We struggled defensively this year as well. We slowly improved on our block rec and reaction as the year went on but were never able to really stuff anyone. Even when we would read it correctly and fit it correctly, that back would still carry our LB for a 4 yard gain. It made for a long season.

Thanks for all you do to help those of us coaching the game, Coach. I've very much enjoyed and benefited from the information you've provided to us. I agree wholeheartedly with the four musts you mentioned, but would add one more... pursuit. Consistent, relentless pursuit, getting 11 hats to the ball on every play is also critical to playing good defense. Keep up the great work and best of luck to you in your career!

Good video coach. Those words rang so true. I took over a bad football program in the Metro Atlanta area. I knew about the IQ of the kids, and I knew that I'd have to develop a staff. What I didn't know is that the administrators wouldn't hire me any football coaches (ones that I knew could help). You haven't lived until you've gone through an off-season at a 6A football program with one coach. Eventually I talked a couple of teachers into joining. We actually made significant strides defensively from the previous regimes, but it was a whole lot of football not being taught. We just couldn't rep recognition and block destruction enough due to the lack of staff. I've heard it said before, bad programs are bad for a reason and mostly, it's not the kids. Last thing, coach mac, I used to laugh when I heard you talking about calling both sides of the ball. I had no one willing to step up and call the Defense, so most of the season, I did both. It was interesting to say the least. Certainly learned a lot and will use that information should I decide to return to the head coaching ranks in the future. I had devised a plan for me and less than a full staff (say, 4 coaches instead of the 9 that I had supplements for). I never thought that I'd need a plan for just two coaches..... Lesson learned. Be prepared for the worst case scenario, just in case. Good luck to any of you heading into the playoffs.

Coach Mac, I've relocated back home to south Georgia (Camden County) just across the border from you. Shoot me an email at Dale@AdvancedProLearning.com. Once the season's done, I'd love to come talk ball with you for a bit.

Hey Coach Mac, I’m a college student pursuing a coaching degree. I have been watching your videos and absorbing every bit of info I can receive. Simply where do you think the best way for me to start is, is there a “starting point” to learning these schematics or do I just go after it? Thanks coach

i’m interested into being a defensive coordinator when i’m older because i’m a Linebacker/DL. Do you think a new formation could work in the pass heavy offense in the NFL?

      Yes

Coach Mac i’ve been thinking of some formations that would work, some DB heavy formations and one that relys on big and fast DL and LB
