When rugged gunslinger John Gant (Western legend Audie Murphy, Destry, Bullet for a Badman) rides into a small town people soon start to talk. Whilst his reputation as a gun-for-hire is considerable, the concerned townsfolk speculate the score and count down the moments before the bullets begin to fly.
But Gant is a cool customer, waiting for the right time to assert his own special kind of justice, picking his moment to deliver his message and leave his mark. Sharing his thoughts with local Luke Canfield (Charles Drake, Winchester '73), the two men develop a kinship and understanding of one another destined to confound the rest of the suspicious crowd.
When paranoia and desperation reach boiling point and vigilante justice rears its head, Gant will need all of his six-shooter skills and sharp wits to survive the situation.
A tense and deep cutting Western from respected filmmaker Jack Arnold (It Came from Outer Space, Creature From The Black Lagoon), No Name on the Bullet also features Joan Evans, Warren Stevens, R.G Armstrong Whit Bissell and Edgar Stehli.
A pure masterpiece now available on Bluray. A must.
It's really a shame that this brief 2 minutes is only a bit of a really good psychological drama. So far it's my favorite Audie Murphy film, and I've seen several. And Murphy does a wonderful job in the character. I'm so glad I have the dvd. I think I'll have to watch the entire movie again, now that this bit has whet my whistle.

Most definitely one of my favorites I forgot about, for some reason, I checked out the Grit channel & found this movie and I ordered the DVD for camping 🏕 very good acting and story
Always thought that this film was one of Murphy's best yet he played against type (mostly a good guy) to be a gunfighter assassin who lured his victims into gunfights and got paid for it. He was also good in the western The Unforgiven in which he played an Indian hating rancher. It was however, a supporting role for him.
As an old Western fan,I agree with everything that you said.
Mr Murphy's line delivery and acting skills were chilling even to an old man like me.

One of the best western movies ever. A sort of demon gunslinger (the dog that barks furiously at him in the first scene) almost immortal arrives in a village to eliminate an indefinite culprit and this is enough to spread death among people with a guilty conscience.
I was trying to find the cast of players, same ol bad guys, just younger...
