The people of and visitors to Edinburgh tend to overlook, even avoid Portobello because it lacks the attractive cliches typically associated with seaside attractions, with the #1 attraction being sunshine and blue skies (they do happen though can't be guaranteed the way they are at, say, St. Tropez or Santa Monica).
But as anyone who knows Portobello Beach and the adjacent community of Joppa (they are typically perceived as being one community - Portobello), this is a unique experience that is more than just a stroll along the esplanade or the wet sands. Indeed, walking the streets of this area between Portobello High Street and the beach reveals the many very fine and interesting homes - there is a wide variety of architectural stylings - that make this such a desirable place to live. Singer Shirley Manson of rock band Garbage now owns a place here, and splits time between it and her home in California. (She is from Edinburgh, her familal home is in Stockbridge.) One can imagine her popping into The Espy for a warm bite to eat on a chilly, damp autumn evening.
It would have been nice to see a bit more of the buildings, but the dogs on the sands really conveyed the idea it is easy to enjoy Portobello Beach without the weather and frills one so typically deems necessary to enjoy such a place.

Love the little tealight building! And of course the tea advent! I purchased the matcha one from David’s Tea here in Canada, but haven’t opened it! I think this willbe my favourite video, simply because it took place on the Solstice!😃🙏🏽🤗 which is what I celebrate 🙏🏽🎉! You’re better than me, lol, when I headed back to the flat I would be staying there 😜! Then again, play date with adorable puppers might / would definitely get me back out the door! They are sooo beautiful!! Ohh those poor birds lol! The scene with the water and birds passing… I could watch a 20 minute video of just that! Wait! I looked up and two dogs turned into three lol! Lol! It seemed the one dog digging the hole was trying to put his head in to escape the other pups barking 😂! I wonder if those audio books have a few different readers for each book, just in case you don’t like the person’s voice!
