So much fun to have someone else rave about legacy lenses (and especially Soviet). Appreciate your covering history/lineage , optical design and bokeh. The 21m is intriguing - a long sonar with that classic bokeh.
Since it is quite a heavy lens on a camera, I have found it to be advisable to use a lens collar or tripod mount. RT-1 (meant for Nikon 70-200mm F4) would fit.
I find it quite interesting that the older chrome/silver version is much smaller and lighter. I should have bought it when I had the chance, but, hey, I was already over budget, that day! 😅
How it compares to M42 Pentacon 200/4? .) It has 15 aperture blades, F4 is a bit soft especially on edges, around F6.3 it resolves more details, F8 is very good. If you need to take some distant landscape and use F11, image is very detailed. But like Pentacon 135/2.8 it is quite intersting bokehmonster for portraits. But yes, not comparable with Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSMII or Sigma 100-300/4. Those are simply different level.

Thanks, it's great being able to share my passion for these old lenses!
Thanks for the review, love the sharpness charts
To solve the internal reflection i put a square of black cloth on the flat square on the internal of the rear of the lens, solves the problem!
Great idea!

That's a great idea actually, I'll have to get myself one for when I'm shooting it.
The Jupiter 21M has seen some use in astrophotography, some example photos can be found on astrobin!
Will have to check them out, been a while since I've dabbled in astrophotography!

Budget, always the problem when it comes to vintage lenses 😁
Awesome 😎
Name of that algorithm you mentioned in the end? Is it open source?

I haven't had a chance to get my hands on the Pentacon 200/4, but would love to try it out.
Comparing vintage lenses to modern lenses using "sharpness" as the primary misses the point entirely.
У меня есть 21М и мне интересно, как хорошо он будет работать с телеконвертером 2х
Интересно, я попробоваю
