This planter was a custom, he's just modified more for his needs. I feel he's doing a great job on the welding and cutting. Some people need to stop being so critical, it's a learning process
duffy never fails to amaze me, this guy is a natural born fixer and fabricator; i'll bet there are thousands of guys that would hire this guy in a new york minute.
You're doing great.Like all the challenges you have faced,I'm sure this one will work out ok 👍 Happy St.Patrick's Day to all Farming with Duffy Ag fans.☘🇮🇪🍻🍻☘🚜👍
Don't let them get you down with the negative comments, Retired dairy farmer and welding on rusty cow crap steel was normal daily retune. It always doesn't look pretty but as it holds that is all that matters. My son is a certified welder and welds circles around me but that is what he is paid to do! Love your content and watching you build just using your plans in your head. Not everyone can do that. Keep up the good work Chris.
You may already be planning to do this in which case disregard but, it looks like it would be easier when going back together to take the hinge pin out and weld the them back separately then reassemble. Maybe. Also taking the marker and lift wheel off might make it less awkward to handle the wing. Advice is worth what you pay for it lol. Fun project to watch! Keep it up.
Do the math and narrow the square tube for the entire side now instead of just for the next planter box, so you dont have to cut the row marker off later and narrow it again. Save some time cutting and welding.
Before you weld the flow control valves down might wanna make sure that none of them need to come off cus it looks like once the welded down you want b able to unscrew them cus they'll hit the frame keep up the good work tho man great videos
Some hope of Craig showing us how it's done, because he probably doesn't know how to weld himself, a troll bluffer that talks the talk, but that's about it.
Chris, use a precision bandsaw or something to get square cuts so it goes together and lines up right good luck it takes confidence to do this conversion
Great job loved it good wrenching well get it nice job it is fab made so we are enhancing it and building it better as always thank you for sharing and your time was really great never miss a video thank you 😊.
Duffy there are several 8 row 30" Jd planters for sale online at Sullivan Auctioneers "Day 1 Ring 1" closing in 2 days in Illinois. So far less than $100
Man oh man this planter is looking a lot different. Big difference from when i saw it for that split second going down the highway. Looking good. what is decal by the hinge you were talking about? Is that to tell you what gear for certain seed spacing
Hope you measured how far the center of transmission was from the frame to get everything align if it's not square it will cause a bind and plant uneven looks good so far alot of work
Duffy. Spiker farms in wheeler illinois has a JD7000 foldable for sale. Ask for some more pictures so that you get a idea where to fit the wheels and everything
Howdy my Friend, I am in the middle of ordering a hat and T-shirt, do you have a discount code I can use Please ?? Thank you, stay calm and farm on, Peace
It's probably ly too late now, but would it have been possible or practical to have 3 of the planters on each side of the center section, then the last planter and wheel on the fold out sections? Just thinking that may have saved the trouble of moving the fold joint? Fascinating to watch you make this happen, though!
Yea it's a bit of a bitch having to chop it back a bit but it's nothing too technical. The most important part will be to re mount those gears in the right place..... I wouldn't worry too much about the welding, those hinge sections are pretty solid and take plenty of weld. It's easy to tidy it up afterwards with an angle grinder and grinding disc. It will be grand .
Also change the clutch drive and all chains and check all the sprockets and replace if nessary, seems like it would be easier to not touch the folding part but just cut the 7x7 main frame and add a section in or take out a section ,you can sleeve it on the inside for strength
Just asking but did you need to cut the outside wind off ?! Could you not have just taken the pivot pin out ?! Again keep up the good work !!! Love the videos
@@tractorboy31 no instead of cutting the whole pivot out pull the main pin out an just cut the half of the pivot thats on the main frame but its all about tit for tat in the end
Don't worry everyone knows a Craig. He could even in the Department of Agriculture as it seems that it doesn't matter what country those kind of departments always employ Craigs
@@ryecarlson7867 I have places that I physically can't fit a 6 row. So this was my best option. I bought it on auction tho with it saying it was a 30 inch. I'm lucky it was previously customized made it not that bad

That transmission the hard part linking up those driveshafts and weld it back on. Thanks goodly love.
Hello its coming. Have a good day.
Great stuff Chris, it’s coming along great. For a one man show

That there Plasma cutter is a game changer, gotta get me one of those.

Great video it's a learning process. And Craig if you're a great welder you should make a guest appearance on Duffy ag and show them how it's done. .
Some hope of Craig showing us how it's done, because he probably doesn't know how to weld himself, a troll bluffer that talks the talk, but that's about it.
Looks good so far, I know you'll get er done. Never had this problem with our 2 row 38 inch IH planter that could be used for checking corn
Looking good Chris!
Chris, use a precision bandsaw or something to get square cuts so it goes together and lines up right good luck it takes confidence to do this conversion
Even a Harbor Freight would work
Without actually looking at it I might have done it slightly different. Confident you’ll make it work
Plowing right along 👍
Awesome , sure and steady will get it done one bit at a time just think it through like your doing .

Nice Duffy you got this.

As Andy Hourigan says, a grinder and paint will make you the welder you ain’t! Just keep plugging along! The internet is full of experts!
Man oh man this planter is looking a lot different. Big difference from when i saw it for that split second going down the highway. Looking good. what is decal by the hinge you were talking about? Is that to tell you what gear for certain seed spacing
Will you need to adjust the marker arms on the planter?
Hope you measured how far the center of transmission was from the frame to get everything align if it's not square it will cause a bind and plant uneven looks good so far alot of work

hang the row unit on before cutting off the hinge just to see how it looks-just wondering if you need to cut off that hinge off the main frame
If your moving all of the row units over are you able to add some more to the planter
Howdy my Friend, I am in the middle of ordering a hat and T-shirt, do you have a discount code I can use Please ??
Thank you, stay calm and farm on, Peace
Well look at the bright side it will put corn in the ground a lot faster than the old unit and as you know Chris time is money
It's probably ly too late now, but would it have been possible or practical to have 3 of the planters on each side of the center section, then the last planter and wheel on the fold out sections? Will you shorten the wings to get closer to fences, field perimeters
When will you get more vest in?

As far into as you are I would change all the drive shaft bearings
Absolute some maybe already be worn out
Also change the clutch drive and all chains and check all the sprockets and replace if nessary, seems like it would be easier to not touch the folding part but just cut the 7x7 main frame and add a section in or take out a section ,you can sleeve it on the inside for strength
Lots of fkn around for everything to be lined up perfectly when you're done...I'll say it now I forsee lots of breakdowns with this planter lol
Just asking but did you need to cut the outside wind off ?! Could you not have just taken the pivot pin out ?! Again keep up the good work !!! Love the videos
If he left the pivot in place the pivot would be right in the middle of the third row unit. I think that is what your asking about
@@tractorboy31 no instead of cutting the whole pivot out pull the main pin out an just cut the half of the pivot thats on the main frame but its all about tit for tat in the end
I agree.
Cut it off the main frame and shorten the main frame.
Then take the market off the end and cut what you need to on the wing frame
don't forget to shorten the markers
Yeah... zip it Craig! 😂
Don't worry everyone knows a Craig. He could even in the Department of Agriculture as it seems that it doesn't matter what country those kind of departments always employ Craigs
It might have been easier to just add 2 rows if the lay out would work not sure if it would just trying to think out of the box for future me
Is there enough tool bar to make it a 10 or 12 row planter
Not enough toolbar. About a foot short for 10 row units to space out right.
@@Dairyland-Dairyman just a thought wasn't sure thanks for the info
I ain’t gonna lie, this project is making me nervous now lol.
You and me both
Cut your tool bars with cutting wheels for true clean cuts and your ugly welds have a better chance of holding
Are you a professional welder?? If not shut up. Duffy learnt welding himself
@@willianvos3521 yes why you need something welded??
My father learnt welding mostly by himself. And there is not one weld that broke so far
That are welds from metal to metal. Stainless to metal, stainless to stainless even cast iron gears he welded himself

My god whuyyyyyyyyyyyy in so many ways. The used market on the east coast must be soooo bad
8 row 30 inch plant front fold. Find me one that they don't want 10k for. Has to fold up to 4 rows. You must be new to the videos

Way not just move cut in section on the hinge and move it in15 or so ,not cut both side off hinge ,can’t tell from here on room
The transmission sits on the frame there so need space for thst to line up
@@DuffyAgstraight 4and6 row transmission are in the center,I forgot you have two with a shutoff clutch, good luck
What are you doing selling the shit and buying another one and check that it matches your measurements.
Because I'm currently half thr price of any 8 row front fold 30 inch planter. With some neat stuff on it
