- By far the most challenging bass cover I've done so far, this has taken a lot of work to nail. Many hours and a new callus on my ring finger from the all the slides. Thankfully they're flat-wound strings or it would have been even more painful!
I particularly like this Bauhaus song for the dub section at the end ( • Bauhaus - She's In Par... , however when I got involved in transcribing it I found that there are so many different variations throughout the song to learn and remember. I've managed to get it down as per the recording mostly verbatim. What a brilliant bassline! #basslineteardown
The tuning is quite unusual as standard E-A-D-G but with the reference frequency at 420Hz.
She's In Parties written by Bauhaus

Im obsessed with this bass line. I never cared about bass guitar before I got obsessed with Joy Division/New Order now I'm obsessed with bass, Bauhaus and old Cure. A forest.
Same thing here, I bought a bass when I was in my teens and didn’t really play it much. In my 20s now and been getting into Joy Division/New Order, the Cure and Bauhaus lately and been learning to play all the bass-lines.
@@dunelmian-slinger man that's awesome I wish you lived in Orlando we could start a band because I really want to get something going. Check out my channel I have I Do cover songs of stuff like that a lot
I was a bit similar. I always enjoyed the contribution the bass made to the music but only thought about learning it myself until a few years ago. It was then that I started really listing to basslines and seeing how integral they can be in songs, often leading the melody or the hook. I'll be adding an early New Order cover in the next day or two. Cranked up the chorus pedal and recorded it last night.
this bassline is magnificent
And David did it all on a fretless!
Very true, and he wrote it. Respect!
playing a fretless isn't any harder than a fretted - that's a myth. especially as most fretless basses have dots
@@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 Getting the intonation right on a fretless can be very difficult. It doesn't matter if it has dot inlays or not. A few milimetres is the difference between a note being in tune or not, and of course, it gets even more sensitive further up the neck.
@@ADTR945 milimetres... more like nanometres. It's pretty tough to get it right and you need a very good ear, especially in live gig situations this can be tricky if you can't hear yourself good. Awesome bass line!
Fukk Yeah!! You Nailed it, and I almost got it.😅Thanks!
Very well played. I'm learning it right now and it does take lots of hours to play it smoothly, you nailed it!
Thanks! If you look at the replies to Courtney's earlier comment you can find a link to my tab if it helps with your learning.
she's acting her reaction
david j is a legend! very underrated bassist.
you did a great job covering this bass line
👏👏👏
When the song moves to the E and A strings, it sounds very reggae-ish in its patterns. Really cool.
The dub ending to the song is my favourite bit.
Great playing man 🤘
Well done!
This always sounded like such a strange bass line. Could never really picture in my head how complicated it is
Neither did I until I started tabbing it!
Magnificent bass cover my good man. Keep up the good work!
Well done, man! Well done!
Damn... Telegram Sam's THE Man! I awoke (slightly) with this BASS LINE STUCK IN MY HEAD (3 a.m.)! Had to focus on where That Bassline Originated from in my memory...I knew it was David J. (was it Bauhaus or Love and Rockets?)
NOW I'm here enjoying the luscious reproduction (hard trained) version in AWE of how subtle this Backbone element played into one of my favourite tunes by them at that time.
Great Job.
No, REALLY, GREAT SPOT ON RENDITION, hands down, YOU nailed it Sam!
Wow !!
Still listening 2024
Nice one. Really interesting how the slightly "off" frequency really makes this song.
Thank you for the tab I couldn't figure how to play it, well to try to^^.
You did an awesome job, thanks again for your work and sharing, just perfect^^
that bass is hot
great play ...
This is excellent !
Well done mate
Awesome playing! :D
Brilliant!
Class 👍👍👍👍
great job!
Awesome
Excellent¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
I love the way you got the sound down really good, especially without using a fretless bass. Great Job! You wouldn't happen to have the tabs would you? lol, i only ask because its better than the ones i found.
TheSpy InTheCab Thanks, if you look under Courtney's comment you'll find the tab.
Amazing!!🔥I can’t find Courtney’s comment.😄Can you please help me out with the tab.🙏
Try Evil Merv's comment... user ID change!
Great great..exellent !!
Can you play Spirit in the Sky -Bauhaus... ? Greetings from Italy
I think that would be a tricky one to play, getting the delay settings the same. Not to mention that there aren't many drums to lock into for the timing. Nice bass line though!
@@SamHutchinsonBass I know.. I know.. See you in another play !!
Nice work, Sam! I´ve been working on this bassline for some time now and was looking into learning it in its entirety. I´m really happy that I was able to learn some of the main parts but am very curious whether you have the tabs listed for this song? Please share if you do. Keep the groove, bass mate!
Thanks for the nice comment. This should keep you busy. drive.google.com/file/d/1ZuADQmpoOo_mKiyO_P1AnM0uzIG5g8Rt/view
@@SamHutchinsonBass I'm very grateful of you. 🙏🏼 Yes, I'll definitely stay busy with this. 🙃
Do you have tabs/music for the song? I've been looking for accurate music for so long. Best cover I've seen of this song ❤❤❤
Thanks for your kind comment. It took some work to get all the fills worked out. It's not until you start tabbing it that you see how complicated the song is! Here's the bass tab that I made for it (what you can see on the desk in front of me). Grab it quick as it won't be there forever. drive.google.com/open?id=1ZuADQmpoOo_mKiyO_P1AnM0uzIG5g8Rt
Sam Hutchinson thank you so much!! I'm so excited to start learning my favorite bass line! When I searched for music, they didn't sound close enough to the song so I tried to play it by ear and I only managed to closely get to what you had for a couple measures and couldn't figure out the rest by myself.
@@SamHutchinsonBass thanks a lot for the tab. Great cover
@@SamHutchinsonBass Great cover brother! I appreciate you´re sharing this with us! Thanks a lot!
@@SamHutchinsonBass thanks a million!
Not to bug… im just starting out and was wondering if you have tabs of your covers. You love all the same music i do. Im sure you get a ton of these messages asking. If its a bother .. ignore and i apologize. Love your page. Thanks man
Yeah, I'm normally happy to share tabs if I have them. Look in the comments and if someone's asked previously the tab might be in a reply. It is in the comments for this video but as there are quite a lot, here it is again. drive.google.com/file/d/1ZuADQmpoOo_mKiyO_P1AnM0uzIG5g8Rt/view
Nice! What is bass effect name?
Really great ! Good job. I love it. What effects did you use to get this sound?
Hi and thanks. I used flanger, delay and reverb on this with the flanger reduced on the dubby sections (low pass filter built into the pedal). Although not fretless the jazz bass sounded right.
How much was that bass
I got it 2nd hand for £820. It's a '98 American Deluxe and should hold onto its value pretty well. I recently managed to get an identical '98 A.D. fretless so might have a go at this song one day how it should be played.
Make a bass tab pls while doin this 😭
If you look through the comments you should find it.
note perfect, well done, but really needs a fretless for authenticity!
Keep practicing
