Hi and welcome to my channel where I'll mostly be sharing bass guitar cover videos, recorded for your enjoyment of the low end and maybe they can help with your playing. I'll be learning and playing an eclectic mix of some of my favourite music from the past right up to the present day. My #basslineteardown videos are faithful renditions of the original pieces, reproducing the intricacies and tone to the best of my abilities. Ask nicely in the comments and I might share my transcription tabs.
In the real world I've been playing bass with @jodyandthejerms7284 since September 2023, so give us a follow and look out for us playing around Southern England and beyond.
Hope you enjoy watching and listening and please subscribe if you do.

Pale Saints - Sight Of You (bass cover)
After a bit of a gap since my last upload due to general busyness, here's a play through of a classic shoegaze track with a lovely repeated bass motif throughout, Sight Of You by Pale Saints.
This particular version of the song is from Pale Saints' debut EP, Barging Into The Presence Of God, released in 1989. The transition from the dreamy verses and choruses to the heavy riffing under the guitar solo was not easy to master... a guitar solo played by Graeme Naysmith, who sadly died earlier this year.
Here's the accompanying video, made retrospectively in 2020: ua-cam.com/video/XiSKxvmd1bg/v-deo.htmlsi=v6UGxe-gozwi_PJ1
Continuing the theme from my previous covers, Ride covered Sight Of You for a Peel session in 1990 which can be heard here: ua-cam.com/video/_yo9_beT0Cw/v-deo.htmlsi=n1ib0HL-dMXcQ6i8
A great version but the original has a quality that can't be beaten.
Sight Of You, written by Pale Saints
Bass played by Ian Masters (down in the mix)
Bass: Musicman Stingray
Strings: Rotosound RS66LDN (Roundwound 105/85/65/45)
Amp: Darkglass Alpha-Omega Ultra DI and Ampeg PF-50T via Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 into PC
FX: mix of one clean channel straight to DAW with some EQ and compression and one with MXR bass compressor, Darkglass Alpha-Omega Ultra EQ and EBS Dynaverb via the Ampeg with Ultra Hi filter applied.

Ride - Taste (bass cover)
Переглядів 4799 місяців тому
The last of three consecutive Ride uploads, this time their classic track 'Taste' from the Fall EP and Nowhere LP. I love this song with its gritty bass, harmonies, frenetic drums and jangly guitars. What's not to like? #basslineteardown Here's the original video: ua-cam.com/video/APqGzOD0fUk/v-deo.htmlsi=gIkIzjAl_LEZ8vyN There are lots of good live versions on youtube. Ride - How Does It Feel To Feel? (bass cover)
Переглядів 1159 місяців тому
For this second of three in a series of Ride uploads, I've covered their version of How Does It Feel To Feel? Originally by 1960s band The Creation (who inspired the name of Creation Records), this song is a psyche-garage classic. Not especially challenging to learn on the bass, being mostly about hitting G, but there's a groovy intro and a couple of runs under the guitar solos. #basslineteardo...
Ride - Peace Sign (bass cover)
Переглядів 2479 місяців тому
Quite late into the new year for my first bass cover upload, but off with a bang by playing the storming recent single from Ride, the lead track from their forthcoming album 'Interplay'. This is the first of three Ride covers I'll be uploading in a row. In typical Ride style, the drums and bass are the backbone of the song and Steve's persistent line holds it all together. #basslineteardown Her...
Elastica - Gloria (bass cover)

I heard this 'Christmas' tune on the radio a couple of days ago and was reminded of that thundering P-bass riff, so I thought I'd try to play it and replicate the fat tone. So out came the Waking Up CD single (remember those?) from which this is a B-side. It was originally recorded as part of a John Peel session in 1994. While it's not a difficult tune to learn, the descending scale is tricky t...
Ride - Twisterella (bass cover)

Back into #basslineteardown mode, picking apart and playing a line as close as I can get to the original recording. Here is another classic Ride tune which immediately kicks off with Steve Q's memorable bass riff. A perfect jangly pop song in Ride's inimitable style. I was lucky enough to go to Mark Gardener's OX4 studio last week to record a new song with Jody And The Jerms. What a great exper...
Steely Dan - Barrytown (bass cover)
Переглядів 282Рік тому
I learned this song as well as those in the two previous uploads for a (quite eclectic) covers set at a recent Jody And The Jerms gig. A tricky tune to work out and I don't think I have the middle 8 exactly like the recorded version, but it works pretty well. Slightly messed it up in the live set though! Here's the original album version: ua-cam.com/video/BwAu9S_UBPo/v-deo.htmlsi=X33vbI18r7ntKC...
Electric Six - Danger! High Voltage (bass cover)
Переглядів 611Рік тому
A deceptively difficult bassline to play, the garage disco-funk of this Electric Six hit requires some finger stamina! It's built around the same chord sequence throughout alternating between the octave sections and some rhythmic pounding of the E-string. I've added my own groove under the first sax solo. It features great vocals from Dick Valentine and Jack White. Here's the original video: ua...
The Cure - Just Like Heaven (bass cover)
Переглядів 817Рік тому
Here's my take on Simon Gallup's iconic bassline from Just Like Heaven, even more upfront here than it is on the original recording. It's a great song to play and I decided on using the Peter Hook bass for this chorus-effect heavy tune. Official video: ua-cam.com/video/n3nPiBai66M/v-deo.htmlsi=CJ9vuKiHs73zHGw3 Just Like Heaven, written by The Cure Bass played by Simon Gallup (down in the mix) B...
Jody And The Jerms - Seen It All Before (bass cover)
Переглядів 172Рік тому
Presenting a play-through of the latest single from Jody And The Jerms, who I've recently joined on bass duties. 'Seen It All Before' is a catchy riff-laden slice of bitter-sweet indie pop. As with the last album, Wonder, this song was produced by Mark Gardener of Ride and recorded at his OX4 studio in Oxford. Check the band out via the usual official channels jodyandthejerms insta...
This Is The Kit - Hotter Colder (Live at Sound Knowledge, Marlborough 11/06/2023)

What a treat on a warm June day to see Kate from This Is The Kit playing an intimate set of old and new songs to promote the release of her new album, "Careful Of Your Keepers". This was the last song played, ably assisted by Vince, to a very appreciative audience. Kate Stables: Vocals, Guitar, Tambourine. Vincent Mougel: Backing Vocals, Recorder, Shaker. PA by Roger of Sound Knowledge who also...
Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch (bass cover)

After seeing an amazing concert by Ladytron last weekend, here is the second of a pair of bass covers. This was the last song in their set and what a way to end with this classic from 2005's Witching Hour album. It's another bassline which on the record is programmed on a bass synthesiser relentlessly sounding 8 times a bar throughout. #basslineteardown Here's the official video for the single:...
Ladytron - City Of Angels (bass cover)

After seeing an amazing concert by Ladytron last weekend, here is the first of a pair of bass covers. This was the first song in their set and what an intro to set the scene, the lead single from the latest album, Time's Arrow. It wasn't a complicated bassline to decipher as it only involves 4 notes, but on the record it's programmed on a bass synthesiser relentlessly sounding 8 times a bar thr...
The Revolutionaries - Kunta Kinte Dub (bass cover)

Tracks like this are why bass guitar is the best instrument. I've known the song Kunta Kinte for years, but hearing this version before an Ezra Collective gig recently and seeing the crowd reaction made me want to give it the #basslineteardown treatment. This is Sly & Robbie in full effect - a real sound system dubplate classic. Here is the original dub along with a couple of versions: ua-cam.c...
The Delgados - American Trilogy (Shepherds Bush Empire 21/01/2023)

The Delgados performing American Trilogy, one of many incredible songs played in the 2nd of their comeback shows after an 18 year hiatus, recorded at Shepherds Bush Empire in London on 21 January 2023. I'd planned to record this one as it has a long and distinctive intro (and I love it), but there were so many other highlights in the set that I kind of wish I'd filmed more, although I prefer wa...

Top stuff Sam! What a great bass line and very finely played mate! 🫡❤️
No joke, Kathy Valentine carried those girls until they became proficient with their instruments.
Awesome cover. I saw l7 with suicidal tendencies, rancid, pennywise and madball!!! Phenomenal lineup
Is this a regular tuned bass?
I learn't most of this by just looking at chords and listening to it. I can finish learning it now with your more precise video version. Thanks so much. It is one of the best songs from one of my favourite bands.
could i have the tabs please? great cover btw
Thanks. No tabs for this I'm afraid. It's the same all the way through. Drop you tuning a semitone then frets 3, 5 and 7 and the open E(flat) are all you need. Ride the groove!
@SamHutchinsonBass thanks man
Stumbled upon your channel after seeing your Play Dead cover. Funnily enough, I was listening to one of their albums on vinyl earlier! Great live rendition there.
Uuuoooollll... Perfect...👏👏👏👏 ❤ Thank you very much for this classic work... it's one of the best covers I've ever seen... I'm still getting goosebumps... I'm sorry, I'm using Google translate, my English is terrible...😂😂
Your English is just fine!
Thank you very much, but that's not all 😂😂😂
Great cover Sam 👍 I love this tune.
Hey Sam, fantastic playing as always. Any chance you can share the tab?
Thanks, here you go. drive.google.com/file/d/1Nsrd4F33074bxoOYm7JLze4HnuPeVeJR/view?usp=drive_link

great bass line , great bassist you are 🤟
Fukk Yeah!! You Nailed it, and I almost got it.😅Thanks!
What a crisp bass tone…marvellous 🫡
Great cover, very pretty bass
Well done, sir. 🤟
Hi, Sam, sorry I've been quiet for a while, this isn't a typical comment ( I left one previously).. I've not heard a better cover than you! I just wondered if there was a way to message you to ask a question, as I've finally just bought my first bass guitar, etc. If not, it's okay- and I wish you all the best!
Hi, I've added email to my profile. Thought it was there already tbh, but it wasn't. Congrats on your bass acquisition!
@@SamHutchinsonBass thankyou !
Do Under Your Nose next!
Wow!!! This is phenomenal bit of playing. Love it!!!
Excellent my friend!!!
BTW, I love the color of your bass!
Hi! Great cover! Do you use flatwounds?
Thanks, I mostly use roundwounds. The strings used in each of my videos are in the descriptions, along with effects used, etc.
Love this !!! Nice one bud
all the riff variations are hard to remember and it's double tracked in some places on the studio version
What a bassline.
Quite good great musical taste ans talent
Where could I find the tab to this, been looking for awhile.
@@TheMagic_Bus Thanks for watching, you'll find the tab in a reply to one of the other comments.
Tabs?
I've not got a tab for this but it's pretty straight forward. In the first half it's pounding D followed by a chromatic run D-C#-C-B. After the mad drum fill it's all pounding D until it starts to alternate between G and D, changing to A at the very end.
One of the most beautiful songs ever, gutted I never saw them live.
good job bro! pdf tab plz
Thank you for uproading the video!I'm practicing while watching this right now. from japan
Hey, that's great! It's a brilliant song to play. Here's the tab if it helps: drive.google.com/file/d/1zpMNkcSHPcFWaQWX9KeCx0cFB9MSll0O/view?usp=sharing
That room reminds me of Nickelodeon Studios.
Incomplete but sounds amazing 😊
I play it an octave higher.
going to see them in September .... Going Blank Again is one of my favourite albums (yeah!) so hope they play some of that :)
dude is a terminator
:)
Heads up to Josefine Jonnson the Los Bitchos bass player🙌👌❤️
Thank you! One of my favourite basslines ever.
Absolutely nailed it 🔥
nice job
That's nice, is it standard tuning, would you mind to share the tab
Wow, Thank you from Bill
Beautiful sister.Duncan1
Well done!
I think “Black Bird “ was the inspiration for this amazing piece!
Very good. Matt Hancock, is that you?
Thanks. Piss off.
Excellent!
