We had portable battery banks, they are like the size of a phone and last forever

Sorry that they let the bathrooms get so bad. We went in 2018 and they were pristine for outhouse bathrooms.
Maybe at times they just get bad
What about snakes were they a hazard?
I was warned about snakes, tarantulas and scorpions but luckily didn't see a single one
