It's about Peter The Great, Russian Tsar, Apparently, Peter discovers that his wife Katherine has been cheating on him, so Peter has her lover beheaded. He then has the man's head placed in a jar to preserve it, and as punishment, Peter forces Katherine to spend some time each day staring at the head in the jar. This song is a love song to Katherine, sung from the points of view of Peter and also Katherine's lover's head (in alternating verses). Kinda twisted, but a brilliant song nontheless.
One of my (way too young) Military Brothers passed away this past week. He succumbed to his demons after being wounded in Iraq many years ago. I found this song on his FB page and have played it over and over. This song is so mesmerizing, yet sad. I don't know the significance of this song to him personally. However, this song's depth reminds me of him for sure. God Speed my Brother, we will meet again.
I still listen to this video often. Andy Hull, you are amazing. Thank you for this live acoustic version of Prytor... it’s very much my family acoustic vibe. ❤️
Andy revealed on the Spotify sessions for Bad Books "II" that this song is about Catherine the Great and Peter III. Peter caught Catherine with another man so Peter beheaded the man and made Catherine spend time with his severed head everyday. Andy wrote the song as a back and forth conversation between Catherine and the severed head.
Christian Walters Does it really matter what perspective that it is written in? The fact is, is that this man wrote a song about infidelity and made it sound as though it was the sweetest love story you have ever heard in your life. I mean honestly, from about 2:22 onward, has got to be one of the most unique and beautiful perspectives ever written in song and verse. Who would ever think to write a song between this macabre love triangle?! That's how good he is.
She comes to see me inside the museum; comes every morning and again when she can. Strokes her blistered hand across my glass container, saying, "It's so good to see you back here, again."
i listen to this song and picture a honey moon in these quiet mountains in a little wood cabin with a beautiful view and a fireplace going and it is the morning after a beautiful night of passionate lovemaking and we are laying there naked and i wake up a few minutes before my wife and watch her ellegantly sleep and hear the birds as the fire sizzles out. at that moment i will realize it is the happiest a man can possibly be. Dammit i love life listening to Andy Hull.
I think this song is about Catherine the Great and Peter III, as told from the perspective of a guard. If so, this is the most beautiful historical fiction ever.
I'll tell you in the heat of my scuffle, "I've figured out how I can get back to you." And he found us in the western wing sleeping. You crowded all the things you thought he would do. And I'll tell you in the heat of the scuffle, "Nobody ever takes my eyes off of you." And, oh Catherine, how you run me my fever. Oh Catherine, tell me, was it worth it for him? 'Cause these gallows are no place for the stubborn, just you and your lover as a dark souvenir.
ik what the song is about im just telling you what it reminds me of. it is about peter the great and his unfaithful wife. the head. all that jazz. im just listening to the music and giving my interpretation.
Bare breasted, you make love in the turret I feel each single thrust that you take And in silence I watch on from the bastion Entranced, I make myself look away And bare breasted making love in the turret I've never loved nobody other than you And in silence, I can feel that you quiver Keep quiet or you know what he will do And I know I am not the man you desire I know you think that I am some kind of fool And I know you would gaze in his eyes forever I've figured out just how to give that to you When he found us in the western wing sleeping You cried at all the things you thought he would do And I tell you in the heat of the scuffle Nobody ever takes my eyes off of you And you know Katherine how you run me my fever Oh Katherine, tell me was it worth it for him? These gallows are no place for the stubborn Just you and your lover as a dark souvenir She sees me on display inside the museum Comes every morning and again when she can Strokes her blistered hand across my glass container Says its so good to see you back here again

Bare breasted, making love in the turret. And I've never loved nobody other than you. In silence, I can feel as you quiver. Let's keep quiet for you know what he can do. I know I am not the man you desire. And I know you think that I am some kind of fool.
I saw him play this song live, and it's about how some Russian ruler cut off the head of his wife's lover, encased it in glass and put it on the mantle. This song goes back and forth from the perspective of the husband and the head in the glass.
You know this song is about a famous russian who found his wife cheating on him, cut her lovers head off and made her spend time with the head every day?
Yea, and Right Away Great Captain has their own albums, and this isn't on them, its on the Bad Books album. Its not labeled "Andy Hull acoustic version" What a stupid thing to argue about man.
Dustin D. What a stupid thing to correct someone over man. Also, RA,GC! is his solo band, more or less. You can use the band name, and his name pretty much interchangeably. It's what he wanted out of Manchester Orchestra, but it just didn't plan out that way, thus RA, GC! was born.
Okay don't get mad at me people, Andy Hull is my favorite. but he completely fucked up the verses in this version compared to the original one he wrote, he repeated things he already used that weren't supposed to be there. it's like he forgot how the song went. and i'm really upset by this, somebody needs to listen to both and notice it besides me.

Was here in 2012
Is here in 2018
Will be here in 2050
❤
God this does not get old
even now
This is by far my favorite version of this song. The birds chirping in the background make it better. Andy always delivers. Amazing.
zacharybsmith1987 can’t agree more.
2022, my man is still a treaasure.
Jesus. This is 10 years old now. I've been coming back to this video for 10 fucking years! That's insane
I still listen to this video often. Andy Hull, you are amazing. Thank you for this live acoustic version of Prytor... it’s very much my family acoustic vibe. ❤️
Here in 2020. Still such big love for you guys. 💕
Underrated band. Amazing Music.
That was one if the loveliest things I've heard for a long time.
Nobody ever takes my eyes off of you...
Who else is still a gigantic Andy Hull fan in 2017?

Richard knows what's up.
Been a fan since 2012

These videos are beautiful.
He has lost so much weight and his voice and playing just keep getting better. Andy is perfect.
This is beautiful.
This voice. Man. I'm in love.
I like this more than the studio version, feels more raw
Favorite song.. Manchester, right away, bad books. Favorite.

Grrggh! - why is The Story of II not available in the UK....
Actually its not a conversation between those two, its a back and forth between the head and peters perspective of the story

2020. Still holding on
Still here
This just feels good.
The feels, man. The feels.
You win Andy. The best
So amazing.
If this is Bad Books 2, I can't wait to see how amazing new Manchester Orchestra will be when the time comes.
i do know that. that's the beautiful thing about music. I can interpret it anyway that I'd like.
Cheers from Puerto Rico.
UGHHHH you're doin' it to me again Andy.
She comes to see me inside the museum; comes every morning and again when she can. Strokes her blistered hand across my glass container, saying, "It's so good to see you back here, again."
I like this version a lot more than the album version. This just flows better to me.
not yet. Bad Books II coming soon
Andy said this song is about Catherine the Great and Peter III. One stanza is from Peter's perspective and the other is from the head's perspective
he's just a fucking brilliant song writer. enough said.
I never love nobody other than you
I can just fall asleep to this :)
No, it's going on the new Bad Books record that's coming up later. He just performed the whole session as RAGC.
who’s here in 2020?
i listen to this song and picture a honey moon in these quiet mountains in a little wood cabin with a beautiful view and a fireplace going and it is the morning after a beautiful night of passionate lovemaking and we are laying there naked and i wake up a few minutes before my wife and watch her ellegantly sleep and hear the birds as the fire sizzles out. at that moment i will realize it is the happiest a man can possibly be. do you see the 4 dislikes .... who dislikes beauty..... baffling.
Really is..
I miss the buzzsaw version...it was so authentic.
hey, awesome voice :)
I will always love you.
I would do anything to write like Andy.
the last lines make me think of a girl swiping an iPhone, reading what i write, and considering it "keeping in touch"
I think this song is about Catherine the Great and Peter III, as told from the perspective of a guard. If so, this is the most beautiful historical fiction ever.
Where can you get this song now days? Can't find it on apple
It's a shame to know that so many people are missing out on his music!
He was in Alpharetta? Sheeeeeiitt why didn't I know...
A talking tripod actually shot and uploaded this video
Have Andy Hull and Jose Gonzalez every played a show together? I guess not, because the world is still in one piece.
Kingdom of Loathing!
II (that's the name of the album, really).
what a perfect fucking human.
I'll tell you in the heat of my scuffle, "I've figured out how I can get back to you." And he found us in the western wing sleeping. You crowded all the things you thought he would do. I'll figure out how i can get back to you..
Wow.
andy teach me please.
Andyyyy -3 -3

I went on his bandcamp but I couldn't find this song recorded. Is it even out?
I kinda did it in one go, so it's highly possible parts of it are wrong. At least it's close.
Bare breasted, you make love in the turret
I feel each single thrust that you take
And in silence I watch on from the bastion
Entranced, I make myself look away
And bare breasted making love in the turret
I've never loved nobody other than you
And in silence, I can feel that you quiver
Keep quiet or you know what he will do
And I know I am not the man you desire
I know you think that I am some kind of fool
And I know you would gaze in his eyes forever
I've figured out just how to give that to you
When he found us in the western wing sleeping
You cried at all the things you thought he would do
And I tell you in the heat of the scuffle
Nobody ever takes my eyes off of you
And you know Katherine how you run me my fever
Oh Katherine, tell me was it worth it for him?
These gallows are no place for the stubborn
Just you and your lover as a dark souvenir
She sees me on display inside the museum
Comes every morning and again when she can
Strokes her blistered hand across my glass container
Says its so good to see you back here again
I'm pretty sure he/Manchester Orchestra will never write bad music.
Bare breasted, you make love in the turret. I feel each single thrust that you take. And, in silence, I watch on from the bastion. Entranced, I make myself look away. I had to fix it.
Is this song on iTunes???
Is that like two i's or two L's or just a roman number 2?
If any one could email me the tabs, that would be amazing.
5,000th viewer, woot
hahahah good reply to that post
What album is this off of?
is tripod an instrument?
"Andy and I recorded some songs"
You held the fucking camera.
If that's the image that you get then you clearly don't understand the grim story that he is telling.
that guy's a douchebag/saint. Im sorry your heart is broken but man...this song makes the fall so tender.
the song "bodies" by the band 'Drowning Pool' gives me this exact picture in my head, weird.
I saw him play this song live, and it's about how some Russian ruler cut off the head of his wife's lover, encased it in glass and put it on the mantle. This song goes back and forth from the perspective of the husband and the head in the glass.
II
11 years later I have no idea why I made this comment or what it means.... lol
You know this song is about a famous russian who found his wife cheating on him, cut her lovers head off and made her spend time with the head every day?
yea, you dont know how to listen to music if you are against having your own personal feelings about songs.
Its technically Bad Books but ah whos counting, its all Andy either way.
Do you see Kevin Divine, and the rest of the members on the screen? No, this is Andy Hull, acoustic version of Pytor. The video is labeled correctly.
Yea, and Right Away Great Captain has their own albums, and this isn't on them, its on the Bad Books album. Its not labeled "Andy Hull acoustic version" What a stupid thing to argue about man.

Its not stupid if its correct. Man.
Hence my original statement. Are you being willfully dense, or are you just stupid?

FloToe I noticed😂
he did lol, i was mad at the comment til i listened to this whole thing
He probably did...he is in 3 bands that put out music continuously..god forbid he is an actual human and messed up.
Chill out
