    I got an '81 225 that I'm rebuilding on a tight budget. It will go in my '74 Dart and used as my daily.
    On my head I've blended the bowl's too the seats ending about half way down, streamlined the valve guide bosses (?) on the side facing the ports and rounded the rest off, and just broke the sharp edge of the short turn radiuses.
    Next I'm going to match the exhaust ports too the largest one and do the same on the intake side. After that, I'll smooth and polish the exhaust side (ports and bowls) and just clean up the intake side leaving a little roughness.
    On my intake (stock 1bbl) I'm going to match the ports too the largest as far as I can reach then do the same on the exhaust manifold (OEM). Once that's done, I'll do what I need for the exhaust manifold port to be a little larger the the exhaust port on the head and the do the opposite on the intake side. This is for helping reduce reversion.
    Only thing left will be milling the head for a 9.1:1 compression, I've already took the lip off the back of the valve. If money allows, I'll have a three angle valve job done.
    I know I ain't going to have a 1,000hp monster. I don't want that. Just wanting to pick up a little extra while it's apart to better suit modern times and make the driver experience a little better while maintaining good driving manners and be reliable for 500k or more.
    Side note:
    Since every time I find the Super Six intake and exhaust manifold it cost an arm and a leg, I'm going to make my 1bbl intake work for me.
    I need to get an adaptor to fit a modified Weber 38 (vacuum secondary) to my intake and I plan open up everything on the secondary side that I can for better flow and weld in a piece of metal in the adaptor coming out the bottom slightly to separate the unopened primary side to keep velocity up. Just going to match the adaptor to the intake plenum on the primary side.
    I think it should work great once done and dialed in how I want it.

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 роки тому

      This set took around 6 hours. Usually I think about 6-8 per head. These needed less because they were pretty open and already over ported on exhaust

    I've found the guide bosses are that large due to core shift. On mine, one cylinder would be centered while another would be so far over it left about .040 on one side with a huge amount on the other. Best to sleeve with bronze and blend the rest out.

    I'm happy that I smoothed and opened the bowls a bit on those factory 302 casting heads I bought from Indy.
    They were cut for bigger valves, but still had a small throat. I wish I could put photos on here....I think it made a Helluva difference....you should've seen the slag in the exhaust bowls. I didn't measure anything...just opened 'em up until a 15/16 socket fell into the bowl (318willrun)...smoothed the transition to the roof.

    The biggest flow problem isnt the pinch in the intake...... its the guide, the back cut on the valves, and the shrouding on both valves..... dodge is known for it..... cutting and tubing the pushrod boss does almost nothing surprisingly......

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  2 роки тому

      I agree. I’ve never tubed one. I did see on Instagram that Steve Dulcich just tubed some heads the other day for his 318 build. You are aligned with my research. I like the For A bodies only articles. Several on there with pictures and flow bench results. I can Monkey see, and Monkey Do.

  • @michschep7601
    @michschep7601 2 роки тому

    The biggest increases will be cutting down the guide ends (dont leave any square edges), and deshrouding the valves..... the pinch point keeps velocity up......

    Just a question why do you open the cylinder head up? Don't you loose compression?

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for asking! Most people don’t know about the common rule for compression. For every full point you raise/ lower, you change your hp by 3-4%(google it, it’s for real). So in a 400 hp engine, a full point would net you 12-16 horsepower. I’m my grinding, I may have lost .3-.5 of a point. But I gained increased airflow from the heads, which could easily counter act or even further offset the porting. Check out David Vizard’s videos. He shows his methods and usually tests on a 10/1 compression engine. I am increasing from a .048 to a .029 head gasket in this engine, which will make it better than its ever been!

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not that ballsy! Being a bracket car, I only want to run it 6-6,500. Cam range is 3,000-7,000, and I only have a 4.10 gear with a 28” slick. I may try the pushrod trick in some older heads I have.

    • @jesusavila7955
      @jesusavila7955 3 роки тому +1

      @@JustMoparJoe @JustMoparJoe calm at first no one is brave ... hhaahaha but believe me the change is potentially drastic.
      I recommend you look for information on how to do intake port based on the work in CSA.
      Over there in the push rod section is where you have the minimum area and that is what determines the total RPM of the engine.
      The formula that You need to know is mcsa (minimun cross sectial área): bore*bore*stroke*RPM*0.00353/613.18
      With this fórmula You can calculated how much area do you need For "X" RPM based in the CI of the engine.
      Now You need to measure the intake Port... Height * width less total área of corners (circule área of total long of corners)
      Well... I wish You the Best for You men i love You barracuda. I have the same combination in Demon but with a 280h cam.

    Great video Joe, when you were grinding to deshroud the valves doesn't that make the combustion chamber a little larger thus lowering compression very slightly and does the increase in air flow worth the modification on closed chamber head like the one your doing! Is it just a small effect.

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 роки тому +4

      Vizard said do it. I know for every full point of compression, you gain 3-4% hp. We know the power is in the heads. I kind of followed his pattern in porting. I’ll definitely show the results 👍🏼
