friendly service at the Midtown Strip House (I think it helps that that location never seems too crowded), from the hostess seating us even when we were early for our reservation and not giving us a hard time at all if one person in our party was running late, to the servers being very willing to explain the menu and answer any questions
I love how they subtly try to upcharge you with salad and wine lol
Get UA to the Harvard Club!!!
AGREED!
Interesting review, but you were too kind to them. That steak was poor quality meat to begin with, not dry aged as advertised, and medium, not medium rare as requested. The spinach was mediocre. The prices weren't...they were outrageous. Why didn't you send the steak back?
Poor quality i agree. Should see those tendons(ligaments?) In the meat as it tell he got the lower end of meat quality wise
@@dailylifeofanything399
Saw that . Steak looks to be a rip.
Dude you have to review Churrascaria Plataforma, one of my fav places
Hi UA I grew up in Manhattan and never knew this place existed will have to check it out . Ohh Truffled Creamed spinach can’t wait . Like the way the server tried to get you to order a Caesar salad 😂
Isn't the salad a complimentary free thing? like how they give you breads
You got to try Christo's Steakhouse in Astoria. Dry aged and charbroiled so you get that nice crust. Super tasty and very underrated.
UA is back!!! finally!
The last 2 years that I've been to NYC (Manhattan) there are scaffolds and construction outside of almost every damn restaurant
Love all your reviews UA, but I particularly love your steakhouse reviews. Steakhouses for the most part are very expensive and I for one want to know how the food is beforehand. And I definitely value your opinion
Always love to see a UA review. As I said before, there is a steak stop in Wilmington, DE, restaurant week is next week, I can host!
I'm a little surprised they'd serve a steak with that much sear on top, especially since the bottom doesn't match. Good recap, UA!
WashU -- the "Harvard" of the midwest
Everyone has their own preferences in terms of steak. I ate at Strip House only once. I find the taste at other steakhouses better, and since the prices are comparable among the steakhouses, I'd just rather go to the ones where it more suits my taste.
Great review!
I wish you would have tried the ceasar salad.
When the steak was cut -- all I saw as sinew. I would have sent that back ---ASAP.
The cream spinach looked coagulated and cold.
I will not be dining here as everything look BLAH
So I have to ask what did you bring home in that bag???
Great video
UA, you are the best. Spot on as usual. This steak just doesn’t cut it for 67. Been there and the crust is just not tasty, that simple!
For those prices everything needs to be right on point including a sharp knife. Visually nothing I saw in your video made me hungry unlike many of the videos from some of the other establishments you have visited.
Get those taste buds insured- nice catch on the "dry aged"!
People are ignorant. These are the ingredients in the NOT made in house, “Strip House Chocolate Cake.”

You should try to go to the harvard club and if they dont let you in you should go back to fuddruckers
Hey man. Big fan of your videos! Born and raised in Cherry Hill, NJ and big birds fan! Season ticket holder. A couple new spots to try in the Philly area.. Alpen Rose- steakhouse in Center City and new Jewish deli called Radins in Voorhees NJ. Both are phenomenal! Would be honored to join you as a guest if you ever up for it. One birds fan to another!
I miss the “Pub”
I eat out fairly often and I have to say that steakhouses are generally the most boring options to me. That's not to say they're bad. Many are very good. Over the years the experience just got a bit too repetitive to me, I think, so nowadays I seek out more variety.
As a steakhouse afficionado, I concur that Strip House is not on par with Gallagher's or Delmonico's (the two I consistently rate most highly).
Strips with that super white line of grizzle suck
its raw
@@truth4004Medium Rare
Yup !!
ribeye > strip, end of discussion... strip never has a beefier flavor or marble as ribeye
Dude how do you not order the caesar salad? You get it at every steak house!! You are equal parts, bread and butter review, caesar review and steak review.
Another great review, UA. I have to say I look forward to your videos because you're not afraid to say something is wrong. The cake did look amazing.
Wishing you and Tina a great night. Can't wait until your next video
Thank you for the kind words! The cake was very good.
At Empire, I recommend the porterhouse or lamb chops, mac and cheese with truffles and you can pick the next side lol. They're all good
Honestly dude, I have no idea why anyone would pick a strip steak over a Rib steak, the king of steaks. But you do you, I guess. Being raised on a cattle farm and then spending most of my life as a butcher I gave up on strip steaks in order to devour the only steak worth comparing.
You went to the tourist trap strip house. The real deal is in on east 12th
I've been telling you for months, if you're really looking for the best, Empire Steakhouse on 50th street on the east side in NYC. I recommend Tuesday-Saturday 👌. You'll thank me later ❤
That cake was 12 layers and not 24. The icing in between each layer doesn't count as additional layers. This restaurant seems like a con in many different ways
Oh well now I learned something new about layers in cakes!! Not that I’m eating more than a 3 layered anyway lol
It's not actually 22 cake layers. it's 11 cake layers and 11 icing layers.....
@@MRSTEEL15 From the review it looks like this place is a garbage restaurant. Artificially inflating the number of layers in the cake is just one example of their shadiness. Another is insisting that the steak was dry aged when it clearly wasn't.
☝️🤓
@@mitchellnathanson2739No ! It was dry and it was aged ! Just not both together 😂😂
If you're doing a Texas BBQ, I recommend you try Barbs-B-Q and Redbird BBQ and order a full tray. They're the #1 BBQ in the U.S.A., and #1 Cajun BBQ in Texas, respectively.
I recommend watching Ant's BBQ Cookout video "I Tried the Best New BBQ Spot in the U.S.A." and "I Tried the #1 Cajun BBQ in Texas."
Thanks for the rec! I'd love to go back to Texas sometime. If so maybe I'll see if I can swing the Eagles Cowboys game again this year
Cake is legit and serves 3+
I’m reluctant to pay the dry-age markup because of having that same experience once too often. Personally, I think there’s some fibbing going on.
It was also a bit surprising that the food runner seemed a lot more professional than the waitress.
Thats perfect med rare to me
I thought this was a family channel! I was watching with my kids.
I hope you all survived the truama.
Lol so what happened that your limp noodle kids couldn't handle?
does dry age costs more? i would go back and taste wet aged steak to compare if it is obviously different or they charge more for the same steak prep
he's in pain again tasting that chocolate cake! lol
when ua does the super squint you know its good stuff
Gotta create a t-shirt with that expression!!
HELLO UA ME AND MY BROTHER LOVE YOUR CONTENT
Your stats blow me away. I know lots of UA-camrs who have 500k+ subs and get maybe 30k in views. Just 7 hours in and you’re at 13k
No way that is dry aged. They just basted the steak with melted blue cheese before serving to scam you. Guga did a video this already. Suggest you see it.
Review Rax Roast Beef please
Welp, I now know where I won't be spending my money at.
UA FTW
Steak had absolutely no fat
Danm. I wanted it to be better, the waitress seemed so nice.
You should have told her that the steak didn't taste dry aged.
Yeah for those kind of prices I'm not rolling with a cheap steak I'm complaining
No juice from the meat when you cut it? And you ordered it medium rare? That's impossible
Not when it's a crappy cut of meat
I sort of shy away from cake when I learned that they will drench the cake in sugar syrup to make it moist. I don’t need type 2 diabetes if I can help it
$22 for a slice of cake 🍰 🤯bonkers
Good review. Perhaps the steak was just dry aged for a very short time?
Another great review. Instead of squeezing the garlic like that but can use the knife to remove each clove 1 by 1. Also spread on bread too if bread's around. It's very good. She "believes" it's $22....LoL, how does she not know? Funny.
Sir, the piece of paper says dry aged, it has to be dry aged, just like everything on the internet, it has to be true, haha! Thanks UA, always enjoy the reviews!
When are you doing a top 5 video of best steaks based on your own experience?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: When UA squints or closes his eyes and rocks back and forth while chewing, he likes the food! :)
It’s UAs food orgasm
@@davidisaacson9543 Haha! Great response! :)
That's what it looks like when he doesn't like it also! I can't tell what's going on til he speaks
Overpriced steak houses in the city almost never pan out
You got served a select or choice grade steak. If it was prime they would have said it was a prime steak in the menu. The waitress said the authentic Caesar salad has horseradish in it, authentic Caesar salad does not have horseradish in it. ua-cam.com/video/XtDXwDBZFMQ/v-deo.htmlsi=6DHk0K0EtLArCRE0
UA...the minute you chopped through that steak i kinda figured it was not going to be good. There should not have been 2 lines of white gristle in a steak of that price.Really...I could have gone to Costco and picked out a killer steak and cooked it on my Webber and it would have kicked that steaks ass..!!.Most of these places now are only hype..stay home, grill your own and save a ton of money and get steak thats just as good...
The harvard club now houses migrants...lol
Is Amber in Brooklyn any good? Looks good on social Media

You're really doing a public service here warning people about these overpriced extremely mid places. Food reviewers can brush off a bad meal as a business expense, it'll be worth it for the vid. But if you're with your family on a special occasion a bad meal can really ruin an evening and add a bitter note to otherwise beautiful memories.
As a steakhouse afficionado, I wholly concur that Strip House is not on par with Gallagher's or Delmonico's (the two I consistently rate most highly).
Strip Club review next?
11th 👍 Hi UA!
whoever told you the hand crush garlic, is garbage haha im also garbage so noticed right away
