  • In this video we'll compare two 16-inch stand fans from the same manufacturer.
    One is a standard AC stand fan, while the other is a DC "inverter" stand fan.
    Both appear to move pretty much the same amount of air, but the inverter stand fan consumes significantly less power.
    The inverter fan has a higher upfront cost.

    Really great to know you are still into gadgets 😲, would love to have an in depth comparison of each product. Durability and costumer care services can also be a big factor to be included in this products if you considered long term usage since this info is not readily available to many buyers.

    This is a first to me, I would love to see a follow up video about this. On a side note, I have a fuzzy memory about which current should be the standard (AC or DC). afaik the inventor of the current that won the bid did all the dirty tricks so the vote would favor on him. By the way, does your wattmeter come with an app?

    Been using hybrid DC/AC fans for couple of years now. They aren't called inverter fans. They are just AC/DC fans so you can run them from an outlet from the wall with a dc adaptor or directly from a 12 volt battery. They are the same price as conventional AC fans on Lazada. Much better energy consumption and can be run from a battery during the ubiquitous brownouts here. The ones I use consume 15 watts on lowest setting and will run all night easily on a fully charged 20 amp battery. They have reduced air flow compared to AC fans but it's not that much of a problem if you just move it closer to you. It does the job of keeping you cool with lower electricity bill when there is electricity to run it.

      They're advertized as inverter fans.
      Although personally I prefer to call them DC fans.
      As you saw in the video, the "inverter" fan and standard AC fan from the same manufacturer are moving the same amount of air.
      But there are many different fans out there 👍

    • @nigelcarter9551
      @nigelcarter9551 Місяць тому

      @@GadgetAddict Yeah, the ones I use aren't advertized as inverter anything. They are just listed as AC/DC fans meaning you can run them from 220 volts with a dc adaptor. The only thing that makes them more expensive is you have to spend php 150 to buy a dc adaptor. They only come with a 12 volt battery lead to clip on a battery. The price of the fan is the same as normal AC fans.

      @@nigelcarter9551"Inverter fans" run on brushless DC motors and have built-in AC to DC Inverters. Obviously DC only fans that you describe require an AC to DC power supply, however they don't necessarily have modern brushless, motors, which is how the power saving is made.

    Question is. The price difference. How much more expensive is the inverter fan? And will you still be able to save that amount in the lifespan of the motor. I noticed that even with casual use of 8-12 hrs a day the motor dies out around 3-4 years.

      The inverter fan cost me P1500 more than the AC fan.
      Based on the calculations in this video, it would take ~18 months of use, to cover the difference in purchase price.
      The inverter fan I bought includes a 5 year warranty for the motor.

    Higher cost of Fan, so calculate as following: Price to buy Inverter Fan compared to AC Fan, Lifespan of the Fan (s), how many Pesos it saves compared to AC Fan monthly and finally how many months I need to use Inverter Fan until it starts to make savings in my electricity bill. Data is data 🤣

    there's also the DIY route kung maykilal kang electrician at given na bawi na nagastos mo sa AC fan. Instead of buying a new DC fan just have it converted to DC. Ang dami ng convertion kit sa lazada at shopee

      If you're like me, you might want to consider DSP on Shopee, since they have affordable DC stand fans. But of course you have to set your expectations on the quality of materials.

    Is there a gadget that can switch between an AC and Electric fan via timer? For example, an AC is set to operate between 7AM to 10PM then Electric fan between 10PM and 7AM. This setup is for the bedroom.

      @@arttheseven5526 So this setup is dependent on the AC model since not all ACs have timer function? Also if the gadget has a clock function there won't be a need to setup the timer everyday.

    What's an inverted fan ? How is it different from a regular electric fan ?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  Місяць тому +1

      Basically it's using a DC motor instead of an AC motor.
      One of the big selling points is that the DC motor will consume less energy while moving the same amount of air.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  Місяць тому +1

      The fans generally come with an AC/DC brick, if not built internally.
      Most of the gadgets we use are doing the same thing, taking AC from the wall and converting it to DC, often stepping it down to a much lower voltage.
