I’m revisiting this video that convinced me to get these pickups a year ago. That has been the best decision I could do to improve my Tele, they sound absolutely great. Regardless this video is a few years old, it still valid.
I had a telecaster for a long time and tried various pickups. When I put Texas Specials in that was it. They are hot but for blues and Rock they can;t be beat. They have all the power of any humbucker but the nice chime. Also the neck pickup is very sweet sounding. I ended up selling it but I am on the quest for another Tele. I can't decide on the thinline or regular tele.
Darrell Braun Guitar Nice channel by the way. Can you do a mod of a Gretsch Streamliner (the hollowbody model) with TV Jones or standard Gretsch pickups? The Broadcasters sound good but they lack some of the vintage Gretsch sound. Streamliners have a moveable bridge. Would it be possible to keep the bridge in a permanent fixed position without altering the sound of the guitar?
Darrell Braun Guitar While I have your attention, I have a quick question. I have a MIC Squier Bullet HSS Strat that is partially modded at the moment. I have a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 in the neck, a Lace Holy Grail for Strat in the middle, and a Gibson '57 Classic in the bridge. I want to move the volume knob to the right of the neck pickup and add a 500k tone knob for the humbucker in the bridge. My '57 Classic sounds good running at 250k but I want to have control over its tone. Do you think that this idea will work? I've watched many of your videos, especially your mod videos so it would be great to hear your opinion. Thanks.
This is definitely one of the better demos for these pickups on UA-cam. I've had a set of these sitting around for awhile. Think I'm gonna go ahead and put em in, should I up the pots to 500k? These are pretty hot right?
Hi, amazing playing as usual, I just bought a beautiful Fender Player Tele in Sunburst, and thinking about changing the stock pickups to the same as your tele (Custom Shop Texas Specials), I mostly play blues and melodic stuff, will I notice much of a difference? Is it much of an upgrade from the stock pickups in the fender player tele? Thanks Darrell
Thanks for the great demo! I'm getting one of those guitars, the Fender MIM Deluxe Thinline - as I don't enjoy noiseless pickups, which it comes with, I was going to get the supplier to swap out the pickups for me, for either the Fender CS Nocaster set, or the Texas Specials, or the Twisted Tele set... - which would you recommend? I use very light strings, GHS 08.5 to 40, I play many different styles, jazz and bossa, funk fusion, reggae/ska, some country and a whole lotta blues!
Going to be putting together a Tele Thinline Partscaster and picked up a set of these for it. i had the Strat versions in a late 90s MIA Lonestar Strat and really liked those so figured i would like the Tele versions too. Seeing this just reinforced that. I picked up a wiring harness for it that has a volume knob for each pickup and a master tone. Will probably add a 4-way switch at some point too. Great video and Channel.
Yooo Darrell, love your channel. Quick question, is that chord progression you start up at 1:40 or so another song? It sounds a lot like a song I've been writing and wondering if I nicked it from somewhere subconsciously, or if just a common progression. I don't want Radiohead to come after me or something ;) thanks for all you do to make this a great channel!
Darrell what capacitor are you using on your tone pot? Is it a 22 or a 50? (or thereabouts?) I am curious because I bought Fender Custom Shop Texas Specials for my Squier Thinline mahogany (can't believe how beautiful and precise this guitar is made) I am leaning more toward a deeper, richer tone leaning into the jazz direction, although I love the blues and good old fashioned rock and roll too. I do however want to get totally away from any ice pick tones. A maple neck without a rosewood cap is all the brightness I need. Let me know. Thanks.
I just bought a American Pro I, you know, with the V-MODS. Is there any way you could comparte the v-mods, vs. the Texas Specials? I'm feeling like something's missing with the V-MODS from the PRO 1...
I have an F hole tele body I'm using..........I also have these pickups I'm installing.........that settles it this combo is going together!!!! thanks for vid! thumbs up!
I have a solid body tele with the same pups, and it sounds completely different than what you’re playing. I do usually go for a Keith Richards sort of sound with it, so there’s that.
The ones on my 62 reissue telly MIJ 1997 have the E and the B string pole pieces way lower than the rest in the bridge pick up. I’m told that’s intentional is that correct?
What song are you playing when you start the melodic part with the backing track ? It's very familiar sounding. Love your videos, great playing, you have the touch, tone and feel that's the sign of greatness !
pickups sound amazing. Would you recommend for a "classic rock sound" like the stones, ac/dc, stevie ray vaughn? Also, at 4:09, amazing track. The rhytmn part of the backing track was that done on your guitar with the texas specials? Do you have the link of where I can buy them? I wish contiued success in your music. Thank you.
Wow. For every topic I want to nose aobut, you have a video up¡ Awsome. SO my doubt now is if it is possible to identify these pick ups by looking at them. Is there writen Texas Special anywhere at the back? or an acronym or something to differentiate them from other ones? cheers
+Ces McLakon I'm glad the channel is helping out! Unfortunately, I don't remember any specific writing on the pickups notating the model. The white wrap on the bridge pickup is usually a good indication though. They also have waxed lead wires :)
+Darrell Braun Hey again, great video, is this MIM Standard tele with a squire CV Thinline body, did you have it customized like that? Sorry if I am asking to many questions...
no they are not but both are superb you have to have the settings and the right amp though for the Tex mex but when you find it they are my near favorites they are a good bit cheaper than Texas specials and the ones he is using are custom shop T specials and they are even more than standard T specials but heavenly
Thanks for the info. I just bought a set of these for a mex tele swirl I just got. Didn't like the stock much so think these will sound real good in it
Darrell Braun Guitar hi the same for my American special but my bridge pick up has not flat poles like your. Same tip? Lower the volume and tone and higher the amp? Thanks!!
Look up Brad Paisley and his demo of the Dr. Z Therapy. It's one of his amps, and he's playing his '52 reissue Telecaster, which is one of his main guitars. Brad cranks that thing up, and plays all kinds of genres on that thing. Country (his primary genre), Rock, and Blues. Or see any of Brad's videos demoing any Dr. Z amplifier. I could listen to that middle position all day. Picking up these pickups.
Yup same.
love this demo, especially you're rythym part it reminded me of RHCP and you really showed to range of these pickups bro, good job
+Ibrar Mohammad Thanks, I appreciate it!
Your sound, lighting and camera setup has improved much in the last 6 years... :)
Darrell u forgot to mention that these pickups can do metal. I have them in my MiM. What a Rockers guitar!
Much love to you Darrell. This is totally a vintage video but still awesome. You're the man! 😎

Try some Bare Knuckle Brown Sugar PUPS and come back to me. Those destroy these things.
@@kommi1974 haha..those destroy these things..

I put these pickups in a MIC Squier Affinity Tele two years ago. My guitar sounds great now. These pickups are awesome!
Nice! I agree

I think that would be a cool mod!
Thanks for playing a good amount of clean sounds.
Man those Texas specials sure sound fine.
Are these your favorite Tele pickups? I'm looking for some with more mids and power for my MIM Player Tele. Thanks!
I also would like to hear his opinion on this.
@@drenrin2120 I just posed the question: Texas Special vs. Tex-Mex vs. Quarter Pound?
+1 on this question.
Your an amazing player, I'm a big fan of all your videos. Thank you for taking the time and making them.

Beautiful playing! So young!

10 months later, but no, I doubt that would be a huge upgrade. The pickups you have already are pretty damn good.
@@jackhaugh 1 year later, thanks for the insights, I was thinking to upgrade my stock Player Series pickup to Texas Special.

Hi!
That's a tough choice.
I think the TS are good for a thicker type sound and the nocaster are better for a vintage classic sound. ☺
Darrell Braun Guitar I think I might go with the Nocasters on this one. Appreciate the insight!
Fender Texas Special vs. Fender Tex-Mex vs. Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound?

Is it illegal to play a Telecaster with power chords and overdrive 🤔, trying to find a video is like trying to find Bigfoot 😂
