I can just imagine Cole Hocker talking to his fellow milers next week when he gets home. Teammate: "So how'd it go, Cole?" Cole: "I ran 12:58." Teammate: "WHAAT? Man, you crushed it. Congrats on the win." Cole: "No, I came in 11th." Teammate: "I'm gonna just stick to the 1,500."
What a great field. Barega and Arigawi look impressive. Also, it's nice to see Cheptegei coming back into form. He looks to be free of injury ... should be in peak form for Paris.
I said the same thing. What a beautiful display of running, especially in the last lap. These athletes are so talented and majestic in their craft. An absolutely amazing race. I enjoyed it
What a beautiful demonstration of long distance running, especially the last lap. Amazing display of talent, endurance and speed. What an enjoyable race.
Dude I hate that he was the only one really leading the pack and no one helping but I get it’s a race but those lights just kept making me mad that it was right there but not with them
He made the race quick and came away with a huge pb. He probably would have ran even quicker if someone would have helped him out for the first 2 mile as well.
The crazy stupidity of the people who chose head-on shots in the back straight of the final lap- or indeed anywhere - is so annoying. Will somebody please have word with them!
Barega ran that flawlessly. Stayed out of trouble, moved up with 600 to go so he wouldn't get trapped in the final lap, and clearly had the speed to dominate the final 200. Looking forward to seeing him run in Paris.
the odds are high. they are nike signed athletes and have to compete at a few nike sponsored events every year -- also why bunch of folks went to germany last week to compete in Addidas 'road games' or whatever.
The finishing results come up on the screen BUT... you cover them with an advert for another video! WTF! Oh, I forgot to say Many Thanks for posting this video. So thanks USA T&F
I noted how far off the lead Hocker was for so much of the race and the times explained why. He is a racer and a competitor and those guys were moving. The whole meet had great competition. I was at the 2022 Worlds and was shocked at how fast the 5K and 10K guys are at that level and certainly at that meet, like thoroughbreds, so this race must have been incredible in person. Fisher looked like he could have won both Oregon22 finals. In my mind, the guy didn't lose.
This field was a very fast one. They were sprinting at the end and could have run faster if the pace was faster. Barega, Aregawi and Cheptegei finished well.
Thanks for putting this up. If you pause at the end, you can see the times. How Cole Hocker ran sub 13 from where he was with 400 to go, I have no idea. What was his last lap time?
i think lead group hit the bell in 11:57:2 meaning they went ~54 last lap or so? i think cole was probably also close to a 54 then, like from 12:03 or 12:04 to 12:58. i would be very suprrised if he was faster than baraga.
Cheptegei has a good kick. Coming wide out of the box and closing in on Aragawi past Jacob was amazing. It's pretty same story in 10K tokyo Olympics when he had to open wide . If he holds the line from 500m ,no one can beat him to the finish. Otherwise such a nice race and glad Barega read the script so well. Aragawi is so imposing to beat that his splint may last before the line. He should sustain that kick to the line .I want him win big. Jacob has not beaten the third place in presence of Barega, joshua or kajelcha. He is similar to Aragawi in the sense that they can sustain high splinting tempo but not kicking to the line. 54 second anaerobic running for 400m requires that killer instinct training .I bet to win one has to be ready to kick 400m in 50 or under anaerobic training .
Kejelcha is such a beast! Unfortunately he hasn't had a major kick to win championships. But he has been working on it and will be a dark horse at the Olympics.
i think it is less leg speed and more mentality. like his last 200 seems similar speed to the rest, but he was between 5 - 10m back at the 200m mark. he just didn't go with the earlier move, and i have no idea why. but settling for 5th seems to be his fortay. i hope he shakes that off.
It is possible to see the results just after the ads disappear. At 15:19… you have to pause and then move the slider to it. What a race! Insane. Almost all of them below 13mins… 🤯
What a stacked field, Olympic champion, world cross country champion, world record holder, national records. If the Olympic Games 5,000 meters and 10,000 finals are equal to this race........look out!
What surprises me is that you cant (or dont want ) to remember what he did in eugene and in budapest. The field will 99% be the same, its unlikely that there will be 20 new athletes for the final. Cheptegei...he is past his best. Jakob will start his season with a win in this weekends mile as well. PS ive been a serious follower of middle distane running for the past 40 years mr James. JAKOB ALL DAY LONG. Jake and Joshua will not beat him again
Great race. by everyone. Cheptegei did a tactical mistake he allowed to become "boxed" with 600 meters to go and then having to run wide (and actually slow down) with 190 meters to go, really lost momentum and the race (similar what happened at the Olympics to Barega) You can not allow Barega or anyone to get a jump or that's the end. It is nice to see that Cheptegei is coming back to form (not there yet) but good. Aragawi is extremely dangerous (and very talented) just that he is not that good in "championship races". Barega is very good tactically, he knows how to do it. Kiplimo I think is focusing for the 10.000 or possibly the marathon, so this is just a "fitness test for him" Nevertheless excellent race by the entire field. Fisher (although does not have the "kick") very consistent.
Lights help show a certain pace which continues after the rabbit drops off. Sometimes it's a qualifying time, sometimes it's just whatever pace the competitors ask for.
Clear Jacob Kiplimo is just testing his fitness. In the Olympics 10,000 he will medal. the commentators forget to mention back to back world cross country champion at the start 😳...
a) please say what time the green lights are on, I don't think it was 13:00 it was probably world leading time b) leave the clock running after the winner crosses there are a lot more stories than a head on shot of someone who's finished

Insane race, thanks for sharing it! Last lap, 54.4 seconds... Beautiful.
Congrats to all for their amazing PBs!
CRAZY race! Must be one of the fastest 5000m races ever with so many athletes under 13:00

Barega's kick is so legendary and inspirational.
Atkin looking around and shaking his head then intentionally slowing down lol
He was running out of steam and no one would take over. He should have just stayed deeper in the pack to begin with

Cheptegei! Love this Guy So Much! Your fan from Ghana 🇬🇭.
Thanks for loving our guy. Akwaba
I had no idea this race was even happening. Such a stacked field! Great runs.
My fastest ever 5k is 14:45 and my best 400 54.7 which they ran on the last lap! Such respect for these amazing runners.
Excellent pace settling by AJ Ernst through 5.5 laps (5:40). He set them up perfectly for a barn-burner!
That race was majestic , heart pounding
I LOVE the placement of microphones on the track itself so we can hear the actual footsteps of the pack approaching the mic., then passing it.
Thanks for blocking the results with graphics at the end
You beat me to it.
