Guess weapon switching didn't hit the "priority" bug fixing list...
As a software developer, I can easily say that AGS is under staffed. They clearly don't have enough resource to bring new content or fix bugs or test the game properly. It kinda sucks to hear that. Item description bug on season 5 explains it a lot. I mean that bug could have been detected in 10 seconds which all the players detected in 10 seconds. Clearly, they didn't have enough time to test the game before releasing a new version. That means they are dangerously lack of resource. That also means that it will be almost impossible to get ahead of bugs.
Sometimes you need to stop and breathe right? I understand players are expecting much more content but it is what it is. Content with bugs is worse than "no content". Maybe, it is time to stop a little bit and focus on fixing those bugs. Once everything looks fine, working on a new content might be a good idea.
I know everyone expects a new content but let's face it. AGS won't increase their resource. Maybe it is time to "force" them to fix bugs before creating a new content. Anyway, if they bring more features, I fear it will bring more bugs and it will ruin the game. I really hope they don't do the same mistake and release a new version on June that will be bug free. I really love this game and it would be so sad to see this game going down.
the games been on a death spiral for a year now mate, theyre lacking content (Especially for PVP), there should be more focus on PVP as this game was initially just that a PVP survival game, its time they actually done some serious balance patches for pvp and added significant new pvp content, pvpers been waiting long enough.

I think they doesn't use component matrix. Thats a big mess in a big projects like thi. They doesn't know what components are connected and need to be tested together when changing parts of coding. Also there is problems with merges and people working if diferent builds. Old bugs appear again and again and some features got hidden changes.

Get rid of seasons if you're just going to remove the content. One time content is such a waste of dev time, no wonder this game is where it is.
Over the entirety of 2023, they added so little value to the game. In a given week, the Arena map might be the old one, the 3 Mutated Expeditions might all be ones from 2022 or earlier, Sandwurm & lots of other activities have irrelevant rewards, you can't grind through old battlepasses, cross-server functionality is irrelevant for most regions, and it sounds like we'll get to a point where there will be no active Seasonal Story content to interact with. The biggest additions that remain are microtransactions like Gear Sets, Transmog Tokens, and the paid DLC.
yeah i kind of agree. they don't seem to have the manpower for seasonal content. just remove them altogether it just takes time and resources away from fixing the game

War isn't fun. It's a waste of time especially if you are not sure if you're going to be benched or not based on the bias of the person who has crown.

@@stevenlengyel666 I never said anything about invasions, so duh. War and settlement ownership crown, and taxes shouldn't be a thing at all imho. It should be more like a Battleground Mode so it doesn't affect PVE players. Maybe even still lock the wars behind the influence races but make a special reward that doesn't revolve around hoarding gold.
Casual wars and matchmaking would solve a lot of problems for the PvP community. Please make these a priority!

Sadly, it might be too late for those features to make sense now, in the same way that cross-server functionality is pretty useless when the current player population could fit onto just 7 servers worldwide.
the actual war game mode is not that fun. new world isn't that good with large scale pvp. it's buggy and messy

@@jauffre-bl6lu Odd as it sounds, wars are less buggy for me than OPR is. I enjoy the war mode, but mostly because it's more "organized" and I get to play with/against people I know rather than random people and players who I don't trust to play the game somewhat well or try.
This makes me want to log in and play, but not out of excitement or interest, but out of fear. Fear that the game won't make it to the end of the year.
2% of people get to war because half or more of the territories are owned by the exact same people and their alt accounts. They get into every single war because they are defending their territory, taking up half of the pool of potential users of that content instantly, every single day. A small percentage of people doing a bit of content vs a large percentage as your reason for improving that content is one thing to say, but then we have to wonder why the OPR mode has no updates since launch other than letting people use their mounts, when almost every single player in the game who hits level 50+ participates in this content/mode and they do so regularly. Setting a numerical limit on the number of owned territories would free up those slots for others to fight in wars because other people would own territories. Thats 40 more slots for someone else for each town. One company and their alt accounts in a second one owns 80% of the towns on west and this is well known and hasnt changed for nearly a year now, driving down the warring players every day as people quit. If they want to stop bleeding players, setting a limit of 2 towns would be incredibly easy and it wouldnt hurt anyone except the war loggers who are selling the town gold and who dont participate at all in the rest of the server. Theres no reason less than 100 people should own half a server of thousands of players. Saying that numerical limits isnt a solution is incredibly silly while this game has timegates and numerical limits galore in every iteration its had since launch. we have numerical limits on dungeon usage and according to their numbers "most of the players just do pve"
As ive said over and over again. If they really want to fix it, have all wars happen at the same time on the same day. Saturday at 5pm est or something like that. Prevents warloggers from just doing every war on alts. Allows smaller companies to jump in.
We make around 700€ per month selling the coins on multiple servers :DDD If you know all the exploits its pretty easy to stomp wars on multiple3 servers. Game is a dead shithole only good for beeing milked.

I have really enjoyed my New World experience since I picked it up in Season 3! I've made some really great friends in-game.
While things don't always work perfectly, I understand that improving one thing can absolutely affect another.
I hope AGS isn't too hard on themselves. As Mr. Lane said, just use the past for lessons and keep aiming for the stars. Keep Moving Forward!

I hate that the game is suffering. It truly is my favorite MMO even with the flaws. Admittedly other games have captured my attention lately but will definitely return for any PvP changes.

If you’re unsure if you should implement a change or not, why not ask the player base? It can’t be based to have a pop up or something that “pops” more in the login screen that allows one submitted response per account.

Sometimes I hit my buttons for abilities but they dont work. When will this be looked at?
Territory control divided into 3 parts : the main city worth 50% of the total net worth of the region, add 2 Outpost worth 25% each Put thoses 3 on the same war schedule => Out post mini wars would be 15vs15 or 20vs20 / 25vs25 NO MERCENARIES allowed => Main city still 50vs50 or 40vs40 lower the amount of MERC. This would bring so much hype for every one to try out END GAME pvp content at smaller scale or higher ! 1 territories could be owned by 3 differents guild => Multiply the action by Square 3 per territories !
Regarding pracrice wars: they may impact OPR lobby's some but the overall increase of players returning to the game I think would outweigh that. Players would return to participate with guild/companies to engage with the war scene and might to do some opr's inbetween to practice combat or group comms while waiting for a scheduled war with another co.
I would guess practice wars would usher in a significant spike of player activity for the game.
Another reason why is a lot of melee players don't queue OPR because the mode leans heavily towards ranged dps kiting for solo queue and the rat game play with Zephyr Cakes haste spam isn't enjoyable for our builds. So we opt out (why you don't see bruisers in OPR much, its not a fun experience or the combat style we want to engage in). OPR is a fps gamer mode with some melee 5-stack premade groups here and there.
I agree that casually organized wars should be company vs company declare that two companies agree upon with a set time. And not have casual wars just be an open opr lobby which would only really serve as another opr map lobby. The disorganized nature of random queue for wars wouldn't be enjoyable as not having a healer more or less means you can't play as melee on point.
I'm partial to the idea that x company can offer a war to y company and they can agree on a time to have a war between their companies, preferabky with no mercs allowed to avoid the same current war-logging / merc issues.
If it was made cross-server with a Ranked ladder and leaderboards system it could be pretty epic.
I think it would be better to remove the merc for practice wars, supple and dropouts are never going to accept a challenge from a random company unless it's an attack on their territory because they want strong competition, so them getting to play with the people they want to play with doesn't harm you playing with the people you want to play with.
not having a merc limit means that smaller companies can band together and start warring together (especially important on lower pop servers) so that MORE casual wars can be had with many different people and not necessarily with the same 50 people on your side because they're in the same company.
territory wars should 100% keep their merc limits, but practice wars will allow different groups to team up for some fun without war limits.
practice wars increases the number of wars that can occur on a server (which means more participants) instead of just the 4 a day that is possible. if you want the hardcore gamers to not interfere with the casuals then you have to lower the competition threshold to participate in the wars. races limited the number of wars to 4 a day. so only 200 players a day can participate in a war a day, so only the best 200 players on a server will participate in wars. if that's not you it's literally a skill issue.
they could do a couple things to increase wars from the simplest option of adding more races (potentially making every territory enter a race everyday, making it harder to hold multiple territories if there's enough players on a server to double or triple dec) to the creating a practice war mode. however more wars means the quality of wars overall will decrease.
which means not every war is going to be competitive and most will end up being farm wars when you dec on someone holding 3 territories and they only have 100 people in their company so only 2 wars will have a full roster, and 1 is guaranteed to be a farm war. so yay you "participated" in a war, but you didn't get to play the game because they could only have 10 mercs. the merc limit is what made it impossible for 1 company to own the entire map on an active server. they buffed company ownership by adding races, so now a company can realistically only hold 3 territories at most. the rest will be triple and quad dec'd away from them on an active server. if a company owns more than 3 it's a sign that there aren't enough players willing to participate in wars on that server (which is most servers these days).

Since season 5 nearly^every day in OPR the game crashes and then I cannot get back into OPR for over an hour due to being blocked. When will this finally be fixed?
The rewards for hard end game content will never be "up to snuff" with the current gearing system. All of the end game gear is just a shuffle of 3 of the same perk buckets you can craft or drop anywhere else. You can release as many beautiful creative dungeons as you want but when 90% of the player base already has their bis then there is no reason to do it. A full gearing a drop overhaul is the only thing that will save this game from a PvE perspective.

I think it makes perfect sense to step down the number of episodes, since we're all effectively in a holding pattern until June. Glad to see Dave back again. Happy to hear Q&A gets a 5x improvement. While I've stepped away from NW right now, it is very encouraging to hear the effort being put toward technical debt. Neat idea RE: gathering artifact. Some times I log into NW just to aimlessly gather some resource just to do it, with no larger goal in mind, so I would love to see these introduced! Thanks again, all.
I would like to see more passive points effects based on armor loadout for better combat balance. The flail has some nice passives that gives you bonuses depending on what type of shield you have.
Nice update. As someone who manages software teams / consults on process improvements, it would be awesome to get a little 'behind the scenes' video one day on your dev process. A bit like the famous Spotify engineering culture video?

when something is added to a company, it means some development, more content related to companies + history of what is happening, there are many things that can be expanded in companies, just like other mmorpg games?

I don’t see how a game like this can be developed with a “risky approach” strategy plan.
Theres an easy way around the hard numerical limit to a company owning towns. Set every single town a company owns to the same race/invasion/war day and time window so they can no longer capture multiple territories on different schedules and avoid being double and triple declared as they do currently. This would affect only a tiny subset of warring players. It would sort itself out to 2 territories automatically since they need 40 in house slots to defend in a war and that would take 80 players to do on the same night. Any extra towns would not be slotted fully and lose naturally, and they would be disincentivized to continue doing so and "losing" regularly. Losing wars makes them lose face and hopefully self regulate
If they want to fix wars its a simple fix. Have all wars happen at the same time on the same day.

i played new world when it came out - honestly was super fun game with the axes or any weapon the animation and the impact of hitting things and the sound of hitting objects in the game is on of the best out there in the mmo genre i guess my problem with the game was that ANYTHING that broke immersion for me really pissed me off - nobody not even the great blizzard understands anymore that Immersion is MMO you break immersion you break your game
All most of us who left the game wanted was new pvp content and you gave us anything but.
As I have already said in other videos, it is always nice to cross the territories and hear the music, the sound effects, enjoy the graphics, the various panoramas, the various locations, as well as in the various expeditions. The work you have done on the graphics and audio sector is really good, and now I also find the management of the character's attributes good, the mechanics of the various weapons and armor, the combat system is not bad either.
But what is missing is the foresight of the game, its planning over time, the organization in the strict sense of the progression of the game.
Why did daily player numbers go from 500k to less than 50k?
Because the game is stalled, it's stopped, there's no progression, there's no grinding. The player is not hungry in wanting to progress.
You must rationally plan the release of the important DLCs that will give progression to the game.
And not by making them pay, but by leaving the game free to play but with a subscription, for anyone who wants. With the subscription the rewards will clearly be greater and the character progression will be faster. But nothing should be inhibited for the free to play player. This is the best solution for western states when it comes to mmo.
Technically speaking, for example, you can date n. 2 dlc per year, which will have to implement a new territory and also a new expedition. The enemies will have to have a higher gear score than the previous DLC, but the player will have the opportunity to build new armor that is also better than the previous one. New materials will have to be implemented, therefore new farming and new crafting, but which are actually useful and highly necessary, so even the emporium will always be a nice activity to carry out, the new materials will have to be found in the new territories but also in the old ones, perhaps in new structures with higher rank.
You have to be mathematical and rational and plan for the future if you want the game to stay up because you are losing more and more players every day and this is a shame for a game that has a lot of potential but is poorly managed.
IMHO, great session. Important developers+QA understand the current state and most of issues. I would recommend to do "bug fixing" release before Console release happens. The player base will be increased and they would have great experience without straggling with bugs. Recommendation to devs -> do not listen to high-end players only (yes, they are active and have own view on game). 3% in Castle battles -> should be increased to 5-10% at least. 20% PVP players -> it would be increased if players (specially a new players) fight again similar by rank. I would prefer to wait 1 minute in queue and have 20-30 mins great experience at OPR then have short join with OP players... Similar to 3x3 Arena. It would increase players part in PvP content. IMHO, the leveling to 65 is TOOOO quick. Mostly in 1-2 days You can do it... and later 1+ weeks to finish main story line, equipment, etc... Yes, the game has 100-200 hours enjoyable content. Please do not remove Season content -> adapt it or keep it. For new players, it is optional story line/quests... For solo players it's great. QA team + Developers should concentrate on polishing the current status without concentrating on very specific feature for 0.1-2% players. The tooltip feature -> would be nice to see information to "which Quest the item is related". Right now, You see "it's quest item" :) Thanks. Please improve communication and information to players. Example, no patch notes after 1st may update... still the "old" string event on main game info side. Event is over -> remove it.
I think end game like wars in this MMO can be fixed by just taking out the company aspect of owning territory. It should be Faction driven not company driven. This way everyone can take part and feels part of the end game and not the 1% or 2% hardcore. This way Factions mean something and if your faction owns a territory, each member can get maybe 200 coin a day for each territory that faction owns. Players that would get into the wars would be open for anyone to sign up from that same faction and the players would be randomly picked from the war board list to fight in the war. The game should be fair for everyone to have a chance to play everything the game offers and this way I believe would make open world influence race even bigger too and everyone in the dog would fight for 200 coin per territory a day. ( Companies should still be in the game, but not run the game )

June is just the announcement. The June announcement won't go live till September or October. By that time the game might have 5k people playing lol

How has the question not been asked or answered on why the new combat code in season 5 broke PvP animations and caused major delays in weapon swapping abilities etc not been discussed here? Are you fixing it?
Being bug free is an illusion, even the best games out there have bugs ... They might just be less noticeable. So saying you're going for a bugfree experience is either naive or disingenuous.
You can always strive for perfection, even if that's an impossible outcome. But in AGS' case, I get the sense they spend a lot of time manipulating their metrics to create the illusion of perfection, without any consideration of what the actual game looks/feels like.
I still appreciate these dev updates! Totally okay to put them off for awhile while this major release gets pushed out. I enjoy talking about new world but I can see how it's tough when your community keeps hammering the same questions that you can't answer.
As a developer, I am curious what some of the pains in your guys build process are. It was interesting to hear how the item perk tooltip bug snuck in during a last minute hotfix. It's a problem of being stuck between a rock and a hard place on that one. Fix the bug, and risk build issues on release, or don't fix the bug, and have people complain about that bug once it's released.

Flip the rewards for Wars and Influence Races. Make wars social and practice for companies, make Infuence Races the thing that governs territory ownership after win/loss. It would definitely give more players incentive for open world pvp, and allow those without groups/5 mans to participate in medium-large scale pvp

And then players say AGS can't make replayable content.
As far as new content, wars, inclusivity, etc… it’s a SIMPLE fix that AGS is just to stupid to realize.
New PvP mode… “Fort Frenzy”
Players are placed on either attack or defend teams. The mode plays out exactly how wars do.
Not only is this a 3rd and different variation of a pvp mode, which people have been begging for forever now, it would also help solve the issue of certain companies owning “too much” territory.
Wars are intimidating in the beginning and the only way to get better at them is to experience them.
If you haven’t established yourself as a competent pvp’r then, good luck even getting slotted in a war.
Having a mode where people can practice and get better would absolutely shake up metas, territory control and we would absolutely see new companies start taking territories from the same companies who have pretty much always had control on servers.
There are countless benefits of implementing something that’s already in the game and literally has no down sides to it. It’s the least amount of work they could do to satisfy the largest amount of the community and player base.
If a casual can think of something this positive and big for the game and AGS can’t, people need to start getting fired and replaced.
That’s simply a lack of care on AGS part.
The amount of replayability in just a simple game mode like that, the new pvp mode that everyone has been begging for that’s different than 3v3 or Opr, more end game content.
Aside from actually fixing the game, since it’s such a mess of flaming trash, this is the absolute easiest thing AGS could do to satisfy the vast majority of the community. Yet in all of their incoherent rambling ALL THIS TIME, they haven’t even hinted that this is a possibility in their line of thinking.
AGS is out of touch with their game, their community and at this point, the only way to actually save New World is for them to either restaff the entire dev team, or sell the game to someone with half a brain cell. It’s embarrassing that a casual player can come up with a better idea on the spot and off the top of their head than the entirety of the AGS dev team.
It’s not a bad game, it’s a bad dev team.
Nobody wants New World to fail. The potential it has is limitless and we all WANT it to be successful.
They frustration towards the dev team is 100% warranted.
This is not AGS first game. They have tried and failed many times with many games already.

“Fort Frenzy” is the only new content needed to satisfy a vast majority of the player base. When that’s done, FIX THE FKN GAME! It’s broken, to the core BROKEN!
Range weapons should not have RNG of where tf there shots go or whether or not their crosshair even shows up when they pull their weapon out!
Aim dead center of the screen and shots fly top right and off screen.
Imagine how stupid and frustrating that is to bow players who use rapid shot. Or any Range player to see that kind of stupidity happen constantly. When 50% of your shots don’t go anywhere near where you’re actually aiming, that’s not a difference of opinion topic, that’s fuckin broken, fuckin FIX IT you absolutely useless devs!

the problem is the game loop/content hasnt changed sins launch. endgame is: Chest runs, Expeditions, OPR. Running the same chest runs sins year one(2 new spots ooooo), the same Mutations sins Year one (like 3 new ones oooo) and the SAME OPR map sins year one. ZERO new endgame content WORTH doing.
I'm encouraged by this as a player from 1st beta with 2k+ hours in. My greatest disappointment had always been reward: time played for such rewards. And that combat has always been in a beta stage, buggy state. Im the only one of 10 family/friends to reach end game pve or pvp. I have completed everything in game at least once, at the time ive posted. I am most concerned about this June announcement. I'd love to see a change that resembles a re-release that incintivises current game owners to give it another shot. Also a clear road-map of things new player NEED for end game push.

Said it before and i'll say it again. Love these vids and love the dev team for being honest and hard working. I'm not playing New World at the minute just because of other games and life taking its place. But the open nature of dev/player communication is leagues ahead of anything else in the industry.

3:00 I like to enjoy them as background stories, and would feel quite comfortable at 2-3 a year. maybe even 1-2. my hands are pretty full running' around Aeternum as it is ;)

2% of players get to war
20% of players play OPR
Is the thought not there that maybe if war was more accessible then not all, but a close to 20% of players might want to do it. Not to mention any big update that can include up to 18% of people into war might encourage even more to try it out as well. Based off of those numbers and just being a player myself I would say that if it was accessible would the possibility of having up to 20% or even more players be able to war not make it a somewhat priority. I mean a good chunk of questions are about lack of content and this is one of the only late game things that exist that is repeatable and yet only 2% can get into it.
I'm very aware that it is gatekept but the current design and lack of servers makes that very very hard to not do.

You know, I usualy get frustrated on devs, but this time a moment of silence for the guy who picked up questions. Gathering artefacts? Limited amount of territories?! For a 10th time the ask about War and War loggers to hear the same answer as 10 times before?! Come on man, they do not play their own game and are disconneted with its issues, so could you at least?
I.e. How could we not ask about Slayer Script and that awful ice-skating, t-posing/flying cases, broken weapon swap/skill not working mess that it brought?

@Scott, 14:03 you said you have 2 factions internally regarding the 'owning territory' limitations. WHY are you discussing them internally and debating instead of bringing BOTH sides on the table to the community and letting US WAR PLAYERS help and decide because we most most definitely know better than you regarding what is best option to do. Tell us WHAT are the stuff you are disagreeing on internally what is the 'logic' of each side of why limiting territory is a good idea or not a good idea. And we will ANSWER that !! ^^

The simple way to increase War mode participation is to make all wars in a Region launch at thr same time. This would increase player activity in the game significantly and make it easier for more bands of players to find competitive wars near their level.
not everyone in a region is in the same timezone, would have work or other commitments outside of the game ergo the seige times of a company usually try to avoid affecting most on their company and try not having their seige the same as another on the server, what youre asking would actually make people less able to war than already do.
@@Rickiwot You can always play on West for war content. I live on West coast and have done war on East since launch.
Also the increased access of the masses outweighs the concerns of the minority who may have a conflict. The devs could also shuffle the times around per region by month. So one month all East wars launch at 7. The next month they all launch at 9.
Easiest solution though is as I first stated, all wars per region should have one time slot. Players that have an IRL conflict can play in a different region to war. Or play both regions war timers.
Also, for full companies there are conflicts on every time slot every single war. Moving all timers to one slot would increase war accessibility and play rates by 5-10x the current individual player counts that have access. So instead of 2% of the player base engaging in war it would easily go uo to 10-20% of the player base or more

@@larkwyll7351 also the "players that have an IRL conflict can play in a different region to war" is actually a very unintelligent thing to say as most people play with friends and people they have made friends with since an earlier time, so effectively youll make a bunch more people just up and quit the game because you want everyone to war all wars at the same time in a region because it suits yourself?, brother just no.
What you also dont get is people in a war need to play to a meta and specific roles and either learn quickly or have prior experience, its why metas and roles actually exist for wars and they dont for anything else or matter really for anything else, people also have to have the specific gear as well, I take it you havent warred at all or very little and dont really understand that wars are hyper specific roles in a roster.

This was a Trick/Trick idea on wars, and I very much support this idea. The main fight would be for the town with a 50v50 fight just like now. Winning this would give one 50%control of a territory. While at the same time two other fights in that territory are going on with 25v25 that would each get 25% control each depending on who wins those fights. This would allow for more people to have a part of the war system and not just the large war guilds and alts. If any question on this ask Trick/Trick.
I like them taking time. It allows for better content.

The first thing Dave said about the June announcement makes me feel like this is going to be all about LOTR. things like making sure the community "understands" etc but the way New World has been handled the last few months makes me far less excited about them releasing another MMO
I don't like "Risk Based Approach" towards any of the products i invest.
Territory Control should be Faction Based ONLY, and Influence Races should be what allows it.
Wars should be a Ranked leaderboards thing, a company event where companies go to the instance like OPR.
You know what helps with wars and territory. Not merging servers. You did all this cross server stuff just to merge regardless. Next, you act like the war player base is small by choice, not by gatekeepers. Seriously, just look at what is happening with Lilith after merges. Those ppl couldn't get content on their old server anymore, so they went to take over Lilith, a place new players were able to war. Either make practice war mode a thing or open more servers and remove server transfer fee.
I think opr’s need roles the problem with opr’s being unbalanced is because one team has 4 healers and the other has one also the amount of bows and muskets on one team compared too the other is ridiculous
Need more opr map if you want more ppl to engage into it now its only 20/100 because its 1 map
