- If you’re looking for some day trips to do during your stay in Edinburgh or Glasgow, check these places out:
Portobello Beach, just a few minutes away from city center and a great option for families looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Portobello Beach is a coastal suburb 3 miles east of Edinburgh, facing the Firth of Forth, and just 20 minutes from Princes Street in Edinburgh.
The area offers a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, with Ice cream parlours, arcades and beach-side cafes, found all along the promenade.
The Kelpies are located in Falkirk in Helix Park, just 30 minutes away from city center. Besides the amazing statues, there are some scenic canal tow paths, cycle routes, play areas and cosy cafés nearby. So, there really is something for everyone.
Craigmillar Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Scotland. Built in the 14th century, and used as a country residence. Craigmillar Castle is best known for its association with Mary, Queen of Scots. In Outlander, it was used in Season 3 as Ardsmuir Prison, where Jamie was imprisoned with other Jacobites after the battle of Culloden.
Falkland is about 50 minutes away from Edinburgh center by car, the village of Falkland makes you feel like you stepped back into time. Falkland is located in the Kingdom of Fife, and packs a lot of Scottish History. For any Outlander fans, the village will be recognized as being the 1940’s and 1960’s version of Inverness. Bruce fountain was used in several episodes. The Covenanter Hotel is a real Bed and Breakfast, and was also used in the show as Mrs. Bairds B&B.
Midhope Castle is a 16th-century tower house in Scotland. It is situated on the Hopetoun estate, About 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the west of South Queensferry, on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It is featured as a location in the Outlander TV series Jamie Fraser’s family home called Lallybroch, also known as Broch Tuarach.

Lovely video about the history of my Homeland , i went to school near the Castle and one of the houses in it was called Gilmour and i was in it ' Houses mean in schools that everybody is part of one of 4 Houses , another one was called Wauchope after Major General Wauchope who had lands around the school, and he was killed during the Boer war just before the 20th Century.our Country is so full of history that sometimes it is hard to comprehend . love the narrator she certainly has a lovely voice to listen to .
