Here's the Grampa! story... I was exhibiting at SDCC when I look up and see essentially the 5 creators... Fabio, Gabriel, Becky and Vasilis. We chat and they hand me a proposal. I thank them, stuff it in my box, take it back to HQ, and promptly forget about it. IT WAS MESMO DELIVERY! Flash-forward a few months and I read about Mesmo, in I think, Wizard magazine! It reminds me of the proposal. I dig it out. I'm FLOORED. I ready out to Grampa! and that's how we do the distributor thing. If I had been more on my game, I would have published it. Shoulda/Coulda/Woulda. We eventually arrange for a cool signing event at Desert Island. They create a cool serigraph for the event. And then, at the next SDCC, Grampa! and I meet, "do lunch", and sign a contract for an art book. Memories!
You nailed it with the Paul Pope and Geoff Darrow influences in Grampá's work! I also see a lot of Frank Quitely in there. Grampá also did a short Constantine story for Hellblazer #200, worth checking it out.
He's one of my favorite modern cartoonists. His Wolverine story in Strange Tales is one of my favorites of all time. Perfect for Kayfabe since it re-imagines some the 'immortal' X-men characters as death match fighters. X-men/Outlaw/Wrestling = perfection
One of the many things I love about this channel is getting exposed to work I haven't seen before. I'll be looking for more of his work. Thanks as always
One of my fave illustrators at the moment. Mesmo introduced me to this guy and I was hooked. It’s a shame there’s so little out there but I’ve picked up most of his offerings. Thought I’d see if you guys had covered him as I’ve been pouring over his latest Batman work, Batman Gargoyles of Gotham, only one issue out as yet but the noir version is incredible. Hope you guys will cover that one too at some point.
Love to see the fresh stuff--the comix energy where the possibilities of the art drive the narrative. Also: Kayfabe Nation is here for you, Jim--I pre-ordered Hulk Grand D and all variant covers. And I don't even fuck with variants. Anything for you, gents.
I have this and it’s one of the coolest little curios in my collection. Love how he somehow do slow motion in comic book form. Love your selection of books to cover lately. I seem to own and remember well every book you show.
Yes!! Mesmo Delivery is a fantastic comic! I stumbled across the Dark Horse edition at my LCS about a year or two ago and as soon as I opened it it was one of those “Oh FUCK yeah!” moments where you instantly know you found something amazing that you never knew existed. And I have to admit, as I read it I was thinking “man I wonder if Jim and Ed know about this book, cause if they don’t they need to!” Didn’t need the CK stamp of approval to know I had a classic in my hands, but was definitely thirsty for more Grampa after reading it, and was sad to learn there wasn’t any other substantial creator owned work of his out there. What a fun and visually unique comic, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I love this guys stuff because he’s NOT phoning it in! Best damn thing to come out Dark Knight U, creepy cool version of Darkseid! Thanks again, guys! Keep reading and making comix!
Another GREAT video! The face on the "big guy" reminds me a lot of Gabriel Rodriguez, very similar to how he draws Tyler in Locke & Key. Also, was this the first video where Tradd Moore is mentioned? Are we gonna get a Luther Strode or Surfer Black video soon?
Regarding Ed's comment about Brian Azzarello "collaborating" with Frank Miller; it seems that their "partnership" goes back to All Star Batman and Robin: Azzarello is credited on issue 8 (the joker issue) and he gave Frank the idea of painting the old storage room yellow for the Green Lantern fight in issue 9.

The Golden Child was my favorite comic of 2020. I've read it multiple times and it's always for that Grampa art.
In Brazil, he is also known as Grampai (Grampá + Senpai)
Has he had much more stuff published in Brazil?
Awesome! Some of the art reminded me of Enki Bilal, too. Gotta find this gem!
This comic and Screw On Head are my absolute favorites. I never get tired of looking at this stuff. Thanks again for another killer video guys!
Nice timing for that ad!
Esse já é um clássico dos quadrinhos brasileiros
One of the many things I love about this channel is getting exposed to work I haven't seen before. I'll be looking for more of his work. Thanks as always
You guys have introduced me to so many artists that were previously off my radar. It's getting expensive, but I love ya both anyway. ; )

I love this book, I always champion it! Love seeing it covered by you guys!
Grampa's a beast, man! Don't know where I first saw his work but it always stick me whenever I see his work. Love seeing this!
Excellent, new to me, thanks guys.
YESSSS!!!! Love Grampa’s work - literally just tweeted you guy about the DKR: Golden Child book. Highly recommended!
Rafael is amazing! So few fully penciled books. Excited for the vid!
Hahaha that ad placement was perfect
Boys, this guy is really good ... he´s not only a comic book artist, but a Graphic Designer, Movie Director, Illustrator ....
The first time I saw Rafael's art was a cover for DC's Unexpected. Since then I've tried to get all his stuff. Great video guys, love Mesmo Delivery!
i got drunk many years ago and headbutted a rude person. woke up with a scalp full of blood and a tooth stuck in my head.

Best comic channel out there, well. This and ComicTropes… ❤️
Oh yeah baby it’s Kayfabe time
This looks dope, will put it on my list!
Dude, this is one of my favorites, Rafael Grampa can do no wrong
Copped this one at a Borders Books clearance sale a million years ago. A lotta Geof Darrow's Hard Boiled in the gory panels

Reminds me of Paul Pope's work for some reason.

Greetings from Brazil!
Hell yeah! Luckily I picked this up before the inevitable kayfabe effect… gonna have to read it when I get home now. I’ve always loved his artwork
Grampa's work on Batman Black and White and Dark Knight: The Golden Child, are insane!!!
Great video, Guys. I love to see more of Grampa's art.
Cheers!

Awesome! It would be pretty cool if you guys could look into other brazilian cartoonists like: Deodato, Mutarelli and Laerte.
Never heard of that comic but goddam that was good!!!
DAMN! A Brasil classic!!!!
