    I loved this podcast when it first came out and it still holds up. It's always fascinating to hear Taryn's thoughts on religion.

    Also so cool to hear tar’s perspective… I had a “come to Jesus” my sophomore year of college (definitely a last ditch effort to not be gay) and that quickly ended when I realized how much more harmful it was for me than without it

    PK of two here (we're evangelical so my mum is a pastor too). My parents are the most idgaf abt your sexuality type of people. They literally married a wlw couple back in the day when it actually wasn't allowed in church yet but they thought that's stupid and did it anyways. They would also here and there say (I think I started this but they adapted it), whenever we would talk abt relationships when me and my sis were younger, how when we'll marry a guy, and then go, or a woman... Or my mum once ironically said good that you don't have a bf or gf! rn (mind you I'm not 'out' or anything). I grew up believing in a god that wants us to be happy and I've never understood where the sin in being queer is supposed to be... So that's my experience from a religious and very accepting household.

    Thank you for this. I totally get this all. I am a pastor's kid and I have had so much information and stuff shoved down my throat. It's so interesting that despite my constant contact with God and religion that I still am gay. It's hard to have a middle ground on a lot of this, but I think you nailed it. love y'all

    Thank you for resharing this. I listened when you originally posted but this hit differently this time. I in a different place this time. My journey is similar to yours Taryn and I honestly never thought I’d meet someone with a similar story. So thank you for sharing. It was encouraging and uplifting. Wish I could have or hear more conversation like this!

    No one can prepare you for the time when you'll feel the need to say something so personal and truthful about yourself only to deal with the heartbreak of knowing the person who might be sitting in front of you - who you've dedicated love and respect to - won't even simply understand a part of you that you'll never be able to turn your back on. Although these moments are never easy to heal from, I've come to realize that just like these people may never be able to look at you with the same eyes, neither will you at them. There's something quite liberating about it - the slow realization that there's no need to maintain a relationship simply because it made sense with an older version of yourself.
    Thank you so much for the epi

      By their standards, the God I believe in and have committed my life to is either evil, wrong, or does not exist because He does not align with your sexual urges. That is unfair to Christians. You cannot as a human being dictate the very fabric of reality based on sexual preferences and desires. That means sex is god.

    • @GaryDPod
      @GaryDPod 9 місяців тому

      Sexual preference cannot be the standard of what is good, right, and true in the world. It's one thing to be gay, it's another thing to speak on matters of morality based on gayness. Now we all need to question reality because you like girls...

    Taryn - maybe your mom was so close minded about Christianity because traditionally it's been used to persecute Jewish people. Not saying it's *all* but it would be a little scary since it seems like the type of Christianity you started following was very fundamentalist/evangelical.
