Thorfinn is very well written as a character.
Everyone on YT knows you lol
Characters are introduced carefully and slowly in Vinland Saga. They're given enough time to develop through interactions and events that happen to them. This slow development is the most fascinating aspect of Vinland Saga for me because it shows us a constant window into their mental state and gives us a better idea for what they will turn into later on. Thorfinn’s change feels so rewarding and not forced, you can truly feel his growth.

In my community, we descended from very warrior centric culture and I heard a stories from my grandfather (may he rest in peace) of a time when people would often go out to hunt those who killed a member of their family (from direct family members to as far as second cousins) and they are obligated to do so not because of love, but because it's expected as of tradition, I think he used our term for ""clan war" to describe it. And because I was just a kid when he told me this story I never really fully understood how destructive this was. Thankfully this no longer happens
Someone who always wanted revenge needs to learn that there is something beyond that revenge. Same goes for Eren Yeager.
Thorfinn is very realistic when it comes to psychology..his life was driven by nothing but revenge until all his work and growth was shattered in front of him by Canute. This led him to be empty and feeling worthless. Which is why he is my favorite protagonist of manga other than ken Kaneki

I hope Snake will comeback as well (only him and Canute can read, that means he's someone of education/nobility) As someone who has read Planetes, I fully trust the author because he's such a master storyteller.

Another thing I like about Thorfinn is, that you can really see that he got heavy PTSD and what it does to a human.
Even now currently Thorfinn's ideals are tested against the harsh and merciless world he lives in whether he can keep them against the tide

What I love about Thorfinn, his story goes way past revenge, his emotions are played out in a really good structure throughout the story, you get to witness him grow up as a person having many realizations about his decisions and ideology that began to shape up later on because of his father.

For real,seeing the anime onlys who dont of his development and why the mangaka wrote him the way he did in prologue shit on the way hes written and use it as proof VS doesn't have good character wrtting is really annoying tbh. It wouldn't be if they didnt come off so smug thought.

Thorfinn and Einar kind of remind me of Gon and Killua. Thorfinn might be might favourite character of all time (alongside people like Guts and Duke Hyou) and his character arc has brought tears and many a thought to my mind.

What? BSD is horribly written, eveytime it introduces a threat it's immediately humiliated in a few seconds, the characters are flat and more humor then emotion, the story goes nowhere, the characters are so fanservice over actuall character and mostly pander to women that just wants pretty boys to look at etc. I could go on for ages on how awful Bungo really is.

Thorfinn is such an awesome character. He knows that he will probably never be free of the ghosts that haunt him, but he pushes forward regardless. A land of peace is his goal and that is powerful.

Basically He wants to kill baddy who killed his father but because his father was a great man he wants a to fight in a duel in the honor of his father but his father at the end wouldn't want that so in a sense he is doing this for himself and not his father and then later he has no goal in life no more because baddy was killed by bitch boi until he meets chad boi and becomes friends with him after a while then he becomes similar to his dead and beats bad man with his fists instead of his sword.
