    I want a show with Joe and Dave Canterbury talking about survival and doing cool survivalist stuff. They were my 2 faves from Dual Survival and both men need their own show. I would watch it and so would many others I know. Hope some TV exec makes this happen!

    Some great budget friendly knives include a Mora knife, and a old hickory butcher knife. Both under $15. You can mod the old hickory and put a Kephart style profile on the blade to make it a nice bushcraft.

    I love Crkt knives for edc purposes. They are affordable to the point I don't need to worry if I lose it. Or if I come across someone that need it more then me I can give it to them and not be out a lot. Personally right now my two favorite knives are the Crkt minimalist Bowie and the S.P.E.W. Sure I have knives that are more expensive including a Damascus knife with stag antler handled and a few military issued knives but the Crkt knives get the job done and have never let me down.

    Joe - I have the SurvTac7 and it's a wonderful knife but I only use it for expeditions in the back country and it does a beautiful job. My "everyday" knife (not "EDC" in the defensive/offensive sense) is a cheap little neck knife with a tanto blade which does a ton of daily chores for me and sharpens quick even though it is soft steel. I also lean pretty heavy on another cheap knife which is a Cima-1 which was less than $25 (back in 2017). I liked the fact that the sheath was reversible since I am a lefty and this would be considered my EDC blade for the purpose of self defense as per your discussion. It is a sharp knife which feels great in my hand with 7CR17MOV steel and micarta handle and for the price is a nice piece of kit. Great video as always. Keep 'em coming.

    That was excellent. Here in California we have a "Dirk or Dagger" law that dates back to the Gold Rush era. Basically, any stabbing instrument [knife, ice pick, sharpened screwdriver, etc], carried concealed upon your person, immediately deployable, and carried with intent that it be a weapon, is deemed a "Dirk or dagger". A slipjoint pocketknife, opened and thrust under your belt could be a DoD. Most municipalities and universities have a 3" limit on blade length. But hey, after all, it IS the People's Republik of Kalifornia. . .

    Good point about not using it as a tool, a dull knife is more dangerous to you than a sharp knife. Keep it sharp! NC law where I'm from is pretty vague, I think the issue is more of intent in the eyes of LE and courts. You don't want to be carrying with intent as the aggressor or in terror of the public is my take on the subject.

    I agree and disagree. An edc knife is for utilitarian purposes, not just offensive or defensive purposes. Should it be used for something a knife shouldn't be used for, no. But having a quick, go to cutting tool comes in handy for many reasons.

    The edge geometry and heat treat on a knife make a huge difference in how well it performs. An expensive knife with excellent steel if heat treated incorrectly will result in a junker of a knife

    I teach martial arts as well as sword and other edged weapon techniques. I couldn't agree more. I've actually been stabbed twice in my life and I can guarantee you that the twenty dollar Walmart knife will hurt and inflict just as much damage as the thousand dollar Jimmy Lile knife will. Cost means very little. As long as it will sharpen and hold it's edge, that's all that matters.

    Nice video. Makes sense. The last thing a knife represents to me is a weapon. Weird, I know. I’m the folder guy who uses it for all the things you said not to use it for. I’m very comfortable with firearms and Jiu Jitsu but the idea of going toe to toe with another guy with a knife seems absurd in my mind. Mainly from the mental standpoint. Trying to open somebody up at arms length with a blade before they open you seems more real than pulling the trigger. The absolute brass balls it took for people to line up from each other before they hacked each other to death with swords is what I think about when talking blades.

    But he is right. I had a similar thought after ordering a Benchmade, last night. In any situation you need a knife, a piece of steel that’s harder than the material you intend to remove is what you need.

    Hi Joe, first loved you on dual survival. Ok so I have been into knives since I was 5 and I'm 57 now and I own hundreds of knives ranging from VERY inexpensive to grossly overpriced and you are 100% correct. As long as the knife has decent blade steel(will hold a edge) and a good handle/scales (comfortable in the hand) then it is a good knife. Yes there are great knives out there, some affordable some waaaay over priced. Anyway to my point...there are really only 2 EDC knives on the table, the Entrek (+/-$200) and the OERLA (+/-$30) I can't tell the make of the other two but the one in the leather sheath looks more for camping and the dagger...well it has only one purpose lol and it's not general purpose which is what makes a EDC knife. YES they would all make a nice hole in a soft target. BTW good call on the OERLA, they make decent quality knives for VERY affordable prices. Not a sales pitch how ever OERLA are actually VERY good knives, they even use cryogenic tempering which is virtually unheard of in lower priced knives... and keep up the good vids. Oh and in your defense (not that you need it) People should know that when we were in the service not everything made it to your records/ DD214...for a reason, and I am speaking from experience. Anyway stay safe brother :) Steve

      One is definitely a Winkler. Winkler makes a lot of knives specifically for the military community and Winkler makes top quality blades. Yeah, they are expensive but definitely worth it. The only soldier that I know of to serve in both Delta Force and Seal Team 6 (Kevin Holland) highly recommends Winkler blades.

    Hi Joe, 1. Good to see you back making videos. You always spoke the language I could understand. Also, can you go over legality on the subject? I don't like lock back, and am a fixed blade fan. I'm mainly scared that without the blade guard ill push or stab and lose some fingers. Every state has different laws but is there a way to explain it's a tool and not a weapon? In Most cases police want to know why your carrying that. Most states have a 3.5" concealed law. Those are hard to find with fixed blades. In Colorado where I live it's acceptable to carry longer blades but with a purpose and must be visible.

    • @josephtetiofficial
      @josephtetiofficial  3 роки тому +4

      Thanks for commenting. As far as legalities of carrying a particular knife, I suggest contacting your local PD or Sherriff's Dept. to be sure. Each state is different.

      That's what I was thinking of doing, just wondering if you or anyone had any suggestions. Thanks for responding, I'm a little star struck but keep up the good work. That street light video was a great idea. Any more home security videos would help a lot. Our homeless issue has gotten way out of control since covid. I can't afford a fence yet and am off the beaten path so to speak, but occasionally I find crack heads walking through the yard scoping the area. So any suggestions or videos would be awesome. Thanks again Joe!

      You could check out a neck knife. A lot of them have small blades under 3 inches. Me personally were I lived if it is concealed it has to have a blade that is 3 inches or less. I personally carry a Crkt minimalist Bowie and a Crkt S.P.E.W both have blades that are under 3 inches and are extremely easy to conceal. They are also super affordable so if I lose it or have to give it to someone that needs it more then me I am not out a lot of money. Small fixed blade knives are becoming more popular so I am sure with a bit of searching you will be able to find something that fits your needs.

  • @Artstar2
    @Artstar2 3 роки тому +2

    The only fixed blade I carry is the Kbar TDI. It is a 2" fixed blade that attaches to your belt horizontally so you can wear it concealed. Those fixed blades are all great looking knives, but I am guessing you carry it openly like a hunting knife. I am not sure how you could conceal those unless you are wearing a super long shirt that obviously isn't tucked in.
