When you hear about humidity, you might imagine a hot sweltering day in the middle of July. Especially if you live here in Columbus, Ohio. However, there’s a lot more to humidity than you think and the humidity levels inside your home play a large part in your overall comfort. In this video, we’ll go over why humidity levels matter, what level they should be at, and how to measure and manage levels inside your home. Very good and interesting explanation of humidity and how it effects us.
I am right in the zone for this hot memphis weather in my house. When my house AC is running, especially at night for comfort I am hitting 49%-53% which is comfortable. anything higher than 53% become uncomfortable for sleeping. I have an Acurite meter for upstairs and downstairs!

In Western Washington where it rains from October to May. The outdoor humidity level is around 90%.
My house hover around 50-55%.
The wood stove and pellet stove do great job dehumidifing the house.

Thanks for your video and information. It's very helpful. I've had a Frigidaire humidifier for the past 6 years and it's been great. Recommended by my physician. I use to get 40 to 55 level, but now I'm getting 30 on my old humidifier and I thought it was not working properly. I ordered a new one and I'm also getting 30 and it shuts after a few minutes. I'm in the process of installing a humidifier in my central heating/AC system. What is the best thermostat/humidistat to run this system? Do I need a humidistat that measures the outside temp and humidity also so as not to over mosturize my home? What is the best thermostate to control my unit?
I would just use the humidistat that comes with the unit. It will measure indoor humidity and adjust accordingly
In the Texas Panhandle during the summer I have seen 7% humidity. 20-30 % is normal. In the winter the gas heater sucks all of the moisture out of the house. Even with a whole house console humidifier, it is unusual to get into the 30% humidity.

20% to 30% humidity in Texas that is Dry. Send some of that dry air here to Florida I hate high humidity. Why must so many places be so humid. I would like the entire globe humidity no higher than 40% 45% with temperature between 78°F - 83°F all year
We have recently moved to a new house but now in summer at an average temperature of 45 degree Celsius every wooden door and furniture in our house have gotten cracks joints losses and intense damage is this due to high humidity or low humidity 😢??

My humidifier setting is from 15 to 45, I should have it set at 30?

30 is the most common we see. I have dry skin so I keep mine on 45 in winter

I believe my H46C is not actively controlling the AC. Twisting the dial I can hear the faint click, which seems to match reading of the humidity device I use. How to check to determine whether H46C is connected and functional ??
It should not be controlling the ac at all, just whether your dehumidifier is on or off
Good morning. Question for you.. why did my thermometer jump from 55 -61 over night. I went to bed . Humidity & Temp was good at a 55 percent range. Got up this morning it was at a 61 percent range. Is this normal ?

What about for those people who need BOTH a Dehumidifier for the Summer AND a Humidifier for the Winter? Are there products that do both humidifying and dehumidifying? Or can a dehumidfiers and humidifiers be installed within the same house?
What if you have a 2 story house with 2 different HVAC units?

You need both, they are separate systems. You can have both on same system. Have multiple systems, need multiple humidifier solutions

We can use room humidifiers for the winter.
I run both at the same time, perfect results every time.

What happened? Humidity level? Sq? Tonnage?
@universem2978 just the overall quality, I have to get it serviced every year. The starter is always dirty and needs cleaned, the temp never reads correctly. The unit says it's on at the thermostat but the furnace isn't running till like 10mins later.. etc.
I have a slightly over 1500 square foot house split level, no basement. My house is humid and smells bad, no matter how I clean it. It's a damp smell so I know I need a dehumidifier. Can I get one to put in the foyer near the bottom of the stairs between the two floors?
Humidity rises, you remove it from the lower level, it will remove it from the above levels
They already replied to you to put the dehumidifier on the lower level and it will also remove it from the lower and upper level.
Why do various humidity gauges show the green zone between 65-72%? They show 50% in the RED which means too low. My house stays 45-50% humidity in winter.

My humidity level at the moment is 77% and it's February. It's been in the mid 70's humidity for days.
I’d get that below 60% if it was me
If it it 77% humidity outside that is one thing, however having 70% humidity in a house can cause mold growth unless you have a lot of air circulation. The chart at 2:40 in this video is a much know and have humidity chart. It recommends between 40 to 60% and 50% humidity is ideal.

I want saw an HVAC technician sell a dehumidifier system to someone here in Colorado… I can’t see ANY point in someone’s life who lives here to need a dehumidifier. What a scam. All these California people flooded into the state and they don’t know crap about it. Kinda funny to watch them ripped off at every turn because they think the high desert of Colorado is California next to the ocean. When I get out of the shower my entire body and hair are dry in under 5 minuets without drying off. But I’m at this video because I run 4 humidifiers year round in my 800 sq ft apartment.. that’s how damn dry it is here.

Californians aren't people. I go to CO ever winter, I get a nose bleed the first hour I step off the plane! I don't know how you live in a cold oven. Lol. I live in FL. I'm here to see if 65% is too Highmore a house. Takes me 3 hours to dry after a shower 😂

I have just installed new Trane 3 ton XR17. Humidity level is between 49 and 56 and sometimes at very hot day 57. I live in Fl.. would this be acceptable?
The humidity level is acceptable if IT IS acceptable to you. An AC can only take so much humidity out of the air. If you want more taken out, consider the Aprilaire E100 whole home dehumidifier

Quick question i have a new house in jacksonville florida and the humidity is in 62-70 % when the humidity is in 70% the smart thermostat send a alert for hi humidity, this is normal??
Need to get that humidity down to 50-55%

Can Windows without low e be a cause of condensation on Windows in a northern climate during cold winter months
A non insulated windows can definitely attract condensation inside

Someone told me that a 3M Low E Type film can be applied directly to the window to make it more energy efficient. Any opinion or suggestions regarding this? My house is a newer construction, approximately 12 years old, windows look great, just not liking the performance and condensation issue. Thanks kindly

I need to install a new central air heating system in my home. I had a heat pump which recently broke down on me. We have a huge high humidity problem in our home. Would we be better off installing a new gas furnace or just buy another new heat pump. We already have a gas fireplace so hooking up to gas in not a problem. Would a gas furnace help our humidity problem? Thank you for any advice you can give me. 🙏
You may need a whole house dehumidifier if the problem is that big. Heat source is. It going to lower humidity more than another. Usually you need to add humidity when heating
I am from Bangladesh. Its hot here. I have an AC in my room. The humidity is 60- 90% regularly in Summer. Right now I have 87% humidity in my area (just checked on google). The question is "Should I need to use a Dehumidifier too?" Note that I always stay in my home in my room. Almost 22-24 hours every day. I am a freelance graphics designer, all I do is sleep, work, eat and repeat. Sometimes go out for a walk and a bit of exercise. I hope the information will help you to give me the answer.
