I have a 2011 ford flex running 2 sundown x12s on a sundown 6k amp. Makes me proud to see another bassing flex. Its very rare to see a flex with a system in it.
This one is long gone, I'm afraid. But maybe the new owner kept the system, I certainly like to think so. My other vehicles all have systems of course, the addiction to good, accurate and powerful sound is pretty bad for me.
Wow I cant believe I just found your videos. Will be checking out your video logs. My system looks like so amateur compared to yours. The quality of work here is incredible! Nice work. Still amazed.
Many thanks, and just keep in mind that I'm an amateur as well but with a few more practice runs. Never can be afraid to pull it apart again and start over if you're not happy with the results. Try using a 3D modeling program like Sketchup and see if it helps you come up with ideas that you like. I've used it for years and it helps me visualize before I start cutting up things. Thanks for the compliments!
Hey Lanson...I've read a lot about this build on DIYMA and its great seeing and hearing about this vehicle on video...I'm obsessed about that center channel...thank you for sharing
Hey Jerry, good to see a fellow DIYMA member. Nowadays I would seek a better processor, perhaps the new Helix coming out would be a good option. It is supposed to have a good center / surround algorithm. Other than that I've been using more simple centers or none. Ms8's are trouble these days.
@@lansonfloyd4687 I've been waiting for audiofrogs dsp to be released...but that seems like that's gonna be a little while longer....if I decide to go with a simpler center setup...u think an audiofrog gs42 would suffice ?
@@jerryjoseph1866 I think that would work great. Nothing wrong with the GS line at all, great speakers (I've run the GS690 and GS10 in a build before.) Not 100% sure it would fit easily (check the space in there), but I'm sure it would sound awesome.
I have a 2013 Ford Flex Limited (With the fridge) I would love to hear this sound system next time I'm in Vegas... (I was just there for the furniture show last week, and CES two weeks before that)
Feel free to visit me on www.fordflex.net and we can chat about that, but in general follow my similar answer to "The Punisher" in the comments. 1600-2000 to build up something similar to this one, probably better since I've learned a bit more.
Hey there, each install is different (different equipment, different levels of detail and time spent on those details), but I can tell you I would need the vehicle for about two weekends and the labor side of the equation would be somewhere between 700 and 1100 (without building custom A-pillars), assuming you need a subwoofer enclosure made, and everything from battery to door work, to MS-8, amps, etc. WITH an install almost exactly like mine (custom center, custom A-pillars, custom sub box, etc) , I'll need about 4 weekends (or more) and about $1600-2000 in labor, ish. If I dare count the actual hours I spent on my build, I think I'd go nuts over the amount, but that's the hobby. :) I'm on fordflex.net if you need anything or want to have a discussion about it.
lansonfloyd I got amps like 7, 4 and 2 channerl ppi amps and 4 channel zapco and many 2 channel Rockford fosgate amps. I was thinking of just doing a hi lo off the sub lines to a fosgate amp to a pair of boxed 10's to get more bass. your thought ??? but I am thinking about having you do it, I am in los angeles so timing would be the tricky part.
+Paul Reyes Thank you, this car is now traded for something new but it was lowered on H&R springs, and 3 piece forged 22x9 and 22x10 wheels, from a custom wheel builder out of Anaheim, CA.
Well, at least you have your music while you wait for the tow truck when you get a flat. I use to make custom sub boxes and install custom audio that would shatter windows for competition. But I would never eliminate the spare tire, that's just stupid. You can drive with no windows but you can't drive on a flat, lol.
This vehicle is gone but I wouldn't call it stupid. Knowing Ford equipped the car with a spare tire that could damage my AWD system (especially with larger 22's, and lowered), I omitted it. On trips out of town where a tow or a flat repair would be inconvenient, I always carried a full-size factory wheel/tire assembly in my cabin, like luggage in a bag. At least that way if I had a flat, my AWD system would not be damaged.
Lanson Floyd Buying a little taller donut wasn't a option vs the inconvenience and tackiness of hauling the spare in the cab? I bought a new 2013 pearl white Flex with the 202A package, towing package and factory 20" rims. 6 months after I bought it I drove into a tire shop and had the low pros replaced with taller tires to soften and quite the ride. The thought of 22"s lowered has me cringing
Depends on what you're used to, where you drive, and of course, looks. 22's aren't normally my go-to, but my prev. Flex had 20's and wasn't lowered, and it was definitely missing something. But it was smooth and comfortable to me, at least in town where this vehicle spent most of its time. It was a city-cruiser on smooth roads, mostly. The response at the wheel was vastly superior with these 22's and lowered, than with 20's and stock height on my prev. Flex. Re: convenience and tackiness, I can't agree. It was in a simple nylon tire bag, it wasn't a trouble to throw it in on long trips out of town. Remember, we all have different needs, in this case I almost never needed to worry about out of town issues like a spare. It would be easier for me to hitch a quick ride with Uber or whatever to go pick up a spare stock wheel and tire if I was in town. I don't do this for every car I build, but with the Flex it was a calculated decision based on available space. You'll notice most other Flex builds include a spare tire delete. :) Edit: That is, assuming you still want the 3rd row to flip and fold like it is supposed to.
Lanson Floyd " The response at the wheel" We are still talking about a station wagon, right? I noticed the cold air intake (on a station wagon) that suggests you're "that guy". Nylon tire bag or not, a visible spare tire inside any car IS TACKY it's GHETTO. Using the Flex's factory sub and amp mounting location with a few tweaks, a single high power sub at 2ohms and you get to keep your spare tire, save your money on that taxi and confuse the shit out of cops that pull you over for noise pollution.
Fun fact, the 2013 Flex SEL with the package I selected does NOT include the factory sub. In its space is a simple cubby hole. So, your suggestion goes out the window. Second, I had a 2010 Flex SEL which DID include the factory sub, and I indeed actually tried to use the factory location for a subwoofer. The space is insufficient for a subwoofer location, there's physically not enough air space even with a properly fiberglassed enclosure. It ends up being roughly .6 cubic feet at max and to reach my SPL / frequency response goals I needed about double that at a minumum. There's no way to combat Hoffman's Iron Law, if you build systems you must be already aware of this...you only get 2 out of 3 parameters your way. On my 2010, I ended up making the factory sub area a place for my processor, but if you weren't aware, that factory panel costs more than $1100 if you want to return to stock. In other words, touching it at all is a very expensive mistake if you want to return things back to stock at some point. So, for my 2013, I chose to leave my factory panel completely stock. How I want my car to handle is completely up to me. A Flex runs a modified Volvo XC90 chassis if you aren't aware, and can handle fairly well. It is limited to heavy understeer but lowering it with H&R springs brings the rake down, and the understeer is neutralized a bit. Running relatively light forged 3 piece wheels in a staggered, lower offset config (+37 front to back, accounting for a larger 10" wheel in rear to handle the 15mm wedge shape the Flex actually has) made it handle fairly nice, especially with sticky Toyo tires. How I want it to sound with an intake or not, again completely up to me. It was also tuned by Torrie at Unleashed, you want to make fun of me because I got a tune on a station wagon? Bud, if you want to talk shit about my builds or my process, you are going to need to come up with more than comments about my decision to keep or ditch my spare. Are you "that guy" that, 2 years after someone posts a video, decides he has something to say about a build that is long-since done? "confuse the shit out of cops that pull you over for noise pollution" = the difference between you and me, right there.

You might be happy to know that a gentleman shipped me a Flex to build and we are sticking Sundown SA-18's in it! Game on!
@swagg so smooth23 it took a while but I completed the Flex build I was talking about, with the SA-18 sub. ua-cam.com/video/vyr4NDRDMQA/v-deo.html
That's because no one is going to waste their money on that
Marcus Chester lol you don’t like. Move on chester
Very clean job, and I love vibe, I had their speakers back in the days, great quality, I was shocked

GOD BLESS YOUR KIDS THANK YOU
what did you do with the parking sensors? im wondering if i need another channel for the rear pilar speakers by the rear gate
I need to know how to get a power cable through the firewall.
Do you have a build sheet? The links do not work. Thanks
where did you run the amp wire from the battery through the firewall? Did you drill a hole and add a grommet?
Where is the factory amplifier located?
How much would you charge on a 2009 flex

What brand are your rims and what size?
Very nice install!
Awesome job!! Where are you located?
wow great video, how much would you charge to do this install on a 2011 flex with the sony system.....????

how did you get the newer ac panel?
J Wea got mine from ebay but its a pain transferring the button to the new one
Love thay fat B&M air cleaner...❤
Speakers amp & custom job is beyond jaw-dropping as well.
