Your obsevation is right on: The video is live BUT the audio is the studio version. IT WAS designed as the opening song to chant with the crowd. I was there in Japan for the first performance live, and trust me most people around me were in tears. BABYMETAL is a group you need to see the live version. A Blu-ray of this performance WITH THE ACTUAL live audio comes out in June. (I have put in my pre-order) and I hope you will give this another chance viewing the LIVE one.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I assume Amuse is currently releasing MVs with live footage + studio sound, in other words "imperfect live video" on purpose. As far as I know it has surprisingly no copyright strike in any reaction video. Amuse wants to sell "real live video" in a form of Blu-ray/DVD instead. After the two-year long hiatus, this MVs are good tools to remind people of the attractiveness of BABYMETAL and gain new fans, I believe.
As an eyewitness of this show at the venue, I guarantee that the real audio had more power to stir your feelings. The Kami band was playing on the east stage that was not captured in this video.
In addition, repetivieness works at the venue. Yeah! I chanted all through the song. ♪ Oh oh oh o o o ♪. What a happy experience!!

It was performed live. Yes this official video has the studio recording on top of it (i wish they'd stop doing that, the live audio is better anyway). I watched the tv broadcast of this show and it was the live audio, and you can clearly tell the difference. The instruments are more in front in the mix on the live audio than this video you watched. Su also sounds a tad different but is very very close to her studio recording. I was blown away by that in particular, she has become one of the best live singers I have ever heard.

Your grade was lower than I thought, but understandable considering the quality of the video and your explanation. BUT be careful, give BM too many low scores and we'll start recommending emotional BM tear jerkers again. 😉

Good reaction. 'Metal Kingdom' is the opening track on the album (released 24th March) - so of course they used it for the epic theatrical opening number at their concerts at the end of January - their first live shows in nearly 2 years and where this was filmed.
This was the live performance but, as you heard straight away, with the studio audio - the video was released less than a week after the concerts they filmed it at, so it is understandable why it has the studio audio.
We will have to wait for the DVD for the live audio (and having seen a live version you are also right - that is when it works so much better). In an interview since these shows Su and Moa even said that this song needed the live performance to give it life.
The way the stage was set up - there was an east stage where the Kami Band were (you must have missed he quick glimpse of one of the guitarists when Su and Moa raised their "tuning forks") and a west stage where Su started here sitting on her throne (there were 3 thrones). Joining the east and west stages was that huge walkway with the audience either side ... two front rows and both of them really long - so many people could benefit ... and on that was the moving stage (actually 2 moving stages) which travelled along the walkway and also rose up and down and that was where the girls spent most of the time in order that they could be as close to the crowd as possible.

We know they often get actual footage from shows and the put over the studio recordings, many of their official MV are like this (Gimme Chocolate, Shanti Shanti Shanti, PaPaYa, Elevator Girl, DaDaDance, Light and Darkness) :)
This is the opening track of their latest album "The Other One", a concept album, and in this case was also used as a show opener!
Those thrones definitely remind the Iron Throne from A Game of Thrones, but did you notice that mixed with the sowrds there were hands doing the fox sign? I didn't notice the first few times I watched the video 🤣🤣
They have recently broadcasted on Japanese TV most of this show, but the quality it's not the greatest. We will need to wait for probably a few months for the DVD's and BluRays that have already been announced!!

It's about time😃, to me personally the whole theatrics is the main selling point, BM is famous for putting over the top stage props, the soaring triangle for "the one", those gigantic fox heads, big moving platforms, crazy lights, smog, drone camera shots...
Metal Kingdom performance has most of the factor in place, coupled with strong vocal, tight drumming and beautiful chorus, making for a very effective grand opening.
Ms. Su's vocal is getting better and better.
The lack of live orchestra & sound, missing shots of awesome Kami, cheering from audience indeed take some magic out, maybe there will be a live version, who knows.
With that being said, it's quite an enjoyable performance, and a very well put together of production, not much complain at all. Welcome back Babymetal, kitsune up!

    Oh boy, here we go...
Tbh David, I think that half of this album won't be to your liking, unless you're fond of edm and very experimental stuff, as this is the premise of this whole album.
As for the score... Sure. It's a nice song, but nothing that impressive, at least for me.
If and when you get to Metalizm... Can't imagine what will happen.
As other said, this is live footage, with studio music. Unfortunately, the Kami Band was there... But for some reason, Amuse has been hiding them, focusing more on the girls lately.
Maybe in a festival of sorts, without any kind of stage production, we might see the Kami playing like we're used to, and luckily, without masks.
On April's Fool (or Fox Day for us) they've made Momoko Okazaki (the 3rd girl, who never sung) into an official member!
She's now Momometal, and will be singing alongside Moa, both in their concerts and in whatever new album they come up with in the future!!

Nice reaction. Honest as always. Loved the Wizard of Oz clip. As the first song from their new album, Mostly what it did was set a new tone for them. From what their calling their 3.5 album. They're waiting for the next album with Momoko now known as Momometal. to call that their 4th album. Momoko's vocals will be added into the recorded song then. However, from any performance they do from now on will have Momoko singing on it. Yeah, I was pulling for her to be the new member. Definitely the audio was from the album. While most of the video maybe from the first concert they did at the end of January since the covid lockdowns by Babymetal. I think some of that footage is from the full rehearsal for the concert. When you do musical theater the way Babymetal does for their big shows. You must do a full rehearsal. And even with that said. From folks who were there. Babymetal still had some technical problems. Not so bad the show fell apart. just some issues. And with this song imp articular at the start of the show. With that I can understand why they went with the album audio. The second day everyone who went said it sounded much better. Yeah techs. From their most recent shows April 1st and 2nd. Moa said they did full on choreography for the song. The whole majestic return of Queen Su and Queen Moa leader of the royal guard was a one off. Babymetal has done that a lot over the years. Be there or you'll miss it shows. At least one of the royal guards turned out to be another member of Sakura Gakuin. The group Babymetal started in. But one of the more recent members. Sakura Gakuin itself ended shortly after the covid lockdowns. freeing all of the members to do other projects. I've said for a long time now if you're a friend of Su's or Moa's you better be ready. You never know when they may call Apon you for a show or two. Friends in high places as they say. This song is from a concept album. So, get ready. Babymetal is going to take you on another journey. This time through the metalverses. Final note Su's game of throwns style chair is on purpose. But instead of swords it's made of guitars and hands doing the Fox god sign. very cool.

    Let the METAL KINGDOM come!🙌
    -NotACult- 🦊🤘👑
This is why BabyMetal have no match among any other Japanese artists, top notch worldwide. You're not the only finding Game Of Thrones resemblance on this stage setup, it just looks insane, and just like you I'll wait for that show to end with all the spin-offs and binge with the whole series. The ten apostles are holding crosiers with "The Other One" logo which is similar to the infinite symbol "OO" and is the title of upcoming 4th album. The girls are carrying some kind of trident similar to the Spear Of Destiny or Lance Of Longinus from Evangelion anime series, if you know MoaMetal you know you gotta be careful with her. 🔱
Btw the girls agree with you, they said this song wasn't complete until it was performed live, sadly we don't have a clip yet but you can find an official WOWOW livestream around with the live sound of course. And don't worry about the copyright blocked, none of the new singles is getting issues, you can play this without any filters, although careful with the live version, so far only three clips with watermarked logo are around from Monochrome, Divine Attack - Shingeki and Light And Darkness.
Here's some official info about this song:
    METAL KINGDOM (THRONE)
_It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning._
Ending January at Makuhari Messe, they held two big live shows returning to the stage after almost two years. and by far they meet up my expectations with this epic live performance and top notch production.
SuMetal and MoaMetal showing why they're a queen and princess deserving their thrones. Those freaking cinematic drone shots making you feel like you're in a movie.
During April 1st (Fox Day) and 2nd they held another headlining shows at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama, and they performed this song with the new official member during Day 2, say welcome to MomoMetal, she was one of the avengers and now she's finally official, we're all happy for her.🍑❤️
Also they performed with a new BM mirror unit coming from another world of this metalverse, at first i thought they could only play some of those older kawaii metal songs they couldn't because they're not teenagers anymore but they performed Iine! without this new unit so I'm guessing they're just part of the metalverse lore to bring back the youth and kawaii feels they used to have when they were kids and also is a good act to give the OG BM a break during live concerts locally, not now since they're dancing together, but like always OTFGK.
There was some minor issues when SuMetal was singing this live a little bit off, apparently an IEM issue or something but is all good coz we all know it's been a while since performing live and is the premiere of this song, pretty sure next live shows will be better.
You can find the official lyrics pinned in the comments.
Thanks for sharing your honest thought as always David and see you next time.🦊🤘👑

I believe that all of us are aware that this song was made to be the album and live shows opener. So the chanting parts are so prevalent. To the point Su and Moa addressed this topic in a recent interview to PMC Vol. 27 (thanks funnytoss for the translation)::
SU-METAL: "We can rehearse all we want, but songs like “Metal Kingdom” that involve the audience are only complete with the voices and enthusiasm of the audience."
MOAMETAL: "'Metal Kingdom' was really cool after we added the choreography to it. We didn’t perform the choreo for it at Makuhari, and I think its coolness is fully unleashed only when we perform it with choreo."
I really enjoy the song, but as you said, this song is meant to be heard live... and I may add: and being there among the crowd.

I did find it amusing you where so insistent this was an MV (we know it's studio track over concert footage). I guess that's credit to the production department! The stage design for this show was to create a runway so the members could perform close to different sections of the crowd. As you now know, the Kami's where in their own section, which is difficult to see in this video. The song works great as an opener, in fact the choreography we see here, is not what they'll perform at other shows.
The subsequent pair of shows at the PIA Arena MM was the real start of the new BABYMETAL era. It's where Momoko became an official member. A more encompassing arena with the Western Kamis front and centre alongside the band members. The Western Kamis performed as they'll be playing in the 24 date Sabaton support tour in Europe. So yeah, anyone who says BM aren't committed to live musicians really is being disingenuous. For what it's worth, these two shows have been hugely praised. The editor of Headbang magazine in Japan said it was one of the best BM shows he's ever seen.
As for THE OTHER ONE, it's a much more mature album from BM. It contains some of their heaviest tracks to date. But also dips into genres like EDM. Many of the tracks take multiple listens to fully appreciate. It also helps if listened in order, as this is a concept album.

Hi and thanks. The function of Metal Kingdom is to activate the crowd and participate by doing the choirs. The choruses are intentionally repetitive. Traditionally BM started concerts with Babymetal Death (Su-Metal desu, Yuimetal desu, Moametal desu, Babymetal desu), but not the Legend 1997 special concert closing performance with crucifixion. The girls just came out on stage and introduced themselves. Babymetal Death was a simple song to activate the audience. Yui left. Now the concert started with Metal Kingdom. I think Metal Kingdom is superior as a song to Babymetal Death.

About time! You have missed a lot of changes in the Babymetal universe in the past 4 months! This is from the concert they had at the end of January. Yes studio version over the concert. They have this with the live vocals and it is incredible. Unfortunately the Kami band was hidden away in a dark corner during this show. The entire new album is a banger. We also have a official 3rd member joining at the recent show in April. Momoko is now known as Momometal.

Sorry David but your wrong, The KAMI Band is there and this a live performance that happened in March. It's blink and you will miss it but you see one of the guitarists at 12:55
Now don't get me wrong, I hate this fact but the KAMI band is not BABYMETAL so they made the choice to focus on BABYMETAL especially since this is the first concert they had since their hiatus.
BUT you are right, this is studio Audio. They tend to release LIVE video with Studio Audio for their UA-cam releases on their channel, for example the official PAPAYA! and Gimme Chocolate videos. They do this because they want fans to buy the blurays to enjoy the live audio. Thankfully people tend to cut the blurays and upload them to UA-cam, so eventually the live audio will be released. I know that the BABYMETAL Reactor Resource Channel already has the live audio versions of Monochrome and Divine Attack.

Solid review - as always your reasons were well explained so I'm not sure why anyone would get too upset - its not like 7.2 is a "bad" score.
Hadn't realized the audio was the studio track until you pointed it out, but you are right the lack of crowd noise is a clear give away. But the footage is actual live footage of an actual concert. This was the opening number from their return after hiatus in January. Obviously also a track off the new album. The Kami band was kind of off to side at this show, but if you go to the 12:55 mark in your review, you can dimly see one of the guitarists in the background behind the "tuning forks" as Su and Moa bring them together.
Amuse has already announced BlueRay's/DVDs of the concert, so its doubtful they will be uploading a version with the actual live audio - hey, what if someone actually sent you a copy of the DVD when it releases? just kidding.
Besides Babymetal have moved on to much bigger news with the two live shows they just did in Yokohama on April 1 and 2, you now have a new name to learn as longtime Avenger Okazaki Momoko was officially promoted to full member as Momometal.

Ever since Metal Galaxy, was released there has been several, in my opinion, cheap videos from BabyMetal Studio audio mixed over live footage, that cons a surprising amount of people, thinking what they are seeing is what they are hearing and cheap video effects thrown in. Not to my taste for such an internationally respected band to have AMUSE 'knock out' this style of music video.
Totally agree with your comments and review. The live versions of many of the recent releases from BabyMetal, totally save the tracks in my view. I prefer to listen to the live versions of some of their songs but appreciate people bought up in the digital, computer clipped age, may prefer the soulless, studio engineered by robot, same volume though out with out any crescendos or diminuendos, versions better.

Let's be honest David, 7.2 is still a reallly good score! The fact it was so painful to you to give a score that is essentially not bad at all actually speaks volume on how much you are used to giving much more points to BABYMETAL and how much you appreciate their work as a whole.
You've correctly assumed that this is a song meant to be played live. Do you remember BABYMETAL DEATH? I can't imagine you would have scored that song/performance as highly back in the day if all you had to work with what the studio version. I think this applies here, atleast to some degree.
A lot of fans, including me, wait for the high quality live RIPs of BABYMETAL's songs to upload them as local files on Spotify. I have a special playlist with every BABYMETAL song played live where I thought the quality was the best. It's mindblowingly good.

I completely get where you’re coming from and I thought both your review and score were fair: without the live sound and the context of the concert (or the album - let’s not forget it’s part of a concept album so it also exists to play a role there) it is bereft of part of its meaning in the first place, as this was clearly composed to encourage crowd sing-along and participation
Btw, I would recommend that you stay away from their latest album material (which was released at the end of March) until we have proper live versions, because Babymetal studios albums are always produced to the point of sounding inorganic, although to this amateur’s ears at least, the production sounds better on this one than previous albums (they seem to trust Su’s voice a little more at least and don’t take the emotion out of it as much as they used to on previous records 😅)

Herman Li even showed his fans the guitar he took for the recording in a youtube video where he reacted to a Babymetal song. But I agree the Kami Band plays the song better (at least the Japanese one). And the song has to be performed live.
