Stunning tone and fluidity on the tenor sax. Vocals so perfect with the subtle falls, crescendos and tonal variations that mimic her chosen instrument. Glorious harmonies on the piano. This is just perfection.
Eloquently accurate description sir. Thank u
Wonderfully stated
At 17 years of age Andrea Motis arrived on the jazz scene with the effect of a nuclear missle with her wonderful album "Live at Jamboree" Andrea must have been born with the essence of jazz in her DNA. She can nail any ballad specially when the lyrics are difficult and puts so much emotion and sensitivity into her singing and playing. The others members, all terrific jazz musicians in their own right, back her to perfection making this quintet one of the best around today.
Can't agree more. This Jamboree session is historical. I keep watching it over & over again.
"I fall in love too fast."
Apparently, so do I...
Dan Williams: I am the same way. Can't tell you 'How Many Times I Have Fallen In Love Too Fast" But, I can tell you the LAST time I fell in love was 26 1/2 years ago when I met my husband. We only knew each other for one date and that was it for both of us. We married two months later. Never been happier in my whole life and we Still feel that way about each other. Amazing!! ChannelMaster720 that is so sweet! :)

This is what music is supposed to do, You can feel it.
Henry, it's all about the feeling! You are so right. From the heart, from the heart!
jazztemple2 love it ,, beautiful song , beautifully sung although her timing is slightly off I still love it
@@doreenmitchell6117 I think it was intentionaly off because, you know, jazz and stuff.
This young girl is unbelievable! 22 years old and she sings beautifully and plays excellent trumpet and sax! And she is very cute! What a joy to find her videos!!!
As an avid Jazz lover and frustrated jazz pianist myself, I’m embarrassed to say I only discover Andrea (and Joan Chamorro) recently. On UA-cam in fact. I’m absolutely hooked. Such passion and expression. Her syncopation in many of the Latin rhythm songs sends me. The way she does Meditacio is out of this world. I’ve tried to mimic that timing while playing it on the piano and I’m left in a puddle of tears.. from my ineptitude. Oh how I’d love to hear and see her perform live.
You are absolutely right !❤
I just now stumbled on to this - not sure how - but my beleaguered soul needed this desperately.
You can spend hours listening to music and not find anything as musical as this performance. Yes Andrea is talented, but the masters here are Scott Hamilton and Ignasi Terraza. That piano solo had Bill Evans paying attention...just beautiful!
The guitarisst is diviine as well.
For me, this is the five minutes of perfection.
Gracias.
her not-so-confident posture is so endearing. she's so good and yet her body language is not cocky and proud.
Myau Rey Shes very modest , but so sophisticated
as well
she is an old soul, beyond ego
+Frank McCarthy-- you got that right. That's the most insightful comment I've heard about this kid's nature. Thanks for putting it out.
With time she got better and better, expanding her repertoire and her capabilities. But still, on the stage she keeps simple, grounded, light-years far from any stardom behavior. A fully blossomed musician now, and she leads her own group. Simply admirable.
Strange for a trumpet player... xD
she, like Chet, plays the way she sings, and sings the way she plays...that's the secret to this incredible sound...thanks for showing them how it's done, and much success to you with your talents. It's all about the phrasing...
Andrea .Kissss and god bless you forever. And the guy who plays the contrabass is a great too.Pianist ,guitarist .sax, drums all wonderful.Thank you all .God bless all
Man - how good is this interpretation? Beautifully sung by Andrea , Scott Hamilton on sax, sublime trumpet from (again) Andrea - and other-worldly piano (Wish I knew his name - he's just brilliant). I've been following Andrea Motis' from when she first appeared on UA-cam - I think everything she's done has been spectacular. I sincerely hope she sticks with it, she is something VERY special.
Her trumpet solo and final vocal chorus leave me absolutely speechless - performed with such feeling!
This song is like a first kiss, a love that is enduring, but most of all "this" sultry beautiful piece played well
I'm like putty when i hear this lady sing........ Thanks again Joan...
18 years old? gifted and talented, playing with seasoned musicians. now at 22 everything is coming into focus. she came here to share her gift with everyone. we are all so lucky!! thank you andrea.
She's fantastic, Mr. Piano himself, has got to be the best piano man in all of Spain, Scott Hamilton-what can I say that hasn't already been said about Scott and Joan, the master and leader of them all. Bravisimo!!!!!!!!!
The way Ignasi Terraza feels the love is terribly real: sweet beginning, passion, confusion, drama, end. This guy thinks the music outside its language.
I just stumbled upon Joan and Andrea yesterday - a wonderful surprise. I have listened to about 6 songs now, and each one has been like opening a beautiful present. I was unaware of Scott also - I have missed out by not knowing all of them much sooner.
This was from 7 years ago so Andrea is about 18 years young. Such warmth and feeling in her singing and trumpet playing. What an amazing artist. Thank you Joan !!
She is a female Chet Baker for sure. A Little big women and are super star on the international Jazz sky. I hope that I see her in Southern Scandinavia soon. I live in Sweden cloose to the danish border.
This girl is a gem
U got dat right! 💎
Dont forget the band
U got dat right!.....greatest piano plyr
'n solo Evrrrrrrrr!!.....Ignasi da Great!!!
this brings tears to my eyes. i want to performe like this someday
Consistency my friend, stick with it
Andrea begins the song with regrets. She’s fallen in love with love. As the story develops, she heightens the mood through a poignant performance accented with a tender trumpet solo. By the time the song ends, she has produced a one-act play. Thus, the rare talent of Andrea Motis.
It is so nice to be hearing the song again. Jazz is not common any more.
So true, but thank goodness there’s a bunch right here. Just gotta keep clickin’ around to find it. 👍
Thank you youtube algorithms! I wish someday I meet somebody who gets me like you do 😅 this is just sublime ❤️
SHE'S SO VERSATILE IN HER INTERPRETATION, REALLY INCREDIBLE!!!
I've probably played this song a 100 times, fascinated by the emotion that Andrea expresses in her voice and trumpet, the solos by Scott and Ignasi are equally relevant so that this feeling of the sadness of unfulfilled love is sustained throughout the song. An authentic story of a young woman searching for love and getting burned each time, exquisitely put in music. Jazz as an art form.
How do you know the story is authentic? The words were written in 1944 by songwriter Sammy Cahn.
@@geezergonewile My comment doesn't relate in particular to the specific words of the song. People searching for love and getting burned is a story that has occured since the beginning of civilisation. I just commented that in my opinion Andrea can put so much emotion into her performance that it makes one wonder if Andrea herself has been through this experience.
I could listen to you guys and Andrea all day. Her voice and trumpet playing are so beautiful it hurts.
This made a grown man cry it was is so beautiful, nice arrangement and her eyes, she is gorgeous, such emotion, a million thumbs up!
This popular American Songbook masterpiece was written by Jule Styne (music) and Sammy Cahn (lyrics) in 1944 and introduced by Frank Sinatra in the 1945 film “Anchors Aweigh.” I've heard many versions. This is one of my favorites. Outstanding! Gets better every time I listen.
Scott Hamilton slays his solo!
@@supersquare Yes he does!
THAT PIANO SOLO
And the rest was just ordinarily brilliant.
He's great. That solo is tasteful choice after tasteful choice, it's superb.
Jazz is the most beautiful genre of music there is. It connects generations.
The first time I heard Scott Hamilton playing on theses songs, I thought It was Stan Getz. He has that quality!
The closest to Getz that I have heard
This only gets better with time
I've been following these guys for several years now and never get tired of listening to them. Spain is rich with jazz. They do it well.
Definitivamente, soy fan! Seguid así :)
I fall in love with her music! she's not only beautiful, actually her music touch the soul.
These people make the best music anywhere...so tight.
Love the song, love the singer, love the tenor and love the quintet :)
I heard this tune at Basin Street in NYC in the 1940s. I like this rendition much better. Andrea does a great vocal. The group does a terrific backup.
I love this song... from South Korea.
O Mi God. Touch of Billie. No vibrato just like Anita O'Day, June Christy, Chris Connor. Amazing!
Terraza, Chamorro, mi corazon!
💙🎇💖 Mucho gracias, hombre, you are so Full Of Music and Love. Dearest Andrea💝.
Je to velký požitek, poslouchat takovou hudbu s těmito interprety !
Ignasi Terraza: best spanish jazz musician since Tete Montoliu. He deserves such praise!!...
My favorite jazz pianist ever, especially when backing a vocalist. No one can do it better. And he is blind.
This is all natural, from the heart, and is a great job.
¡Gracias!
This whole concert evening had to be such a triumph for all involved--especially the audience. Such a privilege to witness live such greatness.
This piano solo is insane. wow.
Andrea Motis has jazz in her veins. She is not just a very proficient singer, prolific Trumpet player but also a great alto saxophonist. She has many years to go to beat her own records in proficiency.
I have to see these people in person. I think they are fantastic. Joan is a bad boy on bass, Scott Hamilton is a bad ass on Tenor Sax, Andrea does it all!
I have seen this video several times and each time I see and feel more how much Andrea feels what she is singing. What a gift she has been for me
Very true, Andrea puts so much emotion and sensitivity into her singing that the listener can't help but be moved. Add to that her extraordinary and instinctive phrasing and timing (somebody called her "The Princess of Syncopation") and you have a unique jazz vocalist. Her brilliance on trumpet, sax and the flugelhorn makes her the most complete jazz musician I have experienced. The first time I heard her 6 years ago, I was blown away, became an instant fan and have been ever since. I go to Barcelona often and since Andrea and the Quintet come quite often to France specially Paris, never miss a chance to see her in concert and consider myself very lucky to get to know her a little. Like her music, Andrea is a wonderful person, overflowing with energy, humour and the joy of living. Endearingly, she is also modest, no star complex about this young woman.
@@ferreiraronald7873 I envy your ability to see her in person. I'm in the Midwestern US. Chances of ever being close enough to catch them all live on stage are pretty slim. Think I'll have to watch this video again right now!!!
that guy on sax, hes really feelin it. so much soul in this whole preformance. beautiful sounds!
Her phrasing is different but her vocal timbre reminds me of Chet Baker's recording. In any case she is wonderful and boy am I happy I accidentally found her. Thank you UA-cam for that list on the right. And my goodness is she lovely!
Me too a pure hazard amazing 😏
Dear UA-cam. Thanks for giving me a chance to know the existence of this. Beautiful ensemble. Great interpretation. This is true art. When music comes with light and touch your soul. You've been gifted dear Andrea. Thanks for giving us those notes. From France with admiration.
Where are these young kids getting all the street-cred to be able to emote like this?
The conductor just smiles! I guess I would too if my orchestra sounded like this. If I had an orchestra.
+Joe Vreeland ehehhehehe!!! I think you're right. He is very proud, and happy! And he has all the reasons to be like that.
Myriads of online resources...lol
The talent begins young with the great Joan Chamorro, he knows how to pick them and get those great sounds of them! He start them out young, each plays more than one instrument usually, just makes massive talents out of all of those young people, and they love doing it, love the music they make!
Joe Vreeland
She's a prodigy found at the perfect time. We are so lucky. Everyone knows it and they all just dig it cause she's insanely good and so is the band.
I've listened to this piece maybe six times in the last six months and I'm struck with how original is her phrasing. Not just good singing, good jazz, good music.
+nemo227 : ) That's right! And it is so delightful! There is so much talented people out there...
Angus Brownfield I've listened it six times in the last forty minutes lol
Thats so good
Respectfully beg to differ. Her voice, although does indeed have the rhythm, is IMHO, without substance, little coloring and boring. Wants to sound like Blossom Dearie without succeeding. Definitely not to be compared with Chet Baker whose extra-relaxed voice had a nice body to it, even when touching falsetto. He managed to convey this feeling making you want more. And as far as her trumpet sound, although she is very good, nevertheless doesn't possess Baker's velvety sound.
Viva Yo, youv'e got the right to your opinion, which I respect.
I'm not comparing with Chet Baker, but saying that her version impressed me so very much... after his! :)
She has such a smooth voice, sugar to the senses.
Friends forever! ^_^
EVERYBODY has their right to their opinion. I am not challenging you, just expressing mine, which happens to go against the grain of 99% of the posters. Like I said, TO MY EARS, I find her voice "cutely irritating" and unlistenable after 2 minutes. Maybe because Ella Fitz, unquestionably and by far the best non-operatic voice of recording history, is SO superhumanly perfect that this kid sounds to me like bad brakes (and incidentally, if Ella's destiny had been to sing El Bel Canto, she would also have been magnificent).
Just saying, not attacking.
How delightful it must be for Mr. Chamorro to hear one of his students perform so well.
Moving to Barcelona ... This group is SO solid and I've heard A LOT of groups. Hard to believe the improv I'm hearing, intonation, feel, phrasing, dynamics, groove, etc. coming out of what looks like such young players.
Wow, how smooth. So glad to see such young talent enter the Jazz scene. Makes me happy!
This is ultimate sax solo. Really beutiful
Woooow
I just discovered this channel on UA-cam, and I have to say that Andrea Motis and the rest of the students of Joan Chamorro are just incredible. We need more talent like this in the world today!
First let's recognize the excellence of the trio that supports Andrea Joan C plays the bass without all the annoying , extraneous notes that many bass players try to insert, often off the mark. Scott H is probably as good as anyone who has ever played the tenor sax. The pianist is also great (he's blind, unreal!!). I love everything they do. Andrea is a great musician . She is a triple threat at trumpet, sax and singing. She is marvelous as a backup singer. Her solo effort are nice. I think her sax playing is better than the trumpet IMHO. Can't get enough of all the stuff that Joan produces.
Just wondering why there are so many dislikes? She is from another planet with her sensitive rendition of this number.
Envy is a caustic lover.
So sweet comment! 😁 i love it♥
@@genesmith4019 I think you are dead right, jealousy is a poison that is all consuming.
470 thoroughly sour creatures, who travel between UA-cam sites to spread their misery; send them to an underground cave where they belong.
If Andrea was the only person I listened to the rest of my life, I would die a happy man!

Great treatment of a beautiful ballad. Very impressed by the timing by all musicians.
He vivido 27 años en Barcelona !
The way Ignasi Terraza feels and thinks love, through his solo, is too realistic and deep.
Apperently hes a blind pianist
I don't get your point
And now a baby in 2020 that’s not tooooo fast. “ just in time “ Congratulations !
I am absolutely in love with Andrea's voice and she is stunningly beautiful! What a wonderfully haunting performance (in a great way)! Luscious piano playing, beautifully rich saxophone....and I could go on and on. It reminds me of some older jazz records where you can just get lost in them for hours.

Gabbo Saan THANK YOU
THE PORTUGUESE IS VERY SWEET LANGUAGE AND SHE GIVE IT IN ENGLISH...BRAZIL!
Wow, and now I am sure that I have heard the most beautiful version of this song. Admire your work, Mr. Chamorro, very much indeed. I’m a music teacher myself and a pro jazzmusician from Sweden. Young and wonderful Andrea is a new favourite to me and the pianosolo is a masterpiece in the art of music, maybe the best I’ve heard... Absolut stunning and a tear fell easily from my eyes. Thank you and thank you again!! 🌺🎷👍🙋♂️👏
This is my type of jazz, I can't seem to get enough of this little girl. Great singing and great horn player.
The guy on sax is Scott Hamilton and has many fans for what it’s worth!!!
Deservedly so. I'm certainly a fan
Scott Hamilton Master performance the best song for this quintet
Great Joan Chamorro...

Chet Baker must be proud. This is a great cover. thanks!
aprile 2013 Andrea Motis giovanissima
We used to talk a lot about "soul' in jazz. I love to listen to Pee Wee Russell because he had soul. He could play Dixieland and also jam with Thelonius Monk. He did not sound like Goodman or Shaw, every note perfect, but he was a very good jazz musician. Original, daring, fearless. Andrea Motis is in a way like Pee Wee Russell. She hasn't got the greatest voice but she is a good jazz musician. She could have aped Chet Baker note for note but she styled the song her own way. So, I have read the observations prompted by my comment of a year ago and no one had changed my opinion, though I respect most of the comments.
Wonderful ensemble, beautiful voice uniquely beautiful. Thank you❤
Beautiful group, beautiful interpretation
Everyone contributes to make this a smooth arrangement of this jazz tune. I first heard this tune played in Basin Street in NYC. This rendition is at that level - professional.
