This is my first year homeschooling and I have a kindergartner. I have been stressing myself out about not wanting to mess my kid up while I try to figure this out. Thank you for sharing your schedule and your experience. Being able to see that I don't have to spend all day 'teaching' and filling the day with activities and things was so reassuring and helpful.

Good for you!! I totally understand all of those feelings and had them myself! It helps so much to hear from moms who are doing it/have done it and can give real life examples! It's way simpler than we make it out to be in our heads! Lol! I hope y'all have an amazing year! Here's my latest K video for my 3rd child: ua-cam.com/video/B0tnE8JcOLA/v-deo.html (The only change is we're using a different math book!)

I’m watching this video over and over to gain the confidence that I can do a bare bones curriculum with my second. I did MFW Kindergarten with my first and it was a lot of fun but also took a lot of time. With my 4th baby coming I need simple!

☺️ congratulations on baby #4!! Shew yes, simple is way less stressful and still absolutely fine! They will pick up on the things you're teaching to your older kids too, so they will learn more than what you're actually sitting them down to learn!

Thank you for this video! I aspire to teach my kids at home, or at least part home/part school. My oldest child is starting 1st grade this year and I’ve been very anxious and apprehensive about how to start 😭 can’t wait to see more of your content for more direction

That's amazing! How old are your other children! I have a first grade and second grade video too! My oldest is in third grade this year so that video will be coming soon ;) feel free to ask any questions you have! It's scary trying to tackle something new but it's usually not as hard as we assume! ;) you're totally capable!!

    Hello
I am a mother of four. My 1st grader was on zoom in kindergarten last year. The results are she is skill on a pre k level not reading no recognization of most. Hardly writing because she missed the concept of everything I decided to place her back in kindergarten My question is was that the right decision If not what can I do with no skills to teach and how do I help her without stressing her

Great question! I'm so sorry she had to do Zoom for kindergarten! 5yos need to be playing and touching the things they're learning! I think you made a good call and one that I've heard a lot of parents made this year (to hold their kids back). Better for her to master skills before being thrown into a grade that's above her skill level! I wouldn't put too much pressure on the reading because honestly a lot of kids aren't developmentally ready to learn to read until 6 or 7, but public schools want everyone to be on the same level - that's just not how we were created! We're all different! But we do love the Hooked on Phonics app - that's something you'd want to sit with her and do together though. Just look for fun, everyday things that teach simple numbers & counting and even adding!

    • @TheJohnsonCrew

There are lots of different ways to go about it, but everything I suggested in this video has worked well for us, so I recommend starting with those things!

I helped my sister homeschool her 4 kids- she spent 10-12 hours each day homeschooling them. I'm sitting here with my 3 kids like "why are we in and out in 1.5-3 hours normally?" (We get drawn into side conversations) My husband is telling me it's "because you do a bad job" my kids can recite some of what they learned, they each have their subjects that challenge them (didn't/don't we all?) Which I recognize and accept. Admittedly when I helped her I'd sit at the table thinking "this is chaos, I can't concentrate, how can these kids?!"

10-12 hours?! Shew! That's the whole day!! I'm with you, it should not take that long at all! Even in the high school years! Kindergarten you can for sure knock out pretty quickly each day! Sounds like you're doing exactly what you should be doing for your kiddos! Don't doubt it for a second!

Wow, I'm so sorry! I've heard that a lot from parents of kids who were doing zoom public school last year. That's a tough way for a 5/6yo to learn! I would recommend watching Leap Frog's "Letter Factory" video to help with letter recognition and sounds! And getting the "Endless ABCs" app! That one is super helpful! Hooked on Phonics has a "Pre-Reader" Level in their app that you can start with while she's still mastering her letters, then you can move into the "Reader" level! Those are all fun things to do that shouldn't stress her out!
