Gliding above streetlights that burn yellow against the darkness. Falling into the void while gazing at stars.
As space began to vibrate, my ship emerged in a new system. From my location I could only observe a dying red star clinging among the constellations. The Meso-resonator made a quick diagnosis. All the planets in the system were dead. Unsatisfied, I sank further into my chair and stared at the star. We were both very tired. Tired of the long life we were living. I began to wonder whether I would ever have the chance to fade away quietly on the world I had grown up in, as the star was doing at home. Tempted as I was by this delicate idea, it was impossible. I don't have that right. I have a duty to fulfill. The new inoculation cycle began. I felt the icy bio-stabilizers and stimulants circulating in my veins. My mind became clear again. After a few days recharging my batteries, I said farewell to my dying friend and launched the next jump. Our people must survive. I must find a habitable world and transmit the coordinates to them. And once that's done, I'll find another, then another. And so on until the end of time.

Love this stuff! Some parts kind of made me think of the ost in the Freeza saga of Dragonball Z by Bruce Faulconer. Same kind of vibe. Also, when the more dissonant parts where playing my cat was sitting profusely in front of me on my desk. It was hilariously on point.
