    On the major Tractor on the sims injection pumps there was a spring loaded button to push to aid in cold starting it would move the fuel rack to full fuel position you would set the hand throttle to 1/4 and push the button good video keep up the good work

      Larry Brewer Oh really?! I have never seen that button where is it located?

      Google fordson dexta manual free download it may help you out from what I saw I would remove the air filter on the side of the pump and clean it and reinstall it this looks like a good read it looks like it’s an in-depth ops manual or at least it has a really good trouble shooting section
      From what I could see the cold start bottom must be a major thing verses a dexta people online were also talking about changing the starters for one that cranks 300 rpm faster that may help you also

      Larry Brewer Okay I have the original manual to this one I'll have a look! Thanks!

      That button was only fitted to the SIMM MINIMEC (mechanically goverened )pump, not the air governed pump as on this tractor .

      @@theGasur Simms pneumatic pumps did have excess fuel. The dexta didn't have this as it uses indirect injection. Excess fuel would be wasted as the white smoke is unburnt fuel. Chucking more fuel in there is only going to carry more heat out.

    Would it not be easier to mount in on the other side of the block? Or is it only the newer models that had that possibility?

      I don’t know if mine has freeze plugs on the other side of the block. If it did I’m sure I would have installed it over there.

      Hasn’t caused me any issues in tall grass so far. I like how the noise is all behind you makes it a little quieter I think. Yes it has the 2 stage clutch in it

    That tractor has a glow plug on it for cold starts...

    • @TractorGuru
      @TractorGuru  6 років тому

      Jim Ballard Yes it does! But after 50 years all the wiring in the tractor was completly gone and the glow plug didn't work right anymore... I hooked it up once and didn't make any difference in the starting... I got the block heater because it was a cheaper way to make the tractor start when it got below 60°F!

      They don't work very well. There's one on my ferguson 20. Tractor from the same sort of era. And makes no difference really

      @@ferguson20diesel49 same thing for my Dutch 1961 dexta, but over here those heaters are hard to come by as well. we have 220v so ordering one from the USA is no good either. mine always fires right up when the engine is warm, but when she's cold i have to crank for at least 20 seconds... AFTER glowing for 40 seconds which like you said makes no real difference

      Mine also has one. All original and works great. Must be the only one left that does, lol.
